National Examiner: Diet Disasters

I usually never buy or read the National Examiner, since most of the time, its stories are quite outrageous and ridiculous. However, they have really hit the nail on the head with their current cover story, entitled: Diet Disasters: …they get rich selling YOU diets - but they can’t lose weight!

In the article, they feature the usual suspects like Kirstie Alley and Oprah, but also include Sarah Ferguson and Dr. Phil. For instance, Sarah has been a spokesperson for Weight Watchers for many years now… but lately, she has piled on the pounds.

Dr. Phil wrote a book called The Ultimate Weight Solution - and regularly preaches on his TV show about how you have nobody to blame but yourself for being overweight - but recent candids suggest that he is now up to a whopping 250 pounds!

We all know about Kirstie’s problem keeping weight off from Jenny Craig. Oprah, on the other hand, is constantly handing out weight advice to guests on her show, yet is now up to an estimated 200 pounds.

Click here to read the full article… it’s pretty interesting.

    well..it’s not that easy…as we see ; )

  2. Oksana | 10/10/07

ha ha easier to say than to do!

  3. tim jones | 10/10/07

And this is why “diets” don’t work. I think Kirstie Alley looks pretty hot.

  4. mika | 10/10/07

it’s just so hard to lose weight permanantly!

but celebrities should really try as hard as they can because any slipup they make will be known to the world

  5. Eliza | 10/10/07

Isn’t Dr. Phil a big man? I think he’s in good shape for a man his age.

  6. Eliza | 10/10/07

    And Kirstie looks gross.

  7. rachel | 10/10/07

judging from that picture, there’s no way kirstie weighs 145. unless she is like, 4 feet tall, i’d say she is at at least 200. when she was young and thin she probably weighed around 120 or so…so she’s def gained more than 25 pounds since then.

Oprah has been going up and down in weight for years now. This is all just proof: the only good diet is one that teaches you to completely change your eating habits, for life. If you just cut out things or restrict, you will probably just gain it all back when you start eating regularly agian.

So true. The Enquirer should’ve also mentioned Dr. Andrew Weil.
Everyone needs to make money somehow, unfortunately these hypocrites do it at the expense of people desperate for a way out of obesity.

  10. Asuka | 10/10/07

Are those photos on the cover really accurate and recent? Kirstie looks much thinner on the JC adverts.

I think non celebrities probably feel so relieved to know even these people have trouble controlling their weight. Of course they also make yo-yo dieting seem normal, which can’t be all that good for the general population.

Dr. Phil is a “big” man, and has always been one. And he is not 25 anymore either. One of the main points in his book was to find a weight that you were comfortable with, and that isn´t always the super-skinny alternative. He exercises daily and seems healthy.

  12. Krissi | 10/10/07

Dr. phil. what a joke. He’s always seemed gauky and out of shape… I doubt he play tennis as hard as he can. But that’s not what bothers me.
What bothers me is that he is NOT in his best shape and has no right to belittle people. Now if it were someone like Montel who stays in shape year after year, I’d have no problem with his harping on people, but he has to look at himself.
    Again. What. A. Joke.

    wanted to add:
    Montel as in Montel Williams

  14. Balloon | 10/10/07

fergie is so not 160 lsb
    what are they thinking?

  15. Miss Ramona | 10/10/07

    Sarah Ferguson is a goddess

  16. BoBeffi | 10/10/07

These people all concentrate on dieting - they probably spend all their time thinking about food and calories and what’s good/bad - now wonder they can’t keep any weight off.

  17. MMH | 10/10/07

It just goes to show you that all these people are very Human, just like everyone else! They all can fail at the weight loss game just like normal people. I’m sure they all feel bad about gaining their weight back, especially when most of them are ’spokespersons’ for some diet, or book.

  18. Ellablack | 10/10/07

I dont believe that the photos are real, you can still photoshop candids. Those magazines are getting rich themselves by posting articles like this so people buy them.

  19. Sophia | 10/10/07

I think the blurb about the duchess of york is a misprint. they aren’t talking about fergie. she never dated prince andrew, and there is a real dutchess (not duchess) named sarah ferguson.

    that’s why it’s a tabloid!

  20. Spectra | 10/10/07

Sarah Ferguson hasn’t been the WW spokesperson for a while, right? I know she used to be really into it, but lately I think she’s kind of been in hiding (probably so people don’t see how much weight she regained).

Oh, and Montel is RIPPED. He really does work out a lot, even though he has MS.

  21. Jodi | 10/10/07

Montel is HOT! I’m glad others here think so too! :-)

  22. Jessica | 10/10/07

There’s no way Oprah is 200lbs. Her heaviest was 230 or something, and she was huge! I highly doubt she’s 200….maybe nearing in on it. I’d guess she’s in her 170’s or 180’s by the way she looks on her show.

  23. Willow | 10/10/07

    Thanks for the article.
You save us $$$$$ by posting them.
I think Oprah’s Bob Greene is a fake who
will put his name on anything.

  24. ~*~Katie~*~ | 11/10/07

i highly doubt thats even oprah….it looks like a very similar looking “double”. there was this one chick that used to be anna nicoles double when she was fat and she looked exactley like her. i honestly dont think that looks like oprah….something about it isnt right.

    “the diet myth”
    Great book, explains it all.

  26. Swanhilda | 11/10/07

I think it is highly contradictory that Oprah will have Dr. Oz on her show and he’ll say to stay away from the evil “high fructose corn syrup” then in another show, she’ll have Bob Greene on touting his Best Life diet, which endorses a lo-fat yogurt (among other products) that do contain high fructose corn syrup. I don’t know why a health and fitness guru like Bob Greene would give high fructose corn syrup the thumbs up by putting his stamp of approval on products containing it.

normally the enquirier seems to make things up or exaggerate but this they got spot on - it’s so obviously when these people put the weight back on - and it’s so aggravating watching their commercials and seeing someone like Kirstie regaining a lot of weight and still saying she’s a success story - success is getting it off and keeping it off without going crazy

part of me feels for them because it is a hard thing to do and a big lifestyle change for a lot of people, but if you’re being paid millions of dollars and if you’re going around as spokeperson encouraging other people to do it too - the you have to hold yourself to a higher standard - you have to do the program as everyone else does and you have to commit yourself to keep the weight off - i’d do anything for a million dollars and these people come off as spoiled celebrities when they poo poo that paycheck by not following through with their committment

  28. Tyra Banks | 12/10/07

Well if they didn’t put all these damn chemicals in food so that people would get addicted to them, then maybe we wouldn’t have this promblem. Then again they are rich and can buy organic so they really don’t have a good excuse.
