I have noticed something after seeing thousands of Hollywood it girls posing for photographers: the extremely skinny ones - like Thandie, Nicole Richie and Ashlee Simpson, for example - don’t do the “hands on hips, suck it all in” pose. Instead they pose with their arms against their sides and offer up a lot of back and side shots.
The not-so-skinny celebrities and the ones who want to appear skinnier do the hands-on-hips thing…
Anyone else notice this? (I know I have brought this up in a previous post).

I never noticed the posing thing. I don’t pay enough attention.
Her posture looks awful. It doesn’t matter how skinny you are, you should always stand up straight.
I don’t think the hands on the hip thing is necessarily true. I suppose at some point every woman does it (there are only so many ways to pose for a picture). At any rate, Thandie is gorgeous and there is no question or debate about that.
Those skinny celebrities always look like they are a bit frightened of whatever. They never look REALLY confident, relaxed and happy.

She´s beautiful, but the dress was a terrible choice…
She looks great, and while a lot of people may hate on the dress, I think she somehow manages to make it work. I think the color looks fab on her, and she’s thin enough that the ruffles and poofiness of the dress aren’t unflattering as they would be on someone larger.

Ashlee Simpson always poses with her hands on her hips and Nicole Richie+ Paris Hilton basically trademarked the pose

Skinny celebrities really make that hunch-ish back pose and legs crossed, arms against their body. Probably because they’re not confident, they want to hide.

i like thandie and her style but this is just foul oh i do hope she doesn’t pass on her ED history to her kids
I’ve noticed that, too. My theory is that the skinny ones are less self-conscious of their bodies and just let their arms fall kind of naturally. The heavier ones seem to make a big-ass deal about sucking it all in and doing the hands on hip thing. Their poses are more elaborate and contrived than the slimmer stars’ poses.

Think she is gorgeous…and yeah, she is a petite girl with delicate & fragile- looking “feautures”. Wasn’t she in the TV show ER for ahwile in some of the shows?? Did she play a love interest for Dr. Carter? (Noah While?) Anyway, didn’t realize she is pregnant…she already has 2 daughters doesn’t she?? (She must not be too far along?) Yeah, I, too, hope she doesn’t pass along her ED issues to her daughters (as someone else mentioned)!
sometimes people pose with a hand on there hips without even thinking about it. other times there trying to. really skinny people do. normal people do it. bigger people do it. just about everyone does it at least once ya know?

I agree about her dress, but I love the shoes!
My theory is that the ones that are really skinny are all hunched up because they’re cold. When you don’t have a lot of meat on your bones, you are ALWAYS cold. Plus, they probably don’t have a lot of body confidence in the first place.
I hate that dress. It looks like a flamingo barfed on her.
Arms look thinner when they are straight at your sides, with your elbows turned away from your side.
People think that having your hands on your hips makes your arms look longer and slimmer, but they dont. You can see the fat undernear the arms when you do that.
I know this from experience…… whenever I’m in pictures I keep my arms at my sides with my elbows pointing away from me. Works like a charm.
It looks like she has gained some weight. She looks good body-wise. She looks like she’s wearing curtains, though.

Sometimes being skinny is just being skinny. It’s not always some Shakespearian tragedy SPECTRA.

One of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. Her skin is perfection. She actually looks a little fuller in these pics than I’ve seen her in the past, which is nice. She tends to appear too thin.
spectra you made me laugh out loud. touche darlin’. i agree that women who are thin do not feel the need to pose that way all the time- bigger women do because its obviously visually slimming and ESPECIALLY when they’re insecure about their arms.. it without a doubt thins bigger arms down instantly. I, however, thinks its a pretty obvious “suck it all in because I feel quite chubby” pose and i dont think its pulled off very well for the most part. thats my opinion anyway. yet then again there are the skinnier girls who just simply pose that way like someone mentioned with nicole richie.

She looks better with some meat on her, but she’s got an enormous forhead, and though she’s not ugly by any means, I wouldn’t call her a real beauty either.
I usually can’t stand this woman… she usually looks so smug. But I can’t resist her here, smiling and looking happy, slim and healthy. The dress is a little frilly for my taste, but she pulls it off. It’s flattering and spring-y and she rocks the color.
I have to ask though, WTF kind of name is “Thandie”? I love unusual, diverse names, but that’s ridiculous. Did her mom have a cold, a lisp, and a cleft palate when she gave the hospital discharge personnel her baby’s name?

Suzy, I haven’t done a google search to double-check on this, but Thandie’s mom is actually an African woman. (Her dad is white)
Her birth name, Thandiwe is also African, and yes it’s unusual which is a great thing.

I suffer from anorexia, and I avoid the hands on the hips thing because it makes me look even more abnormal, with the hipbones sticking out and all.
