Lance Armstrong Runs The NYC Marathon

Now if this isn’t true dedication to fitness, endurance and running, I don’t know what is… Lance Armstrong ran the NYC Marathon yesterday and supposedly broke his marathon goal (which was 2 hours and 50 minutes) and came in at 2 hours and 46 minutes.
I supposed Mary Kate is doing something for him…

I actually saw him run, he went by so fast that I barely recognized him. Good for him!

I think it’s amazing. Do you people criticizing have any idea how hard it is to run a marathon in 2 hours and 46 minutes? That’s not just willpower and endurance getting you through it’s pretty darn fast! For someone that is a cyclist not a runner to finish that well is pretty awe inspiring.
I’m sure his wife is fine and it probably pisses her off that people assume she’s pathetic and miserable over getting dumped. I think that divorce was pretty mutual. Pluse she most likely gets MILLIONS of dollars in alimony, a truckload of public sympathy and has someone with both testicles to sleep with again.
Lance is a great athlete and he’s helped many people with cancer to feel empowered and hopeful. I wish him the best, but I fear he’s his own worst enemy. He’s hurt the people who’ve loved him most . No matter how fast he runs, his choices continue to weigh him down. Life is all about being tested. Physically and mentally Lance is a heavy hitter, but spiritually and morally, Lance is a little engine that can, but won’t. Just how I see it.
I personally think this guy is a piece of crap. His ex-wife used to write articles for “Runners World” magazine, and you could tell by how she’d write that she still had feelings for him and was absolutely brokenhearted by his leaving her. (She’d actually mention him several times in the articles, etc.) Of course, I don’t know her side of the story, but still. I just think he’s a pompous ass.
Yes, 2 hours and 46 minutes is darn awesome. I could never hope to run a marathon that fast (or at ALL!) but I still have zero respect for the guy, just because he seems like such a sleazeball in real life. Getting together with one of the Olsen twins?? That is just gross!!
Lance is a jerk. I ran the NYC Marathon last year and all of the focus was on him and the fact that he was running his first marathon (which he actually finished in 2 hours 59 min. by the way)
He completely took focus away from the amazing runners who were actually out winning the marathon and whose times were about 40 minutes faster. He did run a great race, but nothing so spectacular that it should take so much away from the runners in the lead pack.
Lance is a jerk. Ran the NYC Marathon last year (his first marathon, which he actually finished in 2 hours 59 min, not 2 hours 50 min.) and he completely took the focus off of the amazing runners who were competing to actually WIN the marathon. His time this year was a very respectable time, but once again, he is taking attention away from the athletes who deserve it - the lead pack runners - whose times are nearly 40 minutes faster than his. He just does things for attention. Now that his cycling career is over, he is finding other ways to get it and personally, it really makes me annoyed.

Also, the wife he dumped took up running to deal with her hurt. She started doing this marathon as something to call her own, she did it first and now the hometown hero has to take this away from her too. what a dick.
Get back on your bike and pedal as far away as you can, you doped up attention seeker.

I think he’s a jerk, too. He left his wife and started dating Sheryl Crow to get attention, and now he’s dating one of the Olsens (also to get attention). He craved all the attention from doing the Tour de France so now that he’s not doing that anymore, he’s gotta do something else. At least he did better this year than last year, but whatever. He’s an arrogant bastard for getting his name put on his tag (as Mouse said, that’s reserved for elite runners). He probably demanded it and since everyone kisses his ass, he got exactly what he wanted. I hope his hair plugs fall out.
Oh you people are so ignorant. Lance has done more for cancer patients and research then any one person prior. THAT is what counts. If you saw his wife’s interview with Oprah you would see that she wasn’t a “victim” as you all portray her to be. She wasn’t willing to deal with the bicyclist life style anymore. Also, for those who say he was a doper, get off your high horse. He is the world’s most tested athlete and he has NEVER tested positive. Lance is an amazing cyclist and obviously a decent runner as well. Despite his recent dating choices, I think he is pretty amazing. Let’s see you all cycle 100 miles while treating your body for testicular cancer that has spread to your lungs as well.

I like Lance too. So WHAT if he walked out on his wife and toddlers??? Lots of men do that. He gets so much flak. Like when he won the tour, everyone said it was because he team rallied around him, and let him take first. So WHAT? Anyone of those team members could have taken first, but they let Lance do it for the recognition, that’s team spirit. And just because he left the limelight of that sport and turned to running because that’s what his exwife wanted, what’s wrong with that? Lots of people run. Having his name spelled out on his bib doesn’t necessarily mean he thinks he something special, he just doesn’t want to be another number in the crowd, what’s wrong with that?? He deserves all the extra attention he seeks.
Lance was a runner before he was a cyclist. So sorry for those who try to claim he took up running to take the publicity away from his ex-wife. Plus, has any of you actually cycled a “century”? That’s 100 miles in one day. The tour is 100 miles or more everyday for 20 days straight. Plus, 2 time trials that are an all out sprint. It’s not all flat terrain but some severely steep mountains. It’s extremely grueling and miserable. For this man to accomplish the win once is an enormous feet, but 7 times is just amazing. Also, as for those who believe that he did this by doping and getting away with it because of his status in the sport, do you have any idea what scrutiny the the Union Cycliste International placed upon him? Do you honestly believe the French wanted an American to win their race 7 times? And yes he is the most drug tested athlete on the planet. Please get some sort of clue before you make generalized statements about this man’s athletic ability. Whatever personal social choices he makes may be criticized any way you wish, but don’t try to make his accomplishments trivial.

seriously, the only positive thing I can think of about Lance, BESIDES HIS POSITIVE DOPE TESTS hehe, is that he briefly dated Tory Burch who designs some pretty amazing and cute flats
hehe. in terms of the guy himself, prancing around with celebs seems to be his main hobby now that he has retired from cycling. we are all sooooo impressed HAHA. In my mind, his character (or LACK thereof rather) is more important in how I view him than any cycling race!
Wonder if Pharmstrong doped up for this race like he did for his Tours.

Mandy, He did not test positive for doping last year. A French scientist tested a sample that had previously been tested and was found to be clean. Curiously, the French scientist that retested the sample from 1999 did it with no one their to observe his protocol (or lack there off). It is and always has been a witch hunt.

SP - how naive of you to think there is no politics or $ involved in international athletic organizations? Lance despite being American was great press for the Tour.
What sucks is that Lance is made out to be a saint while others have had their promising careers destroyed because of politics. It’s no secret that many cyclists (athletes of all sports for that matter), use of performance enhancing products. The tricky part is what’s considered a drug and what’s considered a supplement.
Lance is a vicious competitor and I mean truly merciless. I wish I remembered the name of the writer who traveled with Lance and wrote one of the most objective pieces ever written about him. Anyway he wrote that Lance is a gifted athlete, but far from a nice guy. And most certainly not the saint the media portrays him as, which is why there is so much informal backlash. He’s like the Tom Cruise of the cycling world - protected by a heavily armed group of PR people who will crush any nay-sayers like a bug.
Uh, I gotta stop reading this posting. I hate athletes who are practically canonized when they’re not good people.

Yes, he did a lot for cancer charity, but that doesn’t make up for the fact that he is still arrogant and thinks he is the greatest man on earth. I can’t stand him.
