Salma Hayek Loses Most Of The Baby Weight
January 23rd, 2008 by Rian | Filed under Celebrity Weight Loss, Miscellaneous Celebrities, Celebrity Baby Weight.
Salma Hayek - who reportedly gave birth back in September - was recently spotted out for the evening, looking as though she has already lost most - if not all - of the baby weight!
So the question is, how did she lose the weight? Well, there is one story going around right now, but it sounds kind of outrageous. This website claims that Salma Hayek lost her baby weight by using a breast milk pump, since breast-feeding is known to help shed pregnancy pounds.
Salma Hayek is using an “industrial-size breast pump” to lose her baby weight, it has been claimed.
The ‘Frida’ actress, who gave birth to her first child Valentina Paloma last September, is resorting to extreme measures after friends told her breastfeeding is the best way to shed post-pregnancy pounds.
A friend of the actress said: “Salma has been pumping and freezing endless amounts of breast milk. When she’s not feeding Valentina, she’s hooked up to an industrial-size breast pump.”
I mean, is she serious? This is one of the weirdest post-baby weight loss methods I’ve heard yet.
What do you all think?

first
yeh thats a tad weird lol
she looks fabulous, and I’m SURE she’s not pumping for WEIGHT LOSS. She does it so that the NANNY can feed the baby when Salma is out.
So fucking stupid……..
I think she’s another Hollywood shithead who would be nowhere without her massive tits.
I can see that happening. I lost my baby weight from breast feeding.
who cares anyways, this girl is a penelope cruz wannabe and its not happening
It’s a good idea. She still looks big though.
I think Salma Hayek looks awesome. Shes someone who can pull off looking a bit biger than the averige hollywood women.
She is a gorgeous woman.
noneyobusiness, wasn’t Salma around the Hollywood scene before Penelope?
She’s stunning.
Salma Hayek is a gorgeous women who has a blessed fuller figure and pulls it off better then anyone! She looks wonderful, great bone structure!
As for the breast pump thing…hey whatever works right? lol
)
i agree with the earlier posts, if she is using a breast pump im sure its so she has extra on hand for when she’s not around
and she was famous before penelope cruz. i highly doubt she wants to look like her either considering salma has the ideal feminine body, and she seems very proud of it. penelope cruz looks like a boy
poops - Is there anyone you like just a smidgeon perhaps? Getting back to Salma - Gorgeous.
*extra milk on hand
Breast feeding or pumping releases hormones that allow a woman’s body to know that she is no longer pregnant. This increases weight loss and encourages the uterus to contract decreasing a stomach bulge post-pregnancy. Check out the studies reported on Wikipedia.
breast pumping and feeding does help the uterus go back into place faster and burns 500 more per day. but after a while…i mean you cant pump all day…if that’s so they might ask her to be a wet nurse!
Absolutely breast feeding is the BEST way to lose weight after having a baby! I am going to do the same thing….
She looks great.
She looks amazing.
Has the most perfectly hour glass figure I have ever seen on a woman.
Poops, jealousy much?
hey!!! i wanna know what poops said now!!!
Ha! Just watch the sale of breast pumps rise by 500%. Everyone loves a quick-fix solution to weight loss.
She looks about right for having had a baby in September. That dress would hide a multitude of sins too. She’s gorgeous regardless. The pump story is ridiculous.
This is TRUE! You can lose weight this way. My aunt is a nutritionist for lactating and prego women, she told me when I was BFing that you can lose more weight by pumping in addition to BFing…not to mention freezing and saving BM is a good idea anyway. Yay, she’s got some crazy weight issues herself, but she was/is damn skinny after having 3 kids.
good for her - she was as big as a house the last two months!
She is a truly beautiful woman. Over the years, we’ve seen her at a variety of weights but she always looks great.
Wait… what? An “industrial-sized” breast pump? What industry, exactly, would that be? Is there some secret woman-milking dairy industry that I never heard about?
Oh good, here we go with the “ideal body” garbage again. The “ideal” waist to hip ratio, according to studies, is 0.7. After hearing all the crap about 12 year old boys and what men really want on this website, I finally broke down and measured my waist and hips, just to see how far off I was. You see, I’ve always considered myself painfully straight up and down. To my surprise, I discovered that my ratio is 0.7. Ideal in this culture, according to studies on men’s preferences. To me this means that the Kim Kardashians of the world just have huge asses, and the general public is very misinformed/delusional about what the ideal ratio actually LOOKS like.
By the way, I think Salma Hayek is gorgeous. But I also think lots of less volutptuous women are gorgeous too.
And FYI, the range dips to .6 in parts of asia and .9 in parts of south america and africa.
She is truly a voluptous gal and is lookin’ good. I’ve heard that nursing does accelerate the weight loss and I used to work with a lady that used a pump so the baby had plenty when mom wasn’t home.
Yeah, I’m with Suzy… secret breast milk industry where they keep women tied into industrial sized breast pumps that pump out gallon/hour…?
she is one of those women that looks good with a few extra pounds on..
What limiting “ideal” is being referenced in making these narrow-minded comments? Who makes that determination?
To most of you here, there seem to be only two types of women: the “12-year-old boy” and the “womanly” one, with no “wiggle” room (literally and figuratively).
To use an old cliche, variety is the spice of life. Get your minds out of the salt shakers and pepper mills, for f*ck’s sake.
humm..good idea!! I’ll keep that in mind.
=)
And you’re right nicky… she exactly that kind of woman…
just like beyonce and J-lo.
She’s pumping so the nanny can feed the baby when she’s not around. I’m not sure that bf-ing helped me that much with weight loss. I had to exercise it off.
She looks fabulous!
She looks so HOT and GORGEOUS in these pics…. Absolutely stunning! Motherhood seems to agree with her… and I guess being engaged to a Billionaire helps too!
I can see where the “ideal” references come from. It’s history, it’s art, it’s what makes men drool involuntarily. But men are (a little bit) smarter than what we give them credit for. Men aren’t going to get out their tape measures and calculators; they can sense when a woman is fit, healthy, and confident. And that may or may not coincide with the “ideal” hourglass body.
I just HATE when “ideal”, “curvy”, “healthy”, get thrown around when a woman’s “curves” are saddlebags, love handles, and a 30″ heart disease inducing waist.
As for Salma- absolutely gorgeous. She could make women drool.
It’s definitely possible to lose the weight. My cousin is breastfeeding constantly and weighs 15 lbs less than she did before she got pregnant. Makes me want to have one
Looks amazing. And its smart to freeze breast milk for when you won’t be around to feed your baby!
this might be stupid but how exactly does breast feeding burn off calories??
it’s weird, Selma gained a ridiculously large amount of weight. i heard she had some sort of diabetes
oh lordie here we go.. whats the ideal shape bla bla bla…the way i see it i am the ideal shape with every other human being who isn’t obese/underwieght and hasn’t resorted to surgery/too much botox because of vanity
she is hiding her fat under that dress but so what she was never a stick thin actress
she has also worked hard to achieve her current status which is based on more than just her natural assets
ok ladies i don’t wanna breast feed it just sort of grosses me out (clearly i am lacking some sort of maternal gene, i know) but does it really make that much of a difference? should i do it?
Selma is absolutely gorgeous and so talented - one of those actors who probably got recognition for her talents, DESPITE her gorgeous figure.
Poops…very very harsh. Very harsh.
What’s with the ideal figure discussion? I’m sure there’s an ideal ratio for breeding purposes, but men like women in all shapes and sizes. That said, I can’t imagine too many men saying no to Selma.
i think she looks great… her boobs are MASSIVE but then again that happens after childhood. hers are real and i envy her because they always look great. and hey i’m totally hetero, just jealous.
anyway, yeah ive heard of that before… i can tell u dont have kids, hehe.
I remember reading somewhere that breast feeding can help a woman loose up to 500 calories a day. So there is some definite truth to what Salma’s doing.
Yeah, I was wondering if she would be able to lose the weight. I remember seeing her when she was almost due and though, ‘holy crap! who is that? salma hayek!? how is she ever going to lose weight?”
good for her!
Mouse, I totally agree with you. My boyfriend really REALLY doesn’t like big boobs. At all. Some guys won’t look at a girl without them. My point was every time there’s a super big-boobed big hipped girl to discuss, a certain set of the commenters rave about how this is what a man wants- it is “Ideal”. So I did some research, and discovered that waist:hip ratio they rave about is really not what they seem to think. I guarantee if I put a picture of myself up I’d get a lot of “12 year old boy! No waist at all!” But the truth is, my ratio is technically “ideal”. So is Alessandra Ambrosio’s, and that’s the type of comment she got too.
But just for the record, my official stance is that the actual ideal totally depends on the guy you are talking to. Although I still maintain that “curves” means T&A to a guy and “I can have an extra 30 pounds of flab” to a girl.
Jane,
If you weren’t already sold on breastfeeding, I doubt this will make any difference. But:
1. It is proven to help the bonding process between mother and child.
2. It DOES burn many extra calories.
3. Your breast milk is GOOD for your baby. It contains immunoglobulins (fight off illnesses) that your baby needs because his/her immune system is not yet fully developed. Not breastfeeding puts your baby at a greater risk for sickness.
If you can breastfeed, you probably should. UNLESS: you’re a smoker, drug abuser, alcoholic, or very unhealthy. Then maybe not. By the way, I’m not a mother, so I don’t know a lot about all the difficulties some women have with breastfeeding. All of my advice is from the scientific perspective.
I hope I look that fabulous at 40 years of age after squirting out a child.
I know a girl who actually looks emaciated now after toom uch breast feeding!that pregnancy weight gain is mostly bcz of water retain, baby and milk!
She looks great. She’s always been gorgeous though, she has a very beautiful face.
Jane,
Aside from passing on to your baby the antibodies that your body has had a lifetime to acquire, breast milk also contains certain complex sugars- they used to be considered useless, since babies can’t digest them. Now we know that harmful bacteria inside a baby’s intestines latch on to these sugars and are whisked out of the baby. Beneficial bacteria, on the other hand, aren’t affected and remain inside.
There was also a study in which researchers studying breast milk switched from using healthy cells to using cancerous ones. They had to stop, because the breast milk KILLED the cancer cells. I haven’t followed up, not sure what happened..
Breast milk has been evolving for millions of years- why anyone would willfully choose powder in a can is absolutely beyond me.
Cows milk is for baby cows. Human milk is for human babies.
The reason it helps you lose weight is because the body is working as it should. That’s why we gain weight during pregnancy in the first place - to make sure we have stores with which to feed our babies when they are born.
She needs to pump to maintain the milk supply. the body only produces what the baby demands. If the baby is with a nanny and Salma is not feeding her for longer than about four hours, then the supply diminishes. so you have to pump to keep the supplies up.
Not wanting to lecture about the joys of breastfeeding (which by the way is all true, in my experience), but it’s extremely practical, cheap and always available in a sterile container at exactly the right temperature. Which any mother would appreciate when you have a screaming hungry baby and are in the movies or the mall.
In my experience, if everybody breastfed their babies, nobody would ever have trouble losing the baby weight. that’s what it’s for.
Its VERY true…you burn 500 more calories a day when you nurse…I weighed 157 when I gave birth to a 9 pound baby and 5 weeks later i weighed 109…I was floored at how quickly I lost the weight, but its nature’s way
Minnie - thanks for posting about the extra pumping. It’s a fairly common occurrence for women to breastfeed AND pump. As you mentioned, if you are not with your child 24/7, pumping and freezing the milk will allow a nanny (or hubby) to feed the baby. If your milk supply is a bit low, you may need to pump to increase your milk supply, or the baby doesn’t feed enough to drain both breasts, you’ll need to pump in order to not feel very uncomfortable.
An “industrial” breast pump is basically anything OTHER than the junky $20 manual breast pumps they sell at Target. Something like a Medela or Ameda - good quality pumps.
andrea - I liked your comment and completely agree with you. What is the supposed ideal ratio?
I think people say “ideal” and “curves” so that those “full-figured” women will feel good about themselves in a skinny world.
thanks ladies!! it still freaks me out but i may give it a shot whenever that day comes! xoxo
Wow, I am impressed by the pro-BFing posters. Good info!!
she’s got perfect curves. she’s smokin!
Selma is adoreable and I don’t believe this article for a second.
Whatever…her ex is my husband now so it’s all good
;)
“cows milk belongs to cows”
that supiciously sounds like vegan talk
I agree that the method works, I lost by breastfeeding my pregnancy-weight, 15 kg in 2 weeks!!t as he was awfully hungry first month and I had to feed him in every 2 hours or so. Body used so much energy for producing the milk during that time and so it took all my fat away.
i’m going to lose weight after pregnancy that way too.
Actually she’s had help with her boobs and her nose, but she was beautiful before that.
salma is gorgeus!
This woman looks unbelievable. I have been in wild love with her for many years.
As for the industrial breast pump question, what they are referring to is the kind of breast pump hospitals and health units have on hand when women have twins and triplets, to increase milk production.
They are just more intense than a breast pump you would by at a drug store.
cows milk is for baby cows is the sweetest thing i’ve heard all day
cheers Minnie.
I don’t think it’s true.
She looks wonderfully good though.
Breastfeeding is good for your baby and you, but its a personal choice.
It also does burn lots of calories, and speeds up your metobolism, the down side is you are not supposed to diet at all the first few weeks after baby is born or it may effect how your milk comes in….
It’s not weird at all. It’s actually very very normal. Do you know how often a newborn baby eats? Usually every 2 hours, or some will eat every one hour. So it’s definitely not unusual, it’s normal to use a breast-pump very frequently because the milk is used so frequently. And perhaps she’s not using her breast directly to feed, which means even more frequent use of the pump. So, I can totally believe she lost all of her baby weight…. breast-feeding/breast-pumping burns an unseen amount of calories! And it’s the best thing for your baby. It’s not often that when something sounds to good to be true, is actually true!
andrea and jodi, love yor posts and I totally agree with you both.

they’d have to take something to lactate first. That would be the diet plan. Just pumping will only make your nipples sore.
she looks great and I am doubting she pumps to loss the weight. It’s so she can go out and someone else can feed the baby?
actually stimulation of the nipple can lead to lactation. It triggers a reflex to produce milk. So can certain kinds of birth control. I know this from personal experience and from physiology class. I don’t know how much milk you could actually produce, but you can produce some.
I was to pumping like crazy but not for loosing weight but to feed the baby at night (my husband) and to be able to go to any place without worrying of the milk going out….. besides it is healthiest for the baby and lasts a lot in the fridge.
A little tangent…
Just to note, not everyone loses weight from breastfeeding. With both my son and my twins I lost all my weight AFTER I weaned them. This is often the case if you don’t have a good milk supply. My son I nursed around the clock and at his 1 month appointment he was barely at his birth weight. The pediatrician told me I must supplement with formula. Even adding a couple of formula bottles a day, I still nursed him for 13 months and all my weight dropped off after I weaned him. With my twins I pumped 6-8 times a day (getting only maybe 1-2 ounces total each time) and again I lost all the weight when I stopped at 8 months. So as far as breastfeeding goes, not everyone loses weight while doing it and not everyone can do it successfully. I have many friends that have experienced this. It is the best choice, but not always as easy as everyone make sit out to be.
If you can breast feed than you should, that’s my policy. But don’t beat yourself up if you can’t.
Had to laugh about the “industrial-size breast pump” … well, she did almost have industrial size breast when she was pregnant…
Perhaps she isn’t pumping to lose weight. Perhaps she’s actually pumping to feed her newborn child. Hmmmm…what a concept.
She looks absolutely BEAUTIFUL…GORGEOUS! Such shiney hair! So healthy-looking!
everyone ive ever known to breast feed says she lose tons of the weight by doing so. i know someone who’s done both breast feeding and formula feeding, and it was proven that she lost the weight when breast feeding and not nearly as much with the formula feeding. lol.
i think selma is gorgeous i love her especially in frida. but… perhaps being hooked up to an industrail pump sucking all the bodily fluid out of yourself constantly is a bit extreme? i mean, is she going to freeze so much breast milk that she’ll have left-overs for the next kid?
it def depends on body type, but I lost a ton of baby weight (and some) from pumping milk for my daughter. The thing with pumping rather than breast feeding is that you have to do it more frequently to ensure a continuous supply of milk. So Salma may not be using the pump as a weight loss tool but I’m sure its played a huge part in her post baby weight loss.
Ew.
yeah my sisters pregnant and she got a breast milk pump at her baby shower, its handy so you have it on hand…and its good for 6 months if you freeze it. plus breast milk is better for the baby.
here is one who looks good no matter how fat or skinny she might get. i just love her
