Courtney Cox Regrets Being Skinny

Courtney Cox is a bit worried about her past very thin appearance on some episodes of “Friends” and in the “Scream” movies. Why? Well, apparently she was the target of ED rumors and speculations:

Courteney Cox regrets her skinny appearance on hit show Friends, because it prompted fears she was suffering from an eating disorder.

The Scream star denies she ever suffered from anorexia but worries her slight appearance on certain episodes of the US sitcom set a bad example to the show’s millions of young fans.

She says, “When I was on Friends, there was a period when I was really thin and I thought I looked great - but in retrospect, it was not so good. I did not have anorexia but they kept writing about it. It’s bad for kids across America to think that people on the show they look up to have something like that. It was tough.”

I do remember thinking she was too thin in the “Scream” movies, but never really thought she had any ED’s. I guess now we can all set our minds to rest… (Ever wonder why celebrities suddenly “come out” and make statements seemingly out of the blue like this? One word: publicity).

she has a new show and it’s doing badly - coming out with this statement at a time when there is so much debate and focus on skinny celebs is anything but random.

However, at least she admits that she was too thin, there was a time during friends when she got so super skinny she looked like gollum or something, not good!

personally….people may say it is for attention, i dont know…i really think it was a sweet thing for her to say that, that she cares about her younger fans and stuff like that, i admire that she said that.

Honestly, now, why do we have to be so cynical? Yes, celebrities’ wellbeing is based on publicity, and so they often focus their lives on drawing attention.

Still, isn’t it possible that Courtney actually felt bad about her excessive thinness? If you look at some of the episodes of “Friends”, it’s easy to tell she was underweight much of the time. Maybe she truly wanted to apologize for setting that kind of body ideal for the younger generation.

Anyway, it’s not as if even if this new show, “Dirt”, fails (which it looks to be doing), Courtney will be begging on the streets. She and her husband have plenty of money to sit and publicity MAY not be the first of their concerns.

I’m not saying that she doesn’t want attention, I’m just putting that out there.

Yeah, I defineltly don’t think we really have a right to automatically judge her motives where purely for publicity sake. She may have done it because she might actually care…

Um, I always thought she was public about having an ED. I mean wasn’t it very widely reported that one of the reasons it took her so long to conceive was that her weight was so long her menstral cycle was screwed up?

yeah, she was TINY on Friends. That Halloween Episode hen she’s in the Catsuit?

    Damn….

I think this is a responsible statement.

I agree with Jacknasty….I seem to also recall her talking about her use of laxatives.

Well, I thought there was a period in “Friends” when she was overly skinny. She had a boney chest and arms, etc. She was almost painful to look at. When someone looks like that, I am watchful when my weight is too low. I reduce my exercise.

I don’t recall her ever saying anything to give the impression of having an eating disorder. she was, on the other hand, VERY vocal about being 5′5″ and 110 and at a ‘perfect weight’ for herself. that’s okay — to each his own, eh? some people do prefer to be hungry and thin and that’s ok; 5′5″ and 110 is very thing, but it’s not NECESSARILY e.d. territory

whatever. yea, right. she is so full of it.

she’d rather be thin than too fat or even average weight.

Oh sure, she may actually care, but you can’t deny that her timing is convenient.

are every celebrities going to apologize because they are/were too thin??

    boring time inhead

If this is such a big deal, then gain some weight.

If not, shut the fuck up.

    It’s that simple.

if she apologises for being thin she should also apologise for becoming a cr*p actor and shoving her face down our necks all the time

    Umm ok. randomly retarded courtney!

I thought she looked pretty damn good on friends.

As a person, her face is gorgeous, but she has very little sex appeal

I thought there were a few episodes (the ones where she got together with Chandler) where she looked too skinny. And so pale. Not nice. But other than that, she is just slim built. And I think she looks very good.

    I agree with Miss M.

I got out my DVD’s of Friends and there is a time when she was much too thin. Okay, I’m a loser and loved Friends and I don’t ever remember her saying she had an eating disorder. It was suuggested by all the magazines, but Courtney denied it. In fact, there was a time when Courtney and Jennifer were accused of having ed’s. I was in my anorexia full force then and I used to think I’d kill to be as skinny as Courtney.

I think it was a nice thing for her to say, regardless of her motives. Good for her.

Courtney made this statement because she was ask what she thought of the skinny celebrities?

  24. By Fray on Jan 31, 2007 | Reply

If she regrets being skinny, then why is she still so skinny? I don’t believe it for a second. Besides, why should anyone regret being skinny (especially in Hollywood)?

  25. By oh please on Feb 1, 2007 | Reply

She’s just trying to win brownie points…trying to show American women how “real” she is. (Hello, Tyra Banks!) She’s just like those skinny actresses who have “naturally fast metabolisms” and “loves to eat!”

Of course, Courtney is just naturally slender and can’t help her size! boo hoo hoo *rolls eyes*

SkinnyBee, you are not a loser. I loved Friends too. And yep, I got all dvds and still watch it. It cheers me up! There you go, I admitted it ;-)

Who’s that guy in the background? For some reason he reminds me of Bill Gates.

There were rumours abounding about her having an ED back in the day. The tabs went on and on (and on!) about it. But then Jen did that Zone/Atkins diet and lost weight and it kind of took the heat off - but yes, it was speculated upon ad nauseum.

I think it was good that Courtney said this, but seriously who doesn’t have some form of ED? I mean being obsessed with food in any way is an ED - we just call it anorexia, bulimia or fat lol
