Keira Knightley Thinks She is Twice The Size of Other Actresses

My goodness… if I haven’t heard a story of body dysmorphic disorder before, I have now.
Keira Knightley was quoted recently as saying that she is “twice the size of most other actresses” and “one of the largest actresses”.
The super-slim ‘Atonement’ star insists most of the women she auditions against are far smaller and skinnier than she is.
She said: “Weight is a big issue in Hollywood because I’m twice the size - height and everything else - of most of the girls who are going in to see the director for a part. When you realise that I am, at my size, one of the largest actresses there, you start to think, ‘I don’t think it’d be healthy for me to stay here much longer.’ “
So, she is mostly referring to seeing a director for a part in a movie, but still… does she not realize that she is extremely skinny? If what she says is true, there must be a gaggle of skeletons out there clamoring for movie parts.
Wow, she seriously does have eating issues. I can’t believe she thinks she 2x the size of others!!! If anything, maybe 1/2!

she’s clearly means that she if she, at her size, is one of the largest actresses, it’s really unhealthy to be in that situation. meaning, she knows she’s slim, but if she’s not slim compared to everyone else, then it’s pretty shocking.
you get it? she’s commenting upon the huge focus on being tiny tiny tiny in hollywood, and commenting upon how shocking it is that she is actually bigger than most girls who audition. she knows she’s slim. she’s making a social observation.

Sorcha……most of us Yanks don’t understand the term…”taking the piss”. I know it means “joking” but to you Brits the term “pissed” also means drunk. For us Americans it means either mad or urinating….that’s it.
She said this like three years ago! then she said her jeans are usually European size 38, so that is…like what.. size 8?

I think she is talking literally about her dress size. it is not a drastic statement at all. I can attest to taller ladies wearing a larger dress size, even when rather skinny. even when I am skinny, I wear a larger size than my ‘chubbiest’, shortest friend.
in her statement, Kiera Knightley even talks about her height. it is a very sound, actually. especially considering that she talks about how the situation makes one pause and consider the profession.
I think she’s simply exaggerating….It would be impossible for her to be twice the size of someone else. If she is a size two like she has claimed, then the other actresses are all 00? I don’t think so.
This is an old quote - I read it at least a year ago, when she was slightly bigger than she is at the moment.

She forgets that the average height for actresses is something really small, like 5″3 or under, maybe? I think she’s about 5″7 ish, so she would be bigger than them, even in dress size because her body frame is bigger.
maybe she suffers from the same kind of problem I do- on my own I look a lot thinner but around other people its apparent im just… bigger. shoulders, head and all. Everything about me has been upscaled. its scary…

I find her body type to be really unattractive. If I were a man, I could not see where being that thin would be sexually appealing. She seems like she would be weak, and tired alot. And before people start jumping on me about that comment, please realize that naturally, only about 1% of all women are that thin.

Oh please. Who is she comparing herself to? There are plenty of tall actresses who get big time roles (Charlize Theron, Julia Roberts, Cameron Diaz, Ang. Jolie for example). Kiera is shorter than all of them, and she is skinny as well!!
Body dysphormic disorder? She’s one of the SKINNIEST actresses and who cares if she’s taller? I think sometimes directors might prefer a taller actress than one that’s shorter than average, if the tall person is still skinny.

I know this is an older quote, also she might be talking about height at about 5′6-5′8″ as rumored, she is twice the size of most Hollywood Starlet’s because they are all about 5′4″ and under… A lot of tall women have hang ups about their height which effects issues with their size. She might be so thin to compensate for a height difference…

I totally sympathize with you: it may not be healthy for you to stay in the limelight much longer. you can be excused and get the hell out of here
People don’t tend to take into account how much clothes can change a person’s physique. She clearly has a larger lower half, so she disguises it with dresses that float away from her body with emphasizing her upper half with lighter, more form-fitting colors, just like that dress shows. She’s really good at dressing for her body type.
I’m certainly NOT saying she’s even remotely close to a normal size, especially recently and with those bikini pictures that came out. But she’s not skeletal.
I have known some other anorexic females. I would tell them to take their clothes off and look in the mirror for about 1/2 an hour.
When Keira looks in the mirror and sees her full rib cage exposed and other bones ( such as the hip bone), how then would she say the other actresses are skinnier?
It’s obvious that she has some sort of eating disorder, whether it be extreme portion control (to reduce her caloric intake to maintain such a tiny frame), over-exercise, anorexia, bulimia, etc. There are so many eating disorders, and I am 100% convinced that she has one. If she could say this, then there’s obviously something wrong with her friggin’ head. She’s got such a pretty face (sometimes)…she would look wonderful at a weight of 130-140.
She needs to just STOP TALKING. She’s just digging herself deeper and deeper.

Twice the height doesn’t even make sense. She’s 5′7″. The average woman is 5′4″, and the average height for an actress has got to be at LEAST 5′6″. I don’t know what she’s talking about.

Usually, I totally enjoy ridiculing celebrities, but today I’ll be nice. First, I wish that picture was totally Photoshopped because it’s so grotesque. please, correct me if im wrong. But im pretty sure that this comment is very old. Ive read it a long time ago, back when she actually WAS twice the size of nicole ritchie, paris, etc. Now she’s just like them, but i dont think its good to bring up this comment again, because i am pretty sure (once again, not fully, so correct me if im wrong) she didnt say while she’s this thin….its taken out of context as far as im concerned.

if she is a normal bone frame size i wouldnt doubt she was 2 times the size of the shorter girls. everyone i saw at calls were very short and strait hipped. most women lose thier hips with thier wt. so that gives them a 2 size avantage.
Drew Barrymore, Sarah Michelle Gellar are both much shorter than their listed heights.Actresses always do this on their websites and resumes. Ex/ Drew Barrymore is about 5′2″, Sarah Michelle Gellar is 5′3″, this is probably why Keira feels “larger”. She might tower over the other actresses. Others have mentioned that this is an older quote, so I’m going with that. Keira does have a bigger bottom half while her top is much slimmer, so she dresses to hide where she’s fuller.

The times she has mentioned it in the past few weeks was because a jerky reporter asked her about those anorexia rumors and if she is one. But then you have our blogger coming up with this old quote, then trying to pass if off as new one in order to prove those negative judgments. Nevertheless even though she did not say this recently, everyone keeps posting it like she said it yesterday. It makes a big difference being she said this before all those anorexia rumors starting popping up.
i don’t think she thought before she opened her mouth to speak, i think we all know that she has always been on the skinny side, but shes sued a paper for accusing her of anorexia, if all the girls out there are half her size then surely they would pick on them rather than her.

I agree with the posters who said that she said that to get attention. That’s the only reason she’d say something that ridiculous. Anyway I don’t think she has BDD. Or anorexia for that matter. Okay so she’s not “natually” as skinny as she is now, but she’s definitely naturally thin. Usually if someone is just going crazy on a diet it shows - case in point, Nicole Richie, Jessica Simpson or Janet Jackson. Keira has never been (and I suspect never will be) anywhere close to chunky. I wish everyone would lay off her.

There is some sort of body dismorphic type situation that one will find herself in when at such a low weight and it effs with your hear… I have been struggling with it for years…

I get what she is saying: That she is skinny and yet she is still twice the size of actresses in Hollywood she auditions with. And I still disagree with her and think she is a nut. If what she is saying were true, the results would be on TV and film, and they’re not. Keira is a super skinny actress. Yes, there are one or two out there more thin, but she is at the far end of the think spectrum. That being said, she has gorgeous hair and face…but even a thin worshipper like me would not want to be as thin as she is. Or as apparently stupid.

I feel that people should give Kiera a break! Yes she is thin…a lot of people are thin and if you look at the size of her lower body you can see that she is not starving herself like some catwalk models who have legs like matchsticks. She has a naturally small upper body. We cannot criticize her for something that she has been genetically made up to be! And someone can be thin without being anorexic or having any form of eating disorder! I am 5′7 and wear a size extra small in most shops and even that can be too big. I am not anorexic, i eat just as much as the next person, but tend to lose weight when stressed. In a situation such as kiera’s being constantly commented on and followed by the press it must be difficult not to have body issues, we should just cut her some slack and realise that she is a person, not an object and that we all have problems with ourselves without other people going on about them!
