Hollywood’s Latest Diet Secret

ww11.jpg

It seems that Woman’s World likes to make bold claims about the latest Hollywood diet trends…

This latest “trend” is quite unique, however. It’s not a pill, it’s not a food plan, it’s not a crash diet or special juice. Nope. It is…

Portion plates and dishes.

For some reason, the article cite Halle Berry and Kelly Clarkson as two celebrities who have used this method to lose weight. Which makes no sense at all since Halle is pregnant, and Kelly has… gained weight.

Interesting, no? Anyway, to read the two page story, click here.

Eh, I am not big on portion control. It teaches people nothing about nutrition.

  • Fiona |

Essentially I’ve been using this method for years. But, instead of a plate to determine portions, I just figure how much looks deliciously perfect…….and then cut it in half. VOILA!

  • Balloon |

it says that the died helped Halle BEFORE she got pregnant.. that´s somethings else ;)

although i don´t believe any shit of it

  • Cossey |

    Lame money making scheme!

  • Karma |

Tim - It may not teach them anything about nutrition but for the totally ignorant it at least shows them that eating the entire plate of pasta served at most restaurants is NOT a “single serving”..

  • Sarah |

Look I know it sounds a little dumb but I think it’s a good idea for a lot of people. A lot of people have no discipline about portion sizes and I bet it’s a big reason for so much of the fatness in the world (especially US.) But beyond discipline, some people just are not aware of how much they overeat - it’s for that kind of person that these things might help.

  • leone |

i think this is a great idea!!

  • sherri |

The article clearly says ssed by Halle BEFORE she got pregnant. And Kelly Clarkson has been up and down many times, so it’s totally possible that she did use them.

Anyway, I say WHATEVER WORKS! If it helps you with your portions - then go for it.

    hahaha

Every issue of Woman’s World has a diet as the main focus of the cover..its really annoying. Hell..they even had a big feature on Kimkins…what does that say?

  • Jodi |

I think that magazine cover just gave me a seizure.

  • suzy |

Part of good nutrition is knowing what to eat, the other part is how much. It seems moronically simple, but I bet it really does help some people.

Problem is, these plates crack me up because they remind me of the ones with bears on that I used to use when I was three. If I ate all my veggies, I could see the little bears going for a walk in their rain boots.

  • kate |

thanks, but i can’t limit myself to one christmas cupcake or angel cookie.

  • Mouse |

These are the most cheese-tastic products ever! Love it! No, Cossey, it’s a BRILLIANT money making scheme. hahahaha.

Yeah, whatever works. And considering what some people consider a single serving, these plates just might do the thing to get people thinking about what they put in their bodies.

Still kinda sad that people’s perspectives can be so off that they need plates.

  • MONZAA |

The thought behind it is logical and might work. Just don’t look at it as diet! Bottom line: enjoy your food but not too much. The article slightly exaggerates it, though…

  • Skinny Time |

Its a good idea but why can’t you look at your plate and fill half with veggies and then a fourth with protein and carbs? Its common sense right?

  • Jordan |

It does look as though Melissa is toasting us with that festive red cupcake, damn her, and damn those artificial colors that make my mouth water like a third grader at a holiday bake sale.

  • Nani |

I’ve been doing something like this for a years. I always eat on salad plates and eat cereal out of small bowls. Part of me just likes small things but it really helps with portion control. I wish i thought of marketing it first :P

  • Elaine |

Shucks I thought the diet trick was going to be cupcakes.
    LOL!

  • Maxx05 |

My first reaction was that this is absolutely one of the stupidest things I’ve EVER heard of..what an obvious ploy to take advantage of people! Then I read some of the comments. I guess I don’t realize that some people really DON’T know what a healthy portion of food is, or when enough food has been consumed. This whole, you need a plate to tell you when to stop eating makes me cringe. I don’t understand how you do not feel it when you’ve eaten a certain amount - signal that you’re done until you get hungry again. I don’t like either being hungry or overfilled. But I guess this will work for those who don’t know how to do it otherwise. Learn something new everyday.

  • Erica |

Yeah, for me it is easy to know when I’m not hungry anymore and I stop eating but a lot of people just eat until all the food is gone even if they’re stuffed. Most people I know do that, actually. THey don’t understand the phrase I’m not hungry. If there is food there, they’ll eat it.

  • Persephone |

some people really do need to be taught portion control. the “diet” would work for most people especially if they could maintain it.

  • Spectra |

What a rip off. I could see MAYBE how they could be useful at a restaurant where portions are enormous, but when you’re at home, how difficult is it to measure out a 1/2 cup of rice or pasta? I do use those little compartment plates at family reunions/potlucks though. I fill the big part with salad/veggies and the small ones with meat, fruit and/or carbs of some sort. It prevents me from eating too much of my aunt’s mashed potatoes :) But I’d never pay $20 for a plate that has lines drawn on it that show you where to put your food. You could just take a Sharpie and do the same thing to your own plates.

LMAO @ their claim “Works better than diet pills!” wtf, they aren’t even CLOSE to being the same method of weight loss.

  • Jodi |

Hey, you can always “cheat” with these plates by heaping your food vertically while still staying “in the lines”!

  • Charli |

Ha ! Kelly Clarksons a fattie, great example there :\

  • Kaleena |

I heard about that long before now.. maybe 2 years ago? It seems logical. I’m sure the plates make it a lot easier to follow, lol. But it almost reminds me of school lunch trays.

  • Kimberly |

    WHAT THE F*CK?!?!?!?!?!?!

I came up with this idea years ago but I thought it was too stupid to pursue. Shitface!!!!!!

  • Frankie |

LOL I can cut down my portions myself without this B.S.
And, um, as u said, Kelly Clarkson DID gain weight!lol

  • Jodi |

LOL, Kimberly! Seriously LOL. At 4:55 a.m.

  • tallenglishgirl |

To those of us who are on intimate terms with dieting and nutrition, this may seem silly or even pointless but for those people who see giant restaurant portions as ‘normal’ this aid will serve to educate and illuminate.

Skinny Time, I get your drift but veggies (and fruits) ARE carbs. There are only three food groups: Protein, carbs and fat. If you’re food then you’re one of these or a combo thereof.

  • BoBeffi |

The cover of this magazine is always outlandish. 30lbs in 9 weeks?! God, this is comical.

  • Tucker |

Thirty pounds in nine weeks isn’t outlandish if you are really fat like Ruben Studdar…haha.

Portion control is good I guess, it is true that most people can eat like half of what they normally eat and not be hungry.

  • Charli |

Woman on the front cover is a right fattie.

  • BoBeffi |

I hear next week’s cover reads, “MAGIC CHAINSAW!! LOSE 30lbs OF LEG FAT IN ONE USE!!!”

  • Charli |

Mm a magic chainsaw, i want one where can i buy one !

  • LaLa |

I like the Portion Doctor Portion Control Plate. It’s not only good for keeping me in line, it can teach children a thing or two; they learn such disgusting eating habits there.

  • LaLa |

    in school i mean.

  • cristy |

all the people that are against the idea of the portion-control are a bunch of idiots and ignorant about health!

  • cristy |

another thing a person CAN lose 30 lbs in 9 week. But only if you do the work right, not cheat, and if you really wanted it.

I’d prefer reading in my native language, because my knowledge of your languange is no so well.
