Brenda, what planet are you on? THe whole purpose of gyms is that people get in shape… “they don’t allow underweight or overweight people on their machines”??
wtf?
if your underwieght or overwieght (according to your own BMI as everyone is different) in the UK a gym wont take you on, you have to gain a bit or lose a bit more because if you train unsupervised and any heart problem ensuing from that the gym can be sued
i dont know how it works in the US
i also mean if your quite overwieght or underwieght, just being below or above artent usually problems
people have to have health checks before joining gyms, and i thought thesame would apply to the US and to me nicole looks quite underwieght
and by machines i meant workig out machines i.e.treadmills etc
She’s boring. Period. There’s just nothing new to see in here, it seems to me that Nicole Richie is nothing but that so-called ultimate skinny girl, and it got old. If she ever gets ACTIVE in the industry, for a change, than what the heck.
Oh god, Brenda, there may be a reason why you were having trouble posting a comment originally. Because what you say sounds insane, and also because your writing reads like a two-year-old wrote it. Come on!

Wow, it’s 7.20am?? It’s 12.20am here in New Zealand. (yes- we do have the internet in New Zealand if anyone was wondering.. it sounds silly but people have been known to think that we have mud houses and wear grass skirts and have sheep covering nearly all of the land) sorry for the very off topic tangent
The waiver issue with gyms is interesting. Also, people have to be really careful about working out after they have been at a very low weight and put on even a small amount of weight.. I think that is partly what contributed to Karen Carpenter’s fatal heart attack (according to some tv documentary I watched about the her.. yeah, I was bored that night)
hmm.. she does look better. her arms definitely look better but you can’t really tell elsewhere.
but she’s back at the gym? what, does she really dislike the small amount of weight she’s put on? or maybe she’s just trying to build up some muscle or something? i hope it’s the latter.
“D”, you can’t tell “Natalie” who she thinks is or is not perfect. If she thinks Nicole Ritchie looks perfect, then that’s her opinion and she’s entitled to it. I happened to agree with her; Nicole Ritchie looks fantastic to me. You can’t tell me I’m “wrong” either. If you disagree, then that’s YOUR opinion.
I agree with D, being super thin is not really the norm. Why, because Norm is another word for majority, and the majority does not look like Nicole Richie. I do think she looks good, but I am one of those people who likes thin women. I prefer Victoria beckham as she is thin with boobs, and I absoultley feel a women needs some boobs! Anyway, I don’t think D meant anything offensive. Its just that by norm standards Nicole is not perfect…yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so we are all entitled to think she is perfect, attractive, or whatever. But by a norm standards, a women should look like well…..bigger then a 12 year old boy.
I like Nicoles Body, because being thin makes clothes shopping a lot easier…you just look better in most things, however, her lack of boobs ect….She may be thin, but she has no boobs or ass, and and wherefore she has no sex appeal.
Oh and Brenda in the US anyone can work out. Thank goodness!! Everyone needs excercise. My gym does come up to people ( they have to me at least), when people are on the thin side, and ask them why they work out so “intently” but they can’t tell you not to do it. I just wear really really baggy clothes to the gym now so people leave me alone.
you guys are telling me in the US nobody checks people before joining a gym

no doubt people with issues can just carry on, i thought it was a given

Sorry, Brenda, I shouldn’t have made the crack about you sounding two years old. It’s just that, well, your writing needs a workout. )
You do have a point about being able to work out at the gym, unchecked. Unfortunately there are no rules or regulations governing access to a gym. People are advised to check with their physicians before undertaking an exercise program, but who knows how many actually do. I do know that if I had any sort of health problem, I would check with a doctor first because I wouldn’t want to harm myself. But a lot of people aren’t that vigilant.
As far as Nicole Richie working out, well, I take no issue with that. Everyone, regardless of weight, should work out, if only for the benefits other than those having to do with the number on the scale. The emotional and mental benefits are incredible, too.
erin-lucky you im hoping to become a kiwi soon!!

If this is true, I am SOOOOOO glad I don’t live in the UK (even though I loved it there when I visited). I am glad this is not the case here. I’ve been small all of my life even before my ED and I wouldn’t want anyone telling me that I couldn’t workout b/c my BMI, weight, size didn’t meet their standards despite the fact I was perfectly healthy.
Brenda G, first of all, let’s agree that Nicole Richie is working out in America not the UK.
Second, are you saying that it’s the underweight people who want to build muscle and the overweight people who want to lose fat cannot join the gym?
Where I’m from (Canada), everybody must do a fitness test before joining the gym and discuss weight goals. And then they’re on their own unless they request a personal trainer.
Okay… so how are people who are over weight supposed to lose weight and get in shape if they’re not allowed in gyms? lol This is absolutely ridiculous, I’ve never heard of anything like this.
I’ve seen people who are obese at my gym, and that’s great, they have every right to be there, just as much as the super fit, or even the super thin, and everyone in between…. to each their own. I think it’s despicable that someone could be turned away at a door because they’re too fat, or too skinny.
A test before working out?
People work out for different reasons, and if it makes her feel good, then let her be. I think she’s courageous despite all the criticism she gets from others. It doesn’t help to have people constantly talking about the way you should or shouldn’t look, so I don’t blame her.
I don’t think such a thing should be required, but some might think otherwise if someone has a problem. Case in point, when I was struggling with eating issues and spent half the day in the gym even though I was pretty thin. Only got a few stares, but there’s not much people can do.. You can only assume/do so much before you cross the line.
Christine, I know it’s not a necessity to have a fitness test. What I meant to say is that it would be the smallest form of supervision with the gym members (if any).
wtf? are you ppl crazy? she has no boobs, a weird scrawny body with lumpy arms, her face is aged like a motherfckr, the hair’s barely alive there… uhh and you think she looks good? jezuz, wept! seriously, she looks like a lawn gnome. what a freak.
kittah the severly overwieght people can join the gym, they just arent allowed onto the machines they do stuff like swimming, simple aerobics classes etc
till their wieght is at a level where it is safe to exercise on the machines
equally the really thin being quite under their BMI have to gain wieght as not to strain their hearts, and those with eating disoders tend to have body dismorphia, so they arent encouraged to exercise at all as they need the wieght instead they would refer the person to a nutritionist
thats how my gym works any way
but if nicole is getting psychological help as well as as nutritional and physical help then under such circumstances surely working out at the gym and watching ones own body become stronger and toned is a positive thing for a recovering e.d person?!
i know from my own personal experience that once i joined the gym i started to see my body in a much less negative way and i actually didnt have such han ups with eating as i knew i was a burning it off, and b, fuling myself to become stronger.naybe it the same for her.
Just because she needs to gain weight, it doesn’t mean that she should not exercise. EVERYONE needs exercise. She just needs to take in enough calories to compensate for it.
Brenda G, I agree that the morbidly obese should not be allowed to certain machines (i.e. ones that have a limit to 300lbs or so) but at the same time, anyone who is recovering from an ed should be encouraged to use the gym as they need to change their negative outlook on their body and start building a healthy relationship with food (i.e. eat healthy and exercise as opposed to starving and using various drugs).
hey SG your site got quoted on the UK TIMES
as a website where women obses over the wieght of the famous
well done, getting into the times, this site must be big
I agree that she does look good. But a lawn gnome??? That’s so ridiculous!
Her body is just naturally thin - - - and YES she does look good - - for her, anyway.
I think we should all just embrace the body that God gave us, and work with it instead of being so negative about it. Thats the only way we’ll ever enjoy having it.
She still looks really really skinny, but with some muscle. She’s gaining weight the healthy way though. So that’s good. I was scared she was going to go back into her fast food and bad fatty food all the time diet and get unhealthy and fat again. She should definitely stick with the gym and building up her muscles.
Brenda, the only regulation they have here is that people can only sign up for 30 minutes at a time on cardio, but some people get around it by signing up for the same machine a bunch of times in a row and staying on for 2 hours.
And as for overweight people, I think some of the cardio machines have a weight limit but I don’t know what it is.
Okay… so how are people who are over weight supposed to lose weight and get in shape if they’re not allowed in gyms? Alix I agree with you! I was just about to say the same thing!
Nicole goes to my gym, ‘gym on nemo’ on nemo street in west hollywood … she actually looks great in person … she’s so petite in person & really doesn’t look as skinny as she does in pictures … she actually looks rlly healthy.
I think Nicole could use more weight on her, but she appears to be working on it. The definition in her arms says that. As far as the great gym debate goes, the UK controls that. No point in fighting about it.
Whoever works out with all that sh t jewelry on her arms is seriously lame…she obviously isn’t that athletic…you can’t exactly run a whole lot on a treadmill with crap bracelets flinging around.
i’m enjoying the discussion on gyms. i joined a uk gym just for the summer last year (it was boring and i only went 4 times). it was just after exam period so my bmi was a bit on the low side (about 17.5) and i didn’t have any problem joining. i can’t believe in america they don’t take any measurements from you. i had my weight, bmi, percentage body fat etc taken and an exercise plan created so that i wouldn’t loose anymore weight and could hopefully put some weight on.
she still looks too thin, but she looks better than she has done, her arms looks quite good
she is looking alot better here! im hoping that she is trying to bulk up, its a good idea to bulk up with excercise because that way you can still control your weight, get to a healthy weight with no unsightly flabby bits, but be healthy too. its probably the only way she feels comfortable puuttin weight on at the moment!
if, of course, that is the reason she is at the gym! I hope so!
Brenda G is talking crap! I’ve lived in Scotland all my life and because of moving around a lot I’ve joined around 6 different gyms so far - in not one of them have I been weighed, asked my BMI or anything else. They ask if you want a program drawn up or if you have any medical conditions and thats that.
Brenda’s comments are downright daft - like loads of other people have said everyone has the right to work out - whether they’re tiny or whether they’re huge. We all need exercise.
Oh and I think Nicole looks fantastic, I love her skinny!
and she goes to the gym why again? what the hell , this girl needs help , she is burnin off the 3 calories she actually consumes…i hope america is happy about what it is making women do to themselves
She looks GREAT! She could still gain a few but she’s no longer scary skinny… I want her body now (haha). And look, she actually has *gasp* body fat!!!!
Brenda G — I wish they would keep extremely underweight people from working out here. There is an anorexic girl who goes nuts working out at my gym. I’m scared I am going to watch her drop dead on one of the machines. I asked one of the trainers about her and they said they have many people complain and ask the gym to step in, unfortunately they can’t. Also, anorexics neither burn fat nor build muscle when working out, rather their bodies burns muscle and tissue in an effort to preserve any small amounts of body fat they have. Not so good.
A cording to the fitness thing: I live in Denmark, and there is no such ting, as being weighed and stof like that in fitness centers. I am s thin girl, and I would be very anojed(?) if other people should have to weigh me.
There was too much to read, but anyway.. I have worked in over 4 gyms and only half did waivers. Alos the gym I workout at did no such thing or any checks and I am naturally underwieght according to the BMI. I am just slim build like Nicole. If Nicole hadnt been fat would be saying anything? She looks fine for her petite size.. healthier than before!
Ok so her arms look a bit bigger in this picture, but the rest of her body is still tiny as hell.
Its the light in the picture and the slobby clothes that make her look healthier, not her weight gain.
Although she is too thin, I think she is one of the prettiest hollywood women and she has the best style.
So I love her anyway
Although she is very skinny, she looks a lot better then she did last year. It must be hard always in the publics eye, always being watched and people putting you down for the way you look. Yeah she may have a lot of money but she has very little privacy. Here is a good example of how tactless people can be.
Omg if you go back to the days before Mcdonalds and KFC, you will find all people had a body like that. Fat people were unheard of in those days simply because thin is how the human body SHOULD be without all the burgers and crap fat people stuff down themselves daily. Ask your grandparents how often they saw a fat person when they were teenagers…NEVER. They ate a normal diet and were a NORMAL size back then. Thin is NORMAL. People just forget that cos most of the population is overweight now. Get off your fat bums, stop eating so much and exercise instead of posting jealous comments about people who actually HAVE some willpower.
THANKS K
I think she is gorgeous. I agree. People needs to stop bashing people who are trying to feel better about themselves and not allow themselves to be overweight like most Americans are. If we all would realize that we’re not as healthy as we should be then America wouldnt be known as the fattest continent. I do wish i look like her. She has lost a lot of weight since the first simple life. She looks better than ever. More people should be like her. Her face is gorgeous. So if you’re complaining about how you think your legs are fat, DONT EAT MCDONALDS IDIOTS. Diet and exercise and you’ll be much happier.
she looks truly amazing here!!!!! why cant people understand that size 0 rules and that is how its gonna stay!!!! nicole richie is one of the prettist and well dressed stars in the world if not the most!!!! fat people need to go in caves to eat themselves then return and be in the size 0 crew!!! haha

I dunno. I think she looks great, too. Her arm in the first shot definitely shows a bit of definition and more “bulk” than we’ve seen in the past.
In the second shot, though, in profile, she bears an uncanny resemblance to one of the Olsens.

oh yea, Nicole Richie looks great. She looks amazing at this weight and she should maintain it.
By Christine on Apr 29, 2007 | Reply
D, I’m not freaking, so you don’t need to tell me to “chill”. I’m simply pointing out that you can’t tell someone what to think. Period.
By Kittah on Apr 29, 2007 | Reply

By Christine on Apr 29, 2007 | Reply
Kittah, I’m from Canada too, and I’ve joined gyms without getting a fitness test. I don’t think it’s a necessity to have one.
By Shell on Apr 29, 2007 | Reply
A test before working out?
People work out for different reasons, and if it makes her feel good, then let her be. I think she’s courageous despite all the criticism she gets from others. It doesn’t help to have people constantly talking about the way you should or shouldn’t look, so I don’t blame her.
I don’t think such a thing should be required, but some might think otherwise if someone has a problem. Case in point, when I was struggling with eating issues and spent half the day in the gym even though I was pretty thin. Only got a few stares, but there’s not much people can do.. You can only assume/do so much before you cross the line.
By reeree on Apr 29, 2007 | Reply
I bet those are supposed to be tight stretch pants she’s wearing. Sad.
By Kittah on Apr 29, 2007 | Reply
Christine, I know it’s not a necessity to have a fitness test. What I meant to say is that it would be the smallest form of supervision with the gym members (if any).
By Milky on Apr 29, 2007 | Reply
wtf? are you ppl crazy?
she has no boobs, a weird scrawny body with lumpy arms, her face is aged like a motherfckr, the hair’s barely alive there… uhh and you think she looks good? jezuz, wept!
seriously, she looks like a lawn gnome. what a freak.

I think she looks good for her height though it wouldn’t hurt to gain a few more pounds. I wouldn’t want to be that thin though.
By Brenda G on Apr 29, 2007 | Reply
kittah the severly overwieght people can join the gym, they just arent allowed onto the machines they do stuff like swimming, simple aerobics classes etc
till their wieght is at a level where it is safe to exercise on the machines
equally the really thin being quite under their BMI have to gain wieght as not to strain their hearts, and those with eating disoders tend to have body dismorphia, so they arent encouraged to exercise at all as they need the wieght instead they would refer the person to a nutritionist
thats how my gym works any way
By boo on Apr 29, 2007 | Reply
but if nicole is getting psychological help as well as as nutritional and physical help then under such circumstances surely working out at the gym and watching ones own body become stronger and toned is a positive thing for a recovering e.d person?!
i know from my own personal experience that once i joined the gym i started to see my body in a much less negative way and i actually didnt have such han ups with eating as i knew i was a burning it off, and b, fuling myself to become stronger.naybe it the same for her.
By Mia on Apr 29, 2007 | Reply
Just because she needs to gain weight, it doesn’t mean that she should not exercise. EVERYONE needs exercise. She just needs to take in enough calories to compensate for it.

By Kittah on Apr 29, 2007 | Reply
Brenda G, I agree that the morbidly obese should not be allowed to certain machines (i.e. ones that have a limit to 300lbs or so) but at the same time, anyone who is recovering from an ed should be encouraged to use the gym as they need to change their negative outlook on their body and start building a healthy relationship with food (i.e. eat healthy and exercise as opposed to starving and using various drugs).

By Meredith on Apr 29, 2007 | Reply
Brenda, the only regulation they have here is that people can only sign up for 30 minutes at a time on cardio, but some people get around it by signing up for the same machine a bunch of times in a row and staying on for 2 hours.
And as for overweight people, I think some of the cardio machines have a weight limit but I don’t know what it is.
Okay… so how are people who are over weight supposed to lose weight and get in shape if they’re not allowed in gyms? Alix I agree with you! I was just about to say the same thing!

I think Nicole could use more weight on her, but she appears to be working on it. The definition in her arms says that. As far as the great gym debate goes, the UK controls that. No point in fighting about it.

i’m enjoying the discussion on gyms. i joined a uk gym just for the summer last year (it was boring and i only went 4 times). it was just after exam period so my bmi was a bit on the low side (about 17.5) and i didn’t have any problem joining. i can’t believe in america they don’t take any measurements from you. i had my weight, bmi, percentage body fat etc taken and an exercise plan created so that i wouldn’t loose anymore weight and could hopefully put some weight on.
she still looks too thin, but she looks better than she has done, her arms looks quite good
By Betti on Apr 30, 2007 | Reply
she is looking alot better here! im hoping that she is trying to bulk up, its a good idea to bulk up with excercise because that way you can still control your weight, get to a healthy weight with no unsightly flabby bits, but be healthy too. its probably the only way she feels comfortable puuttin weight on at the moment!
if, of course, that is the reason she is at the gym! I hope so!
By Sel on Apr 30, 2007 | Reply
Brenda G is talking crap! I’ve lived in Scotland all my life and because of moving around a lot I’ve joined around 6 different gyms so far - in not one of them have I been weighed, asked my BMI or anything else. They ask if you want a program drawn up or if you have any medical conditions and thats that.
Brenda’s comments are downright daft - like loads of other people have said everyone has the right to work out - whether they’re tiny or whether they’re huge. We all need exercise.
Oh and I think Nicole looks fantastic, I love her skinny!

By emmie on Apr 30, 2007 | Reply
Brenda G — I wish they would keep extremely underweight people from working out here. There is an anorexic girl who goes nuts working out at my gym. I’m scared I am going to watch her drop dead on one of the machines. I asked one of the trainers about her and they said they have many people complain and ask the gym to step in, unfortunately they can’t. Also, anorexics neither burn fat nor build muscle when working out, rather their bodies burns muscle and tissue in an effort to preserve any small amounts of body fat they have. Not so good.

By skinnymimi on May 2, 2007 | Reply

By tmk on May 2, 2007 | Reply
