Jaime Pressley, who had a baby in May of this year, claims she lost her baby weight through constant exercise and by doing the Cabbage Soup Diet. People claim to lose tons of weight in a very short period of time on this diet, but unfortunately many gain it back.
Jaime also admits to beginning her workout and diet merely 10 days after giving birth!
The Emmy Award-winning actress admits she started getting back into shape 10 days after baby Dezzi James was born in May (07), and she used the Cabbage Soup Detox Diet twice to help her shed the pounds and tone up.
Pressly says, “I got back into the gym and worked out two hours a day, five days a week, and I did the Cabbage Soup diet.”
Jaime however showed up at the 2007 Emmys in quite an awful dress that didn’t do her newly slimmed-down figure justice.

For those who are curious, the cabbage soup from the diet is made with the following ingredients: 6 large green onions, 2 green peppers, 1 or 2 cans of tomatoes (diced or whole), 3 Carrots, 1 Container (10 oz. or so) Mushrooms, 1 bunch of celery, half a head of cabbage, 1 package Lipton soup mix, 1 or 2 cubes of bouillon (optional), 1 48oz can V8 juice (optional).
What do you all think - a good way to lose, or dangerous? Has anyone tried it? (I haven’t, personally, and never plan to).

I don’t know if crash diets are that good for you, really. Slow and steady is better for maintaining and continuing a loss. Her dress really doesn’t make her look v. impressive at all
oh my goodness, that dress is terrible!!!!
ummm I think it sounds healthy =]…I also think it would taste good [for the first 2 days]…lol..good job shedding the weight though!!!
one of the first!
thats dress makes her look like a mermaid with a jellyfish body -.-”"
the cabbage soup diet…….. by then end of it the thought of eating the soup makes you physically ill. i’ve used it twice - at the end of an 18 month period over which i slowly - throiugh healthy eating and exercise - lost 13kgs (33 pounds) and just wanted to lose another 2. it worked. and then before a party, to lose two kilos to look good in a dress. the latter reason was of course ridiculous, and i gained it back quickly. i think it’s a good way to start/finish a weight loss regime, but not a way to lose weight long term… and i certainly don’t think that celebrities should be promoting it.
Very Right It’s a great for people whom have otherwise been eating junk food; to eat healthy. It’s a great soup don’t use v8 too much sodium. Red cabbage has much more benifits. I add Soy bean curd for protien and it’s a healthy all around soup. You can also add chicken too. Yum Yumm Enjoy everyone Cheers to Good Health
Whenever I look at someone who admits to being on the cabbage soup diet I instantly think ‘lethal gas’
It didn’t help her dress sense
my cousin and i have been on the cabbage soup diet! you lose weight but it screws up your metabolism. its a crash diet and doesnt help with lifestyle change. anyways that dress is ugly. top part makes her look so bulky !!!
for someone who has been on the diet since may AND works out 5 days a week, she doesn’t look as thin as she used to. she looks bulky.
Cabbage what??? Is this, the 1950s?
Just exercise & eat lowfat / healthy.
I went back to marathon training 24 hrs after giving birth. The sooner, the better re. exercise. 10 days is too long.
Her upper body in 1st pic looks flabby.
That diet is really popular in the anorexia-forums lol. That says enough, doesn’t it!
Its a crash diet, apparently it works well. Everyone I know who’s been on it lost heaps. But its hard work.
gee, that nutritious and balanced cabbage diet must have done her baby wonders when breastfeeding. Isn’t it good to know the only thing on her mind 10 days after having her first child was how she looks…
Ha, I agree the dress is awful.
I’ve tried the Cabbage Soup diet, however I left some of the ingredients out…Such as mushrooms, which I hate and a few other things which I can’t stand. Anyways, yeah it works, but like others said exercising, watching portions and not eating junk food work just as well…
That’s a low-calorie recipe, which if eaten for every meal, would mean you’re just on a highly restrictive, very low calorie diet. Most everyone would lose weight only that (albeit water weight, unless done for a prolonged period). No magic there.
Just eat smaller portions/cut a few lattes/exercise and it will be more feasible and less damaging.
She could do with a bra though! And that dress… what was she thinking?
Haha that soup sounds like something I’d cook on a normal day.
She should take some of that cabbage and fashion herself a bra out of it. Hoist those things up, for f*ck’s sake.
My god, people really have their priorities screwed up. When I can find a woman who knows the importance of a well-balanced diet, and also knows the importance of indulgence, then I will be satisfied.
chee chee, so, excess sodium is bad for the body ( which, by the way, there is no evidence for) but eating an extremely low-calorie, almost protein and fat devoid diet is not?
It’s really only a one time thing. I did it and lost 8 pounds in a week, pretty good to shed the weight off fast, but I could never do it again…
tim jones, tell them:) And by the way low sodium is very bad specially if your drink too much water can cause Hyponatremia,
Hyponatremia occurs when the level of sodium in the blood becomes diluted by too much water intake. If the kidneys produce more urine, which can wash away too much sodium, especially when the patient is following a low sodium diet.low sodium causes symptoms including confusion and lethargy. The patient may feel nauseated, and experience muscle twitching, which can progress to seizures….
Anyway the helthiest diet is the one in which u consume all-carboh.,protein,fat..and so on and in moderate amounts, that´s all.
Hey, at least she’s honest! Keira Knightly and her “I literally pig out all the time. I really try to gain weight by eating loads, but it’s just my metabolism!”
Her bum still looks big… but that’s probably just genetics. She’s still cool, though.
The cabbage soup diet makes you fart up a storm - seriously - if you want to offend people easily - go on the cabbage soup diet - stiiiinkkyyy!
haha!
oh her dress is so ugly! She does look great though. Too bad the dress doesn’t show off her figure–it is truly awful.
ugh–hasn’t that diet disappeared yet? I tried it a few times in the early 90’s and could never make it past the 3rd day. I was woozy, dreaming of chocolate chip pancakes, and the soup quickly becomes the most disgusting thing you’ve ever tasted in your life.
I think you must be kind of desperate to try such a drastic low calorie diet. I am sure that you lose weight quickly, but as the soup contains very little protein and she may not have been doing much resistance exercise, a lot of the weight loss will be muscle.
I can’t believe she would have the energy for 2 hours of exercise 5 days a week on such a low calorie diet- I couldn’t do it!
o_O is she on a mission to prove that being perfect weight-wise alone will not make you look good?! the dress is just hideous, and the hair+make-up are rubbish too.
I’m always skeptical when someone says they’ve lost a pile of weight, then are seen in some hideous bag of a dress. If your body is smokin’, then show it off so we all can see it.
I didn’t even know people were ridiculous enough to still use the cabbage soup diet. I thought and hoped it went out in with the 80s
out with*
She has great smile.
I was doing Jaime while she was on the cabbage soup diet and she farted a lot!
she’s dumb - that diet is gross and pointless - why don’t you just eat healthy food and watch your calories and fat intake?? and why pound yourself for 2 hours in the gym everyday when you have better things to do like looking after a newborn? - what is her big hurry?? she’s not going to get fired if she’s 20 pounds heavier than last season - dumb broad
lose quickly, gain back quickly
This woman just had a baby people give her a break! I think she looks amazing! Anyway, I heard that interview and she said she did that detox twice to jump start here and then did the low carb thing.
I have done this diet twice before my wedding and it worked for me. I actually like it to jump start a diet. I plan to do it after I have my baby.
At the risk of going completely against the grain here: I really like the dress and find it quite flattering. Sure, it’s not skin tight on top, but just because you’re slender doesn’t mean you need to wear fabric glued right to your skin to look great.
I wouldn’t want to eat any food exclusively for even a moderate amount of time, but that soup sounds pretty tasty! I have a head of cabbage in the fridge that I was trying to think what to do with. Thanks for the recipe!
Tried it for 5 days, lost 9 lbs, so sure it works. Felt light and thin. Looked thin too
But it’s obviosly not healthy.
Jaime went to the gym 2 hours a day for five days and with that schedule; any diet you will help lose weight and tone up.
Jamie has the most spectacular body. DOA (Dead or Alive) came on video last week….WOW. If anybody wants to see some examples of women who are very thin, but still have healthy muscle tone and don’t look emaciated that’s the perfect movie.
Jamie’s body is UNBELIEVABLE in it, you can see abs, tone in the arms and legs and like 0 fat.
the movie is pretty much a B movie though, if you want something really mindless to watch I’d recomend it…stupid humor and cool fight scenes, you could probably make it into an awesome drinking game
I hope this isn’t a double post, but usually I can see my comments say “in moderation” and I can’t
anyways, check out DOA Dead or Alive with Jamie…it is a very goofy movie, very stupid humor with awesome fight scenes.
but everybody in it is in such awesome shape! Thin, well proportioned with great tone!
Why did this chick have a baby? She sounds totally obsessed with her looks and work. Right after I had my baby I wouldn’t have left my baby for 2 hrs. All the freak had to do was nurse! I lost 25 pounds nursing.
I used to think she was cute a long time ago but now I don’t think she looks good at all, too much plastic surgery or something maybe…her features are so pointy…not sure what happened. She’s always had a good figure so I’m sure she has the discipline to get it back.
I’ve done the cabbage soup diet & it totally works! its sooo hard to stick with though, but its great for a quick fix. I had to fit in a bridesmaid dress that was 2 sizes too small for me & this did it. Unfortunately you gain it all back as soon as you start eating regular. but its a great start to weight loss.
I hope she isn’t breastfeeding because if she was her baby was starving right along with her. I don’t understand the crash diets after pregnancy. If you breastfeed your expending 500-700 calories a day, JUST BY FEEDING. All you have to do is eat like a normal person and the weight, which is mostly fluids, will just come off. It’s worked for me. I lost all 40lbs of baby weight in 3.5 weeks. Though I did lose half of it right off the bat with delivery. The other 20 just “melted” off, no exercise necessary, though I did just to tone up because that’s what’s important after pregnancy, gaining muscle tone again not losing weight.
Well it’s a very unflattering dress but the weight loss is noticeable in her chest area. Nothing that a more flattering dress and a bra couldn’t fix. For detox purposes I prefer to do a live juice fast, works great and is full of vitamins and enzymes. I don’t think I could do that soup diet, it doesn’t sound appealing.
dress - bad. hair - even worse. cabbage soup diet — worst idea ever.
She looks good, but a VERY unhealthy diet. Most of it is water weight. What she did was like an eating disorder. Eat VERY low calorie, and exercise constantly and the weight will come off, but that doesn’t mean it’s healthy. People don’t need to go on this diet to lose weight. For the same amount of calories, you could eat Lean Cuisine meals, salads, lean chicken, lean fish, etc.
Terrible fashion sense still. Maybe she could go on a fashion diet, abstaining from horrible sack like dresses?
Hahahah cossey!!
She’s got nice eyes.LOVE the colour of them.
it is a quick fix. don’t use v8 juice.
here’s my story:
i tried it once for about 3 weeks and lost about 12-15 pounds.
you get really sick of the soup…and the weight does return ..especially if you return to bad eating habits…
last spring i did it for 2 weeks to fit into a bridesmaid’s dress. lost enough (5-10 pounds) but it’s a very strict diet.
i don’t know how she could have exercised that much. i would have passed out.
that’s the big drawback - you lose fat but also lose muscle tone since you’re too tired to workout!
I also think its quite insane, obsessive, and narcissistic to put so much focus on getting your body back when you have just brought a life into the world. Some people really don’t have their priorities in line. I’m not one to be mean…. she does look damn good.
It’s so so bad for you to start exercising before 6 weeks post partum. Studies show that exercising too early after birth leads so major health problems in the future.
You dumb ass ladies! Every stupid female is always looking to get skinny quick and here is why this cabbage diet works . . . Its all liquid and farts. Soup is the easiest diet ever because its all water you stupes. The only way to lose weight is one of two right and wrong. We all know both so you stupid girls chose and once you’ve realized how fun exercise and eating is then you’ll lose some damn weight, the right way, fat asses! Ugh you dumb girls drive me crazy love yourselves jerks!
I’d never do the Cabbage Soup diet. I like to eat too much, lol. I think the best way to lose weight is to work out and just watch your total calories. My husband’s coworker’s wife did the Cabbage Soup diet and he called it the “Fart soup diet”. I guess it’s pretty bad, if you’re not used to all that fiber.
salt is good for you if you’re a PLANT. personally, i would not eat that soup, too junky. a craving for salt is really a craving for minerals you can satisfy with healthier options such as oysters, clams, and tomatoes. the juice of plants that turn the salt into a bio active sodium is so much better than table salt. buy a juicer, but i know, it’s work doing all this!
i did lose all my pregnancy weight every time within a couple weeks of delivery by strictly breastfeeding, no supplementing with formula. it’s proven that breastfeeding is one of the easiest methods of blasting that lower body fat into oblivion. unfortunately it can easily creep back again after weaning your babe.
imm sooo doing this diet!! I need to lose ASAP!!!! wish me luck
This diet is fucking bunkum. Sure, you’ll lose weight quickly, but you won’t learn how to adjust your eating habits to ensure the weight stays off after you’ve discarded this diet as the garbage it is.
Yeah, real healthy. Onion soup mix. Save that crap for the trashy *dip* it’s intended for.
What is so sad to me is that she is starting to diet and exercise 10 days after giving birth. So ridiculous. Giving birth is a major stress on your body, and you need to heal, for Christ sake you bleed for 6 weeks after giving birth. I guess she didn’t breastfeed because you need to eat right and be healthy to produce quality breast milk. It is sad if her baby had to suffer so she could be skinny. And so sad that she had to starve herself. Hollywood is disgusting.
sarah, good luck destroying you metabolism and subjecting yourself to endless yo-yo dieting.
The Cabbage Soup diet is not meant to be done long term — it’s a one week detox diet. Furthermore, it pairs consumption of said soup with a different kind of food each day for the week — days are devoted to fruits, vegetables, high-fiber foods, high-carb foods. The idea is to, with the soup, flush out all the unneccessary crap you have in your body while, each day, introducing healthy levels of fresh and healthy food. At the end of the week you will have lost some weight (more than 5 or 6 pounds isn’t healthy on this diet), but you will have also reset your metabolism. If you continue to eat healthy and excercise regularly after the week is over, you’ll gain back a few pounds at first and then continue to lose weight at a healthy pace of 1-2 pounds per week much easier than before you ate cabbage soup for a week.
And, for the record, I like this soup. I make mine saltier than recommended because I have naturally low sodium and I like salty things. I would never, ever do this for longer than the recommended week and/or without the supplemental foods they want you to eat while you’re doing it. If you’re just eating soup, you can kiss your healthy metabolism goodbye.
And I agree with the minority out there — I like her dress, a lot. Sophisticated, and it makes her legs and hips and torso look gorge.
A sensible diet is one that can be continued AFTER one’s desired goals are reached, with adjustments to calories and macro-nutrients, but without sacrificing the majority of the staple foods.
If it’s something like the Cabbage Soup Diet, which lacks healthy fats, protein, and variety in micro-nutrients… it can’t be subsisted on once you reach your goals. If you can’t see eating the same kind of food for the rest of your life as you would during your ‘diet’, only in different portion amounts, then it is undoubtedly not a wise way of going about things.
Criticizing the cabbage soup diet, in particular: The weight lost is more likely to be a combination of water, poop (because of the fibre, I’ve heard), and muscle. When the body doesn’t get enough calories, it goes into survival mode: it holds tight to its fat reserves, and cannibalizes its lean mass, instead.
So really, every time you go on a crash diet, you are shrinking your muscles little by little. Because you have less muscle, your metabolism slows down, and your body needs fewer calories to break even with what you expend. Because we’re generally used to eating the same old foods, and crash diets are hardly a lifestyle change, we end up gaining all of the weight back and more. That’s why it’s called ‘yo-yo’ dieting.
I’m gonna try it. But only for dinners. Breakfast I have a Protein shake and Lunch a Fish Sandwich. I couldn’t imagine eating the same thing 3x a day. If she did, God bless her, she deserves to be a size 2.
I NEVER believe these Hollywood girls are on the diets they refer to…I believe that they have doctor-supervised help, personal trainers, chefs, and the incentive of their salary to get them through. Most of them refer to the diet of the day or one that people will know, and no more questions get asked. I just don’t believe it!
I’d prefer reading in my native language, because my knowledge of your languange is no so well. But it was interesting! Look for some my links:
