Kylie Minogue is Proud of Her Curves

Some of you may have noticed lately that Kylie Minogue has put on a few pounds, giving her a healthier look. She apparently decided to address that fact last week in Cannes. Kylie was quoted saying that she loves her new, fuller figure and enjoys having “curves in the right places”.

She added, “I love having curves - forget these skinny girls. I love feeling feminine and womanly - being curvy in all the right places is part of that.”

I’m glad she has a positive body image, but what is up with all the skinny bashing lately? If people want to be thin, I say, let them! And vice versa.

Who’s next, I wonder?

Kylie is looking good. Although, her face was prettier when she was skinnier - cheekbones!! But after all she’s been through, she probably has more important things to worry about than being thin.

    her look very sweet.

I HATE THIS WHOLE ‘IM PROUD OF MY CURVES’ when it is coming from women who are actually skinny just not skeletal. not everyone is lucky enough to curve in the ‘right’ places..

  5. By Claire on May 31, 2007 | Reply

She survived cancer and how (great!) she looks now is a secondary issue. She used to be very very skinny but had a good body shape - which shows now again. Her current size is probably still far under average women of these days.

  6. By apricotmuffins on May 31, 2007 | Reply

She’s talking about the overly skinny girls. Kylie is still very very slim, just not skeletal.

I personally think Kylie had a bit too much botox. I’ve seen some close-ups of her and she looks like a plastic doll.

  12. By dieta on May 31, 2007 | Reply

I agree, I hate those skinny girls saying “i am proud of my curves” as soon as they put on a few pounds and don’t look skeletal anymore… Kylie is still very thin, and she is the last one I think about when speaking about a curvy woman…

kylie is very pettite and used to be a UK4-UK6(US0-US2) she is now UK8(US4) and supposedly has curves??
i think she looks fabulous, a bit more meat makes her look even more sexy, her cheekbones are still there and good makeup will highlight them
but i dont think going past a UK10 would suit some one so pettite so i hope she maintains this wieght, which i think she will easily because her previous before the cancer was really strict

She does have curves, but they are only slight in the hip and breast areas. Either way, she’s still skinny.

wow… if those are courves… an average woman must look like a whale to her…

  18. By fliss on May 31, 2007 | Reply

I hate it how some people think fat = curves. Curves are about having a waist, bust etc and a femine shape. You see overweight people that don’t have a feminie shape and also really slim women who have great curves (like Halle Berry). Even though Kylie is petite she has a tiny waist and a butt so she is pretty curvy.

  19. By fliss on May 31, 2007 | Reply

    sorry *feminine shape

and I think she look great (considering she has overdone it on the botox)

  20. By Elle on May 31, 2007 | Reply

    I agree with fliss.

You can have curves while being thin and while being heavier, but a lot of overweight people don’t seem to have them. I think it has more to do with the way your body type is and the way it is built.

Anywho, Kylie looks good! It’s great that she feels secure in her body, more people should!!

  21. By Christine on May 31, 2007 | Reply

How funny. She hardly qualifies as curvy. She probably still weighs 25 lbs less than your average woman.

  22. By ln on May 31, 2007 | Reply

she is the only person i have ever seen that looks good in high waisted pants! wow!

  23. By Kikilicious on May 31, 2007 | Reply

Not all women that are thin are or have an eating disorder. She might have always been thinner, so for her she now has curves….I do see that she is not a stick and she has a shape. I myself am slim but im very curvy, its possible. Curves are not exclusive for heavier women.

  24. By Anon on May 31, 2007 | Reply

Miss M. I was thinking the same thing. hahaha.
Curves? Huh? She’s pulling off those unflattering high waisted pants that only look good on girls with no curves.

Anyway, the fact that she has to come out and make a public statement about how she loves the pounds she put on is sad - to me it just says, I’m insecure and I need the world to tell me that they love my curves too.

  25. By Katie on May 31, 2007 | Reply

I agree with Fliss too its something that really annoys me.
Did anyone see her exhibition at the V&A in London? She is TINY but unlike other stars (ahem nicole richie ahem) she is in proportion and has amazing curves.
    Viva Kylie she is amazing

  26. By Fray on May 31, 2007 | Reply

I agree with those who’ve said that curves are NOT fat, but rather a certain body shape. And yes, they are totally sexy when not hidden under rolls of flab. Kylie looks amazing.

And I, too, am sick of the skinny bashing. When it comes from thin celebs, it sounds too much like a desperate attempt to gain popularity and distance themselves from all of the current criticism about Hollywood and weight. When it comes from heavy people, it’s just sour grapes and jealousy.

  27. By Kittah on May 31, 2007 | Reply

She’s tiny, certainly not curvy. Someone like Marilyn Monroe is curvy….and Kylie’s body is nothing like hers.

Well she did have cancer. Maybe she’s just happy to be alive and has realized that being thin isn’t the most important thing in her life. She’s by no means too curvy. She looks like a real woman.

  37. By Holly J on May 31, 2007 | Reply

I agree with What…lets be real hear. 95% fo these girls/women on here are way below the average weight of women. As for the skinny bashing…well, I think people are just sick of seeing so many already thin girls feel fat because they’re are emaciated below 100 pound women, running about now in hollywood, making everyone who is already thin feel ‘average or fat’. I relate. I wear a size 1, and while I know I’m not fat, when I get around people who are under 100 pounds, I feel very average or not thin…I am probably not explaining it well, but I think its easy for people in hollywood to 4get how thin they are, because there are so many women now who are skin and bone and they are being made into Fashion Icons….ex Nicole Richie, Hillary Duff when she was thinner

  38. By Holly J on May 31, 2007 | Reply

oh, and I agree with Kikilicious…NOT ALL THIN GIRLS HAVE ED’S. I think its really messed up how people assume if your thin that you puke or don’t eat…its rude and prejudice…just like assuming all people who are overwieght shove food into their face all day.

I am sick of celebs suddenly praising CURVY bodies, just because they binge and gain some weight. So instead of saying, ’shit I gained weight and I can’t wait to get skinny again’ they try and pretend like they wanted to gain the weight.

Umm…no…lets face it, NO celeb WANTS to gain any weight. What a hypocrite. She was underweight for years. I give it a couple months before she is back to her previous size.

  43. By trix are for kids on May 31, 2007 | Reply

She’s definitely curvy. Her waist is small compared to her hips. You can be small and still curvy–I am. What ISN’T curvy is huge women with measurements like 40-38-40. Sorry, that’s not curvy. That’s just fat.

  44. By carmen on May 31, 2007 | Reply

what curves? she has gained 5pounds or less if she has indeed gained any weight. Kylie has always been petite and sound really stupid coming out with comments like the ones she’s made.

  45. By karmalife on May 31, 2007 | Reply

I think she looks great- the definition of “curvy” has obviously changed over the last few years so who knows what she means. She’s just defending herself, I suppose, for not being the rail she probably feels the pressure to be (even though she looks perfect to me)…

  46. By Abby on May 31, 2007 | Reply

I think she just appreciates her body now because it helped her fight cancer and why abuse it anymore by not feeding it? she is just realizing now what all women should-that she should just love ourselves for who we are. but it will never happen.

Well said abby!! I think kylie does look a little better these days - before the cancer she was super skinny - was really actually quite bony, although she has always had an amazing butt!!! I dont quite agree with her saying she ‘loves her new curves’ or whatever - all celebs seem to say this, then they get really skinny again - i.e - geri halliwell!! When she recovered from her ED’s and got to a normal size, she said how sexy she felt etc etc but now shes getting emaciated again and ‘apparently’ wont stop until she looks like victoria beckham - what a great role model she is for her baby daughter!!

If a woman weighs 105, she does not have to go to 150 to add curves. 115-120 can make a really fine difference.

Yeah, the whole super-skinny bashing ticks me off. I love my body, too, even if it lacks much muscle or fat. I am bonier than most people, but I eat healthy and love my life. It is just as bad to insult someone who is very skinny as someone who is larger. I have some beautiful, confident larger friends who are smokin’ hot and they maintain pretty healthy lifestyles too. Healthy and happy is not measured in sheer numbers.

Kylie used to be skinny, now that she has put on weight I think it looks good on her. And to all of you who say she has no curves, come on, pls! She definitely has some really nice curves, in spite of being slender. After all you don’t necessarily have to be fat or even average to be curvy - curves have little to do with your weight, it’s the shape of your body mainly. Of course you can’t have curves if you are emaciated, but one can be thin and still curvy -like Jessica Alba.

  58. By Turbo on May 31, 2007 | Reply

Okay. I’m old school but when someone uses the term ‘curvy’ or ‘curves’, I envision a Sophia or a Marilyn, someone with a little meat on their bones but not a lot of fat.

You can be on the lean side and still have curves if your waist to hip measurement is significant, but based on that picture, she doesn’t seem to have nary a bend in her road let alone curve.

  59. By Lilith on May 31, 2007 | Reply

“I hate it how some people think fat = curves. Curves are about having a waist, bust etc and a femine shape.”

So true! And Turbo’s right about Sophia Loren and Marilyn Monroe and Raquel Welch. The feminine ideal, the shape that triggers hardwired desires in the male brain, is a shape with and 80% or less waist-to-hip ratio. If women have a wide hip structure, they can put on some fat around the waist and and still have those curves. It all totally depends on bone structure and where you put on fat.

Hey, if we all put on fat only on our breasts, there’d be no problem, would there ;) !

she’s pretty and talented…but is in no way curvey. She’s always been really, really skinny. I honestly can’t think of a single girl skinnier than Kylie that doesn’t look unhealthy.

  62. By hez on May 31, 2007 | Reply

I hate those pants and those shirts, but I really hate that she looks so darn cute in them… I think she looks great now, but I don’t get why she can’t love her curves and not hate on the skinnies. I’m minimallly curvy, but if I get more than that, I look more plump than zaftig. I’m just not blessed like Kate Winslet (who never looks the least bit plump) or Beyonce. Also, to the poster who said 40-38-40 isn’t curvy, I have to agree. That’s kind of like being a board- don’t most women have at least a ten inch gap between their waist and hips? However, I don’t think 40-28-40 would necessarily be fat or unattractive.

  63. By elle on May 31, 2007 | Reply

Is “curvy” the new fat nowadays? I think she has a great ass, boobs and taille.

It cracks me up how the media calls Jessica Alba curvy because she has a butt…curvey is Jennifer Lopez or Salma Hayak. Its a woman that has an hourglass figure and it’s typical enthic woman because asian and white woman don’t normally have a small waist and rounded hips. Kylie has a nice body and she does have curves but i wouldn’t say she is curvy.

  69. By apricotmuffins on Jun 1, 2007 | Reply

im with all the other sentiments that very slim girls can have curves too. I know plenty of girls who are the same height as me and practically dissapear when they turn sideways, but have hips and boobs because they havent starved themselves to get that way, theyre just naturally very willowy.

marylin monroe, if she were posted on here anonymously would probably get called a fat pig and told to loose weight. but i still think she’s the architypal curvy girl, exactly the figure most men go crazy over.

kylie is a wise woman-and it has nothing to do with cancer. she came out of the experience as air-headed as before. If she were to discover the true meaining of life as another commenter said she would have steered clear of botox and started yoga or something. I believe she is sage in a stree-wise manner. probably she cannot follow the strict diet and/or the appetite suppresants being in a fragile health. she has indeed gained weight and in an unflattering manner-mainly in her legs-here it doesnt show so well. so she started saying this bulls*it about curves and stuff. you know she will try pretty soon to get rid of her biggish thighs. she is so transparent and an idiot
