Carnie: I Gained 57 Pounds, Not 79!

I hate to say it, but this whole “Carnie Wilson weight gain” thing seems to reek of publicity. First off, she publicly announces to OK Magazine recently that she has gained weight and has hit rock bottom. Of course several of the tabloids picked up the story and skewed the numbers. Now… she gets angry about what the tabloids are saying and decides to go on-air to fight back?
Clearly a publicity stunt, and a bad one at that.
Anyway… Carnie went on Good Morning America yesterday to set the record straight about her weight gain. Unlike what the tabloids are saying, she claims not to have gained 79 pounds. Instead, she says she has gained 57 pounds and weighs 205.
The daughter of legendary Beach Boy Brian Wilson said today she weighs 205 pounds, a gain of 57 pounds.
“I have not gained 79 pounds. When I look at the picture of me prior to surgery and I see that face and I see that person, I’m so different from her today in so many ways,” said Wilson, who weighed more than 300 pounds before her surgery.
The singer shot down rumors that she would have surgery again to help her slim down.
“It’s so crazy. They’re saying I was going to get liposuction and have a second gastric bypass to have a baby. It’s laughable,” she said on “Good Morning America” today.
Honey, that’s what happens when you go public about weight gain… it just snowballs!
Here are a couple of recent pictures of Carnie Wilson - one of her out doing some walking for exercise, and the other just out and about.

i hope this doesn’t come out the wrong way: but i kinda don’t get how this happens. i mean, i know she had a kid and has been side-tracked by that… but she had to know when she was eating the wrong kinds of foods that she was on a slippery slope. it seems like food for her is sort of like alcohol or drugs for another person. you can’t have a couple of sips of vodka and think you’re under control… does that make sense?
i would think she obviously needs some mental help… and where is her husband or people who care about her to take the foods that tempt her out of the kitchen or to help her stay on track?
i do admire her coming forward about it, though. she’s at least smart enough to know that the paparazzi were going to notice and she cut off the whispers about it.
if she’s lucky she’ll get a nice weight-loss contract out of this from jenny craig or something.

I for one am tired of hearing about it. I sort of feel like she goes from one thing to the next… weight issues, alcohol addiction, some other addiction. Yes, that’s sad, but honey let’s get a grip… get some help once and for all, and quit boo-hoo’ing about it already. Can this woman ever talk about something positive??? Geez!!!

Fat people in the media always weigh more than what they say, and the skinny bitches most likely weight less. It’s how they justify their self-image: “ok, if only gained 57 pounds, not 79, then I can shovel another ding dong in my face and feel ok about it’.
And vice versa for the Olsen twins and the like: ‘ If I convince myself I’m a fat cow and a piece of lettuce is going to end my world; then I can maintain my sickly 90 pound figure…but tell everyone that I’m a 115 pound bitch that is naturally thin and eats everyday’
By thesnarkdc.blogspot.com on Mar 28, 2008 | Reply

breads, I am attracted to fat women. No, not all fat women, just the ones I happen to find . . . well, attractive. But while I can be PHYSICALLY attracted to a great deal of fat women, only a few are attractive in the holistic sense. Carnie Wilson, to me, is hot. Her poor relationship with diet and exercise is not. She seems to want to lose weight, but she lacks the willpower to do so. That, to me, is not attractive. Because of that, I would never date a woman like Carnie. Now, if Carnie Wilson was happy with her current size, exuded self confidence, and could proudly say: “I know I do not have the most healthful diet, but I love food, and I am happy with who I am,” then she would be holistically hot, like Nigella Lawson.
By Spectra on Mar 28, 2008 | Reply
This, IMHO, is actually a good thing for people who think that gastric bypass is the magical cure to make them skinny. It’s definitely NOT the easy way out and yes, you CAN regain the weight after having the surgery. The thing is, it’s a lot harder to do it, so Carnie must have REALLY been messing up to gain all that weight back. When you have that surgery, they tell you to eat a lot of lean protein and avoid sugary/calorie filled liquids (like those coffee drinks, booze, milkshakes, soda, etc.) My aunt’s boss had this surgery done and got down to about 140 lbs…then she started eating things like chips and soda and she’s now back up to 220 lbs. The surgery is STOMACH surgery, not brain surgery. People need to understand why they’re eating all that food before they get they’re stomachs stapled.

Danielle M. LOL! LOL!
I rememeber her bogus online surgery, that turned out to be some one else’s gut wrenching procedure.
She went on the Howard Stern show to talk about her skin tightening that she had done because she had lost soooo much weight. Her butt hole was actually higher when she went to wipe herself
Howard Stern pointed out that she had lost weight, but was still FAT! He was looking right at her and she still denied it!
Later that night, Carnie was wolfing down sushi so fast that she almost choked to death!
I just don’t understand how a person can gain weight when the stomach has been reduced in size.
Pet Peeve is right! She is owed a refund! Carnie was sold a cheap bill of goods!

why did she gain?
By hmmmm on Mar 28, 2008 | Reply
She got pregnant and had to eat more than usual, which slowly (or quickly) stretched her stomach and made her able to eat more food than post-surgery. Since she hadn’t made peace with her food issues, she just gained and gained. Didn’t she go on Celebrity Fit Club and have a hard time losing on there? I think it’s sad, but I also don’t like how she’s always going to the media about it.

Ask the Dr. for her money back? The risks and ramifications for this surgery would have been well explained to her. She understood that she would have to change her life style in order to have a successful outcome. She didn’t hold up her end of the deal. i agree there’s something silly about this - she talks to the tabloids who then write a story and then she gets mad - and who cares 80 versus 60 - whats 20 pounds when you’re already 50 pounds overweight
anyway this all just proves my point - you don’t need drastic dangerous surgery to lose weight!!! - just follow the post op diet and exercise plan and stick to it - a small stomach doesn’t mean anything if you’re still eating too many calories!
By angela on Mar 29, 2008 | Reply
I can never understand how people with gastric bypass gain that weight back. Not only does it reduce the size of your stomach, but completely changes how you absorb fat. If she was even just a little active, her calorie needs would be a little over 2000 calories a day to have stayed at her 150 or whatever lbs she was at. With a tiny tummy, and your body not absorbing fat right…. How on earth do you still gain that much? She must’ve been eating non stop. Yes, that’s mental not physical. Oh. One tip that always works…. Just put the fork down. Its not that hard.

Why the heck should she get her money back??? Her surgeon did his job, she just didn’t do hers. You gain weight even if you have a stomach the size of a walnut by eating every 5 minutes on high-calorie things (they call it “grazing”) and not working out enough. Most people who have this surgery done do admit that after about 6 months, they actually have to work a little bit to make the weight continue to come off. It’s definitely not some magic bullet to make you thin. IMHO, you shouldn’t even have the surgery done unless you’re one of those obese shut-ins that can’t even wipe their own behinds.

But I know when I was on prednisone and gained all that horrible weight, I was about 165 (I’m 5′8) and no one believed I was a size 14 (US) and said that I looked like a size 6 or 8. It’s because I’m tall. I weigh 120 now and a size 4 and everyone keeps asking me if I’m a size 0. It’s possible if you have a lot of muscle and heavy bone structure for you to look much smaller than you are, especially if you’re tall… but I don’t see how anyone could be over 200 and look 130. Each body is different, just because you weigh a certain weight doesn’t mean you wear the same size as someone that weighs the same.
I know people that weigh 215 and wear size 13/14, so to think they would wear a size 18-20 isn’t reality. It all depends on how you carry your weight and if you are toned or not.
And for the record, I am 5′8″, 140 lbs, size 7.

I feel bad for her, struggling with food issues is difficult enough without being under constant scrutiny. I think she’ll find a way to get back down to her post-surgery weight eventually and I hope she finds support to be healthier.
Also, to all the people who are saying that she is lying about her weight because you’re X pounds and look like Y, you need to realize that everyone carries their weight differently and you’re body is not indictive of what someone else’s body has to look like.

that’s the problem with the whole gastric bypass operation. people don’t learn to eat right and dont learn self control. instead they are forced to starve it off. so when the stomach stretches back out they are filling it to the rim once again. i think that operation should be only for people who are so fat they can no longer exercise. i lost 60 pound myself the “old fashioned” way, and since i worked my ass off, literally, i will think twice before pulling into the mcdonalds drive through, where someone who hasnt struggled to learn self control would. that being sad i know how it feels to be overweight and actually it’s embarrassing, i feel for her, hopefully she loses weight the healthy way this time and maybe she’ll keep it off forever.

Yeah? Not much of a difference in the figure. Overweight is overweight.

. . . . This goes to show everyone, Bariatric Surgery only treats the symptoms, not the cause. The true problem is inside. I hope she gets back on track.

I used to work at a gastric bypass clinic, and the other posters were correct: the patients sign numerous forms beforehand about the risks and responsibilities. At the clinic where I worked, they received nutrition and psychological counseling numerous times before and after the surgery. The patient’s actions are his/her own responsibility!
Actually, weight re-gain after the gastric bypass is a growing (no pun intended) issue. Compulsive eaters learn ways to circumvent the system. For example, they’ll binge on high calorie drinks or eat fat free ice cream. Those foods can be handled by their reduced stomach sizes (in the case of, for example, the Roux-en-x procedure.) They might eat small portions many, many times per day. For the individuals who have the stomach staples, they can slowly stretch their stomachs back to a larger size!
As for having to eat a lot more food during the pregnancy (as Carnie Wilson stated), I think she’s making excuses. In my current job, I have seen several pregnant post-gastric bypass patients, and neither of them have drastically increased their caloric intake. Their doctors told them to expect a lower birth weight baby though.
Carnie Wilson’s book seemed so inspirational too. On the basis of her book, I can’t believe she has let herself go!

Josh, are you a chubby chaser? It’s okay if you are.

LOL, Tim Jones. That’s just it. 65% of men see fat= bigger boobs. It’s a woman’s self-confidance that makes her attractive.
Sorry to sound like your mom, but its so true!
I’m not gonna lie, I would not feel ANY self-confidance @ her size. 59, 79 extra lbs= cow. Period.
I’m not usually so harsh, but its CLEAR she’s doing this for attention, and that just reeks. Some women ACTUALLY have weight problems, not self-discipline & lack of attention in their lives.

When you’re over 200 lbs, how much different do you look with an extra 20 lbs, really.
Watched her on celebrity fat club and she’s just full of excuses and lazy! She can’t control her eating or get off her lazy ass to excercise so she staples up her stomach only to have it stretch back out. Good job.

danceitup, yes, of course. I don’t have a rule of thumb, but I guess once the belly covers the v-a-g-i-n-a, the woman is too big for my liking.
WAY TMI, ROFL.
I agree with whoever said she looks like she weighs more than 205 pounds.

OMG you guys are cracking me up! I love this.
It drives me crazy when people have weight loss surgery and then put the weight back on. What was the point? They should be required to see a shrink for at least a year following surgery. Her issues are on the inside as well as the outside.
I know a couple of guys that love bigger women… big girls need love too. HA. One guy goes to a club here in Atlanta for big girls. Oh to be a fly on the wall at that club.

Many of you may be “skinny” with your disordered thinking and eating but you all are rotten on the inside..

if its 79 or 56 pounds doesn’t matter…the fact is its a huge amount og weight! and she needs to stop yelling at people for “exagerating” and lose it. she acting like gaining 56 lbs isn’t a bad thing, but 79 is!
Her doctor’s really should have said something…it would be unhealthy for a woman to gain too much weight while pregnant…regardless if she struggled with a weight issue in the past. But enough said…she needs to not worry about how much shes gained and focus on how much she NEEDS to lose!

Allison, I mean Carnie, is that you?
Actually I am quite ripe on the inside. Good blood pressure, good cholesterol, nice pretty lungs. I wasn’t aware my walking the dog and eating balanced meals -get this - when I’m hungry- was a disorder.

contrary to hayden panettiere, this woman is too fat. And I don’t mean that as an insult but a fact. I hope she can loose weight in a healthy way, because it’s not healthy to look like that.

hmmmm, I don’t want to scare you, but the part of your “stomach” that stretches from having a baby is not the same as the part that stretches when you put food into yourself.
Carnie & Oprah should go far, far away and quit milking their fat battles for publicity. I’ve heard enough of both for a lifetime

Actually Leah (Yes, FYI, any name is capitalized), ONLY America has an obesity epidemic. Name me ONE other country that does.
Yeah, I thought so.
