Photoshopped Amanda Bynes

amanda-bynes-the-early-show-2007-09-11-008.jpg

The beautiful and talented Amanda Bynes did The Early Show this morning. I didn’t manage to see it myself, but apparently during the interview, they showed some images from a recent photo shoot that Amanda did.

Now, in my opinion, the girl is super-gorgeous already and in great shape and didn’t need any photoshopping. However, they still managed to whittle quite a bit of weight from her frame:
amanda-bynes-the-early-show-2007-09-11-005.jpg

Sorry that the picture is a bit blurry - it came from a screenshot from the actual Early show.

Now, to compare, here is an actual picture of Amanda a couple of weeks ago on TRL. Note the difference in weight:
trl-8-27-2.jpg

Now this is the type of Photoshopping that really irks me. I mean, they take an already-thin girl and airbrush even more weight from her?

I don’t think she is photoshopped that much, she is thin and just the angles and sucking in can make you appear thinner!

  • Persephone |

That’s very sad that they would do that. Her body did not need slimming down. I can understand airbrushing to fix imperfections in her hair, skin, the lighting etc. The last photo does not look as bad as the first.

  • Chels |

That’s sad. She is beautiful and has a really nice figure.

  • Andrea |

What is especially ironic is that these photos are for her own clothing line at Steve and Barrys, Dear.

  • shay |

yeah shes the type who has a chubby face and no matter what weight her face remainschubby .. it’s cute.. jen anniston said it took so long for her to lose that face baby fat . but why would they give her a 12 year old’s body? she’s almost 21 years old!!! or she just have turned 21.. that’s crap.. her line in suppose to appeal to teeny boppers not elementary kids!

  • ashley |

Oh my god. That’s awful, she looks so anorexic.

  • Allie |

I honestly think she looks great either way, but absolutly gorgeous in the picture where they “slimmed her”. Now I only need my waist to look like that.

  • Jess |

its so unrealistic, how can they get away with it?!

  • nic |

She’s one of those people that are “just legs” - you know, relatively short torso.

  • margaretta |

Nice commentary with all the weight issues going on you’d think they would know better

  • healthy girl |

I love her shape in the unphotoshooped one where she is wearing black…she looks curvy, but still thin

  • Rachel |

They’ve made her look like she has no stomach or bum, she looks alot better and womanly in real life and has a brilliant figure anyway!

  • lambman |

the first pic also looks stretched out as well as photoshopped, I mean look at her face in it, that looks nothing like her…I wouldn’t have recognized her without context knowing its her clothing line.

she looks a million times better in the TRL pic than in either add…but she should go back to her natural brown hair, it was healthier looking and more flattering to her skin tone

  • maddison |

If Amanda is hands-on with her clothing line, you’d think she’d have a say in this photoshopped ad of her image. Unless she actually likes it.

  • suzy |

Think what this does to peoples’ heads. Allie, above, being a prime example. Even though she KNOWS photoshop was used, she still compares herself to the “re-sized” size. Imagine what this does to your average tween or teen girl…

No wonder we’re all so messed up. I’m a size 6 and I still feel like a whale compared to these ’shopped photos.

  • Pink Cashmere |

Why’d they have to add like 5 inches to her legs though??

  • SandanistaGirl |

The PhotoShopper definitely put the skinny in Skinny Jeans.

  • schuk |

The first photoshopped pic looks so unreal, urgh…

  • erica |

those pics are sick, gross, and sad.

  • Allie |

I don’t think its had any negative effect on me though, so I don’t think Im your example. I would want to be that thin with or without a picture.

  • jones |

i’m sorry to all those who say it’s not photoshopped, but it is clearly retouched. look at her face and her legs…it’s so incredibly visible, you cannot deny it.
she’s a very pretty girl, nevertheless, and i see no need for them to photoshop her pictures.

  • cherry |

The first pic looks awful, she looks horribly skinny…all that photoshopping really is unecessary.

  • Sarah |

It doesn’t even look like the same body in the two photoshopped pictures; in the first one, her legs are much, much longer.
And also, notice how she has high cheeks bones and a super thin face (in the 2nd photoshopped pictures especially).
Like Skinny Girl said, it’s sad - because Amanda Bynes already looks perfect.

  • reese |

wow, she’s got the perfect body in the second picture, absolutely amazing!

  • Adrienne |

That first photoshopped pic. makes her look like a ten year old in giant heels. How could they think that’s attractive for a 21 year old? Besides, she is already very slim! I agree about the face with the baby fat and all, but they made her look like a different person.

  • Christy |

That’s photoshop on drugs! Her body is one thing, but they did a number on her face! Looks like a completely different person!

  • Mel |

She looks better in the airbrushed pics :)

  • Dani |

the photoshopped pic looks beyond fake - noone in their right mind would think she really looks like that.

  • Mimi |

her legs are weird, like her calves are underdeveloped or something

  • Casey |

She looks much older. And for anyone envying the photoshopped ideal - you need help. Its obvious that you have let this form of media warp your mind and image of what a real body looks like too much. It is physically impossible to obtain what is represented in so many photoshopped ads.

  • snow storm |

yea that pics def been messed with. i mean her actual body is slim anyway, but she is petite, say 5 ft 5, but that pic from the photoshoot makes her look like a 6 ft odd supermodel.

  • narcissiste |

Wow. While I’m certainly not in the “blame the media” camp when it comes to eating disorders, this is pretty egregious case of photo manipulation to promote an unhealthy (and clearly false) body image. Moreover, if I were Ms. Bynes, I would look at those pictures and be inclined to ask: “What’s wrong with the way I *REALLY* look?”

  • danni |

wow no kidding…. it’s almost like they wanted it to look like a special effects photo! (The first one in particular)

  • Ana Brynn |

The photoshopped pic really puts unrealistic expectations on women- no wonder people don’t want to eat anymore.

She looks SO MUCH BETTER without the photoshopping! Yeah her cheeks are a tad chubby, but her body is amazing-curvy yet thin!

  • Jasmine |

this girl is uglyy!! ugh i cant stand her face.

  • izzie |

damn, she looks horrible in the first picture… MUCH too skinny and not natural. (it´s obviously photoshopped.)
the second picture is much(!) better! :-)

  • Annika |

gack!!!!! those pics look soooo fake, no wonder so many women feel they have to keep up with unrealistic proportions! Whoever used photoshop on those should be hit in the head! Her body looks less realistic than a barbie doll in those pics! The “normal” pictures are cute, however.

  • Serendipity |

Wow, they really went to town with the photoshop, huh?

Otherwise, I see no great talent or beauity in Amanda Bynes… She’s nothing exciting, I really don’t get her hype. Who cares?

  • kittykat |

this girl is beautiful. in reality she looks so much better than in the first photoshopped picture.

  • Alyssa |

I would be insulted if I were Amanda Bynes. I don’t think she should have been shopped. The proportions make her look awkward instead of elegant.

In high fashion magazines, such as Vogue or Harper’s Bazaar they never have to rely on shopping the models’ bodies outside of correcting lighting and makeup., and a large reason for this is that they hire professional photographers who have studied painfully for their art. They understand angles and aesthetics of balance to make their subjects look ethereal and elegant. They enhance the models’ beauty and bring out her better qualities while cleverly downplaying the less attractive.

Long rant but point to make: Pay for good photogs (Like Annie Leibovitz, LaChapelle) and you don’t need this awkward sh!itty shop job.

    What say you?

  • Maxx05 |

Yes. I’d say that is SERIOUSLY photoshopped! She was close to that thin when she was sick with mono several years ago. At that time all the trash rags were claiming that she had A.N., but she sais it was mono, and I have no reason not to believe her over the rags. Pictures should not be altered like this.

  • julie |

why dont they just start putting cartoon women on the cover of these magazines?? The “real women” they are putting on, are so photoshopped they arent even close to “real”. It has totally turned me off to magazines and so and so on the cover…. its just too fake.

  • s |

they want her to look like she’s 12 still…ugh, so annoying! She’s beautiful just the way she is!!!!

  • Jessica |

If they wanted a super skinny model look, they should have hired real models and just put Amanda’s name on the ad. That doesn’t even look like her.

  • katy.. |

when I first saw it I thought it was like a cartoon/interactive version of her- like her character in a computer game etc. because it looks so fake! I don’t have a great liking for her, but I still can’t believe that the photographer/photoshopper could get away with this as it just looks stupid- i wish we could see the ‘befores’ of these pics as I am sure they are WAY better! x

  • Susan |

She’s absolutely adorable and a wonderful role model.

  • MB |

I don’t like her but her body is beautiful and they should not have photoshopped it at all!

  • SandanistaGirl |

I say high fashion magazines do cover touch-ups (like anyone) because the cover is not about art when it is about selling issues. This Amanda Bynes example, though not cover-worthy appears, is making her grotesque because someone expert on customer psychology will assume potential buyers think: “If those jeans make her skinnier, they’ll definitely work for me!”

  • sol |

she looks so much better without photoshop!

  • Jodi |

I don’t get her appeal at all, either, Serendipity.

  • mdawg |

    i like her better non-photoshopped

  • Agnes |

She’s more gorgeous irl than in the photoshopped pictures.

  • Joelle |

The photos look awful. If I was Amanda, I would have been pissed. The photos aren’t realistic.

Personally, I don’t consider Amanda attractive. She looks okay. However, she seems to have a nice personality.

  • Jamie |

I guess photoshopped is the right description but this reminds of the 90’s Paula Abdul video where super short Paula looked like 6 feet tall.

I think Amanda looks super tall and stretched in the photo with jeans, but the other photo she is pretty close to her actual size.

  • Turk |

Bad photoshop job, she looks so disproportional.

  • papa bear |

they made her face look weird. the first photoshop is a HORRIBLE job. the last one is a bit better though they took WAY too much off of her midsection.

I dunno, she looks like she’s already in fantastic shape in movies so it seems kinda frivolous to make her skinnier in print.

  • Golden |

AWFUL!!! Why do they do this to us? Photoshop, especially to this extreme, is so wrong!

  • cossey |

They can photoshop a picture of me doing her!

  • Renee |

thats really sad.. Amanda has a rockin body they shouldnt have photoshopped her. that is so ridiculous and its even so obvious.
When they brought these up in the interview was it on the subject or was it more just to show ppl like hey i had a photoshoot isnt it cool..

  • Ultra skinny girl |

I LOVE the second photo there.Reminds me a little of myself.

  • Erica |

They made her look like anorexic. She already looks thin in ‘real life’.

  • Mia |

that is sad. god give a girl a break, not even the exceptionally gorgeous ones get away it seems.

  • Emma |

This isn’t photoshopped…..It’s called makeup, lights and angles…..anyone who knows even a little bit about photography would know that.

  • beautyqueen18 |

I think she looks perfect in every single picture, the real pics and retouched. to whoever said she looks better as a brunette, i love her as a blonde. i think it looks really natural on her. amanda bynes can do no wrong.

  • Shannon |

I went to TRL today (they tape 2 shows on Tuesday, the one I went to is airing tomorrow) and she was the co-host and she looked great! She had on a fitted navy blue minidress that looked amazing on her, not many people can pull that off. There was no need for that airbrushing.

  • Stacy |

Shes so thin but her face is so chubby
    it looks weird

  • Ultra skinny girl |

She looks like a whole different person, check out her face. It’s sunken in!

  • denise |

    Re: snowstorm’s comment

Amanda Byrnes is not petite!!! She is 5 ft 10 not 5 ft 5!!

  • maureen |

I FREAKING LOVE HER AS AN ACTRESS AND SHE SEEMS LIKE SUCH A COOL PERSON! I THINK SHE LOOKS GREAT BEFORE PHOTOSHOP AND THEY SHOULDN’T HAVE TOUCHED HER PICS! (SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS MY COMPUTER KEYBOARD IS BROKEN!!)

  • Sylvie |

The photoshopped picture almost looks like a caricature. It’s so fake looking and odd. Strange!

  • Linda |

1st pic: Beautiful girl! A natural beauty
2nd pic: Some newboy on the shot made a terrible misstake in photoshop, taking away too much of her midsektion and all of a sudden she looks like Jennifer Aniston in her thinnest days (exept for the hair)
3rd pic: She looks all natural again, and beautiful
4rth pic: That same newboy messed it up again. She now looks like a younger sister to Sarah Jessica Parker.
To sum: Either its that newboy messing up - or that girl’s a cameleont!!!!!! :P

  • breads |

a pretty healthy and quite skinny girl made even skinnier for what??
thank god i am not 15yrs old and bombarded with such false imagery of beauty

  • Miss M |

Wow, great legs. She looks nothing like herself in the jeans picture! But oh, what a great pair of legs no matter which picture you look at!

  • Serendipity |

Ultra skinny girl, maybe you wouldn’t have to toot your own horn so much if you gave yourself a pat on the back once in a while. Strangers, by and large, don’t care.

  • Ana |

she’s so funny! and her body is perfect!!

  • Shannon |

Its hard to tell if its the angle or clothes but I hope they didnt photoshop her. I agree there is no need for that when she has a nice figure. She is skinny yet curvy. She has a pretty face and nice hair too. I watched her on Nick with my kids and we would laugh at her skits. Its nice to see a pretty girl get silly, and crazy looking.

  • FW |

those pics are so photoshopped they are comical - people just can’t seem to help themselves anymore - they have the technical ability to do so much more than the old fashioned airbrushing that they don’t know when to stop - i wonder about Amanda - her weight goes up and down constantly by 25 pounds or more - makes me think she has some problems

  • over it |

yes… that’s the industry for you… always out to make women feel good about themselves… setting completely realistic expectations, you know…

  • Sofie |

SHe is skinny which I typically like a little more curves, but something about her is so cute to me. And, it seems like on top of it she has a good personality and is funny.

  • Tamara |

Not only photoshopped to look thinner but also taller - much taller and longer legs - I need to hire me one of those amazing photoshop artists!!

  • Chloe |

All I can say about this is that her legs look DISGUSTING in the first photoshopped picture.

  • Anonymous1 |

That is some ridiculously bad photoshopping. It looks like they pasted her head on someone else’s body. Actually, it doesn’t even look like her head. RIDICULOUS.

  • apricotmuffins |

holy cow, the photoshopped pictures have to be a joke. people DONT look like that, even the extremely slim ones! her waist is smaller than her head.

    its getting beyond sick, really….

  • sky |

That is bad photoshopping she doesn’t look natural. And when she does look natural she doesn’t need to be phtoshopped! It’s stupid everybody knows when somebody looks so wierdly perfect its airbrushing or photoshopping so why not just leave it out they have make up artists and stylists and the best photographers so the pictures are gonna look great anyway.

  • Shannon |

She’s not petite, she had on heels at TRL, and was maybe an inch shorter than the host Damien, and he’s 6′2″! The heels were like 4 inches, but without them, she’s probably 5′10″.

  • andrea |

It looks in the first photoshopped picture like they just took a regular picture and stretched it. She looks like 8 feet tall.

  • Ultra skinny girl |

“Serendipity” Could you say that so I can understand?I am not american.

  • Bea |

    uhm…
    thats ridiculous
    && so obvious
how could any magazine print that?
she is already so SO slim why would someone
    want to photoshop her?
just another example of telling already really skinny girls that they’re not skinny enough…
    _bea♥
    x33

  • nina |

wow, what the hell. the first picture is just plain sick.

  • nina |

OOPS, i was refering to the first PHOTOSHOPPED PICTURE.

  • Francis |

wow her legs go on forever, she looks good but that picture is crazy photoshopped. they didnt need to do that though she is already really skinny.

  • that_flyy_chica |

that 2nd photo is hideous she looks like a giraffe with bony legs…since when are bony legs supposed to be attractive????

  • chink |

i don’t think it was photoshopped, much anyway, first of all, the views are from the side, certain people look slimmer from the side than upfront, especially with legs.. so i don’t think she was photoshopped that much.

  • blabla |

her waist looks ribbless in the first ps photo, and her legs are made to be too long, she looks like an alien/waif. she’s much prettier normally.

  • givi |

tis obvious, but then again, miss bynes has had her fair share of skeleton-dom.

  • KLaw |

Those photoshopped photos are really weird. I knew a fashion photographer who did that kind of stuff - lengthened legs, etc. Not that I’m an advocate of the practice, but he was way better at it. He didn’t try to make the girls look like anorexic 12 year olds - he appreciated real, sexy women!

  • Sacharomyces cerevisiae |

this is amateur job at its best… she does not even look human-like an emaciated giant probably. These magazine tricks have become utterly ridiculous.

  • Ultra skinny girl |

    I shall now call her:Amanda Bones!!(Bynes-Bones)

  • Ultra skinny girl |

They just made her look like a REAL model like the ones who allways look perfect in clothing magazines and such.

  • dasdfaf |

they’ve completely changed the shape of her face.

  • DivaDivine |

It looks like the stretched her body out in the jeans and t-shirt picture. She is so cute, I don’t know why editors insist on photoshopping something that probably didn’t need to be photoshopped in the first place.

  • Yita |

Ademas, le hicieron las piernas largas laaaaaaaaaaaarrrrgas, como si midiera mas de 1.80m!
