Amy Winehouse Struggles With Bulimia, According to Father

As many of you have heard by now, Amy Winehouse’s father has been speaking to the press about his daughter’s recent drug and legal troubles.
The thing that caught my attention was his claim that Amy is suffering from bulimia, among other things.
Mr Winehouse said his daughter has cut down on her drinking in the past year but is still battling bulimia and drug addiction.
(Bolding added by me for emphasis).
Well, this is news! I can’t recall ever hearing about Amy’s bulimia in the past. Now her father has outed her.
Anyway, I hope that she gets help with her eating disorder and drug addiction. The girl is immensely talented and has such a wonderful future ahead of her if she cleans up her act!

I think it’s upsetting that her father feels the need to reveal things this personal about her (even if they are obvious AND old news). I would be pissed..

I don’t know- people who are so far deep into their disorders and diseases usually have to be willing to get better on their own. Other people’s words and actions don’t always matter. That’s what I’ve seen anyway…

I heard that she was bulimic a while ago as it was mentioned on the radio… Although less emphasis was put on her eating disorder than drug abuse. It seemed that she has never admitted to having an eating disorder herself, but friends and family are obviously aware of it.
Where was this photograph taken of Amy? I feel so bad for her, i want to give her a hug.
I think she’s one of the most amazingly talented artists alive and needs to start taking better care of herself before she pulls a Morrison on us. That would only leave 4 years…
I was looking at her picture and thought, that something is weird about her, and then i realized, it’s her hair, it is flat and looking like normal hair! If it would be combed, it would look good!
Too bad she’s troubeld, I like her as an artist though, hope she will get well.

Why is her dad talking to the press about this? Not cool. She’s hugely talented and also hugely sick. She’s also skinny-fat, a phrase I actually get when I look at her. Too bad, she’s a beautiful girl too…in a very unique way.
Papa Winehouse not only “outed” Amy, he “outed” himself. I’d put money on Amy’s problems somehow being related to boundary issues with her dad. Like, for example, Dad being over-involved in his adult daughter’s personal business, and not deferring questions about her TO her. Papa’s little “property” is still rebelling…

I saw an interview with her when Black To Black was released in Europe (long time ago) and she admitted to having had anorexia and bulimia and a bit of everything (her own words)! But I think that she’s slipped back into the EDs again
She admitted herself a while ago that she had problems with food (both bulimia and anorexia).
Poor girl. Its very obvious that she is struggling with things these days. I hope she pulls herself together.
i guess with the limited info people outside the UK have on amy, you dont know the full story which may explain the attacks on her dad
amy outed her bulumia over 1yr ago when back to black was released here, after her quick and tragic wieghtloss which was just way to quick and she had gone too far
her dad is supportive of her and its her won ambitiousness that has got her where she is, she worked hard for this sucess, but is putting it all to waste it seems
her dad defended her with the overdose/spasm reaction from too much drug use, whenever the press attacks her etc
its the mother in-law who seems dubious
Amy herself mentioned she has “a little bit of anorexia, a little bit of bulimia” a while back. Besides, it’s painfully obvious - she looks emaciated, but often has puffy cheeks.
so tragic, i hope she pulls through.

I wish her well, she’s and incredibly talented artist. I saw an off the moment interview once and she didn’t come off a tough at all, rather insecure.
Bulimia is so dreadful for so many reasons. I think it’s easier to overcome anorexia.

How can anyone be surprised by this when the last 3 posts about her on this site alone are about her scarfing down food - and not healthy food at that.

If anyone had actually seen the interview with her father like I had, they’d have seen that her father was genuinely trying to help her, and only 3 days previous had had to fly to Norway to bail her out of prison for drugs offences.
I think he simply wanted to inform the media of what’s really going on to stop the endless speculation that’s been happening with Amy.
Either way, I hope she gets better. She’s so talented.

IF her dad REALLY wanted to help her {and my guess is her family is effed up too or she wouldn’t have taken to drink and drugs like a fish to water}…HE should get some counseling as to how to deal rather than talk sh!t about her to the press. I mean, that is like Al Anon 101…”loving detachment.” Forcing her by outing her to the press is not going to help her at this point and WILL backfire. Sad.

I agree with Karma. She is going ot have to want to get better on her own. I hope thta it happens, but I don’t see it happening for a long time.
I kind of suspected she had an eating disorder. Lots of times, drug use/legal problems and EDs go hand in hand (not always). I feel bad for her and I hope she wants to get better. Her dad telling the press that she has bulimia isn’t going to make her get better, but it might push her in the right direction to seek treatment.
it obvious amy needs help but i don’t think her dad should of went to the press. Instead he should talk to her himself and let her sort her own problems out when she wants to
I commend her father for letting everyone know. When something like this comes out in the open, it can force a person to get help. They realize what they are doing, they receive criticism for it, realize they are not projecting a good and healthy imagine to kids and teens, and so they get help. She needs help. I don’t particularly like her but I do feel bad for her and the struggles that she’s going through. I hope this helps her realize what she’s doing to herself and gets help because she really needs it.

Parents should not get involved in their adult childrens’ lives, at least not to this extent. He has betrayed her right to privacy.
I love Amy as a talent and I hope she finds what it is she’s looking for in life.
It was outrageous for her father to go to the press with this. Yes, he should be looking to help her, but not by going to the public, that is horrendous in my opinion. This girl looks like she is feeling totally miserable so I really feel bad for her, and hope she will realize that she needs to get help ASAP, and will DO IT!!
I knew about her boulimia for a while, it had been published about 6 months ago in some magazine. Also because of an interview with her father. And I wasn’t surprised, look at her fragile body. Of course that could be because of the drugs, but.. well… let’s just say I wasn’t surprised at all!!!

i have to stress amy was the one who outed her bulimia, and talked about her anorexic tendencies, you actually have to see the interview and seen the press over the past 2yrs in which her dad has been nothing but honourable with his behaviour
hey valeria - i don’t think she’s pregnant. the bloat of her stomach comes from the bulimia. vomiting (or even laxative abuse) can cause a bulimic to become constipated. this can be the result of dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, etc. their natural system just becomes out of whack. so, i would speculate she has her tummy from not being able to go to the bathroom.

i have thought this ever since you posted pictures with her and bags of mcdonalds food, the whole “fast food diet to gain weight” is crap. im bulimic and at my lowest of 82 pounds i would just go from drive through to drive through on bad days and eat shit just to throw up. the second i saw those, i knewwww it.
i knew it not bc i heard it bc she was constatly eating fast food and not gaining any waight… anyway its messed up that her dad outed her like that- what a moran!

If my old man went public about my disorder, I’d be a liiiiiiiiitle pissed off. That’s bastard-ish. I don’t think it’s up to anyone, not even close family, to disclose that sort of information to the press.
But she IS talented (I partly think it’s because she’s eccentric that she expresses herself so well - think Kurt Cobain.), and I hope she gets better.

I think the word ‘talented’ is a relative term. no doubt she has talent, but maybe her ‘talent’ of producing such an influential style of music because of her lifestyle.

Even Lily Allen made fun of her eating disorders in the past, so the dad isn’t revealing any shocking secret. Nevertheless, he’s not a model parent when he’s always speaking to the tabloids — possibly selling insider information? — about his daughter’s personal struggles.
Of course the parents are the least of her problems. The real issue is her husband. K-Fed is a gold digger, but he’s harmless compared to Amy’s gold digger and drug dealer man.

Elaine - Bulimia easier to overcome than Anorexia? why on earth would that be? I think that’s actually quite offensive and perpetuates the myth that Bulimia isn’t as much of a problem as Anorexia, when you could keel over and die of a heart attack/gastric rupture at any point. It’s that kind of attitude that keeps people from getting help. ALL eating disorders are serious and merit help, not just the “cool” ones.

just because someone is not scary skinny it doesn’t mean they’ve not got an eating disorder. i’m 5″5ft and at my lowest i was 89lbs. i’m now 102lbs and still spend my nights hunched over the toilet. so casandra, she can have a “normal” sized stomach.
