Do they giver her clothes that are unflattering on purpose? I don’t watch the show, so I wouldn’t know but this just makes her look awful.
she looks waaaaaay better than before!…She probably couldn’t get too skinny even if she wanted to because she’s under contract for Ugly Betty.
The wardrobe people have succeeded in making her look as stumpy as possible.
She’s overweight, but still looks strong — you can see muscle under the extra weight.

I think she’s lost weight, but I think she looks great now. I just hope she doesn’t pull a Nicole Richie and keep on losing weight. I think it shows to everyone esp. young girls that not everyone has a petite body and you shouldn’t force yourself unhealthily to have a “perfect body.”
I went to highschool with her and she has always been chubby

She looks amazing now. I remember when she was in the movie “Real Women Have Curves” or something and they did a few scenes where she had only a bra and underwear on. Not very attractive there.

I think she’s got a nice body, but those clothes are really horrific. The tight white baseball pants are really not helping her thighs much. I don’t think I’d ever wear pants like that…they’d make anyone’s thighs look monstrous.
I think it’s amazing she looks as good as she does in that outfit…. the outfit’s horrific! (But makes sense for her character.)
She looks good. She looks like she’s letting her body tell her what size she’s meant to be, and she’s listening.
I got really excited when I saw that she plays softball/baseball, then I realized she’s just acting. For a second I thought she was cool. I guess she’s pretty cool anyway, just not as cool as she would be if it were for real.

There has been a trend lately to hire fat people for the movies and TV shows. No, this woman is not average. She is fat. But, she plays the perfect part since she is naturally fat and ugly.

I’d say she could stand to lose a few..especially in the lower body. However I agree that, for whatever reason, she manages to pull it off at that weight. There’s something about her that still keeps her looking good despite her weight.

Well, I don´t hope for all the American people this is ´average´ because in my eyes, it isn´t fat, but it is overweight. Of course we all know that the average American is overweight with a BMI of 28, I believe.

I have the same build as her. I’m 5′4″ and 130, wear a size 6. I don’t think this is “fat” but I’d like to take 10 pounds off.
That outfit is totally unflattering, in normal clothes she’d look much better.
Male baseball players wear protective cups to cover their genitals. Female players must wear a camel toe simulator.
America can’t lose 10-15lbs. She’d probably lose her job b/c Ugly Betty wouldn’t be the lovable huggable girl, who is the opposite of what the magazine is trying to sell. She already has to wear padded costumes. Actually this photo is of her in an unflattering costume on the set. I mean do you see how thick those socks are to make her calves look bigger?
I do love that America has lost some weight since she did “real women have curves” so she looks healthier. But she hasn’t lost so much weight that she seems to be trying to fit someone else’s standards.
Thighs should not tough…period. For her thighs to be touching when her legs are spread so far apart (in the second picture), then she’s not thin.

you can always tell a chubby person by their head and feet. if both look very small in proportion to the body (which is the case for america), it’s time to lay off those cheeseburgers for a while.

I was looking her and her co-star Becky Newton (”Amanda”) up on IMDB and they are just an inch apart it height. “Betty” is 5′2, “Amanda” is 5′1 and they have terribly different bodies. It just goes to show that we are all built differently. I myself am 5′3 and am much closer to America’s body type than I ever will be to Becky Newton. It is nice to know that my body type is represented out there, even if people still think we’re a bit chubs and we ourselves think we are too, but hey, we can still look good and rock our curves! Just not in softball uniforms =0
I just don’t get most of you people. America represents most of America (US). And yet, it’s so amazing how overweight and above people want to see stick-thin people on TV. That’s not normal! Go for a walk and while you burn some fat, take a look around. You’re not gonna see size 0 girls with perfect make-up and designer clothes. That’s not the real life. America is an actress, her job is acting, not looking the way you want her to look.
It’s not the media’s fault that everyone looks like a cover girl, let it be a CSI, an FBI agent, a lab rat, a doctor, or an ever-so desperate housewife. Supply and demand. Good job, people who are good at nothing else but critisizing. If the cap fits, wear it.
She’s in character, so she’s doing what she’s supposed to do: look goofy cute and chunky. She pulls it off. I love this show. She’s much less weighty in real life, and as others have mentioned, she’s padded for the role. She’s lost weight since the start of the show. What is seen here may be the average American female build, but it’s not very attractive, it’s frumpy,that’s why she is padded to look this way.

She is NOT overweight and does NOT need to lose any weight. Not everyone is meant to be stick skinny. She looks like a normal woman!
You know what, I don’t like chunky but it works great for her. Here’s a woman, unlike, say, Kelly Osborne, who is not trying to look thinner by dressing wrong, who does not hold her body awkwardly, and who wears herself well. I really like that she is comfortabale in her own skin. She looks great.

Since I’m not from America I might be wrong, but here in Australia all I see on the news about America is how over 60% of the population is obese, so what are you all talking about when you say that she’s not an average weight? The average size for women these days is an Aus. size 14, so wake up and realise that not everybody looks good thin.

How is this OVERWEIGHT??? You people have severely skewed ideas of what a healthy weight is. I hate to break it to you but this is normal! No, not thin but not fat either. For a celebrity she looks big but that’s just because everyone else is underweight or on the very low end of normal. She is probably in the middle to the higher end of normal.

I agree with the other people that are not from the United States… The USA has the highest obesity rating yet you come here and say that this is a fat woman. That’s just not right. I read somewhere that the average American BMI is 28.0… she does not have a BMI of 28.0!

SupermodelSuzie: Most healthy women would not be able to get their thighs so thin that they don’t ever touch without becoming underweight. Nicky Hilton thighs are NOT a feature of a healthy body! Unless a woman has the body of a 10-year-old boy, her thighs will touch when she stands with her legs together. Would you call Reese Witherspoon, Heather Locklear, Lindsay Lohan, or Ashlee Simpson fat? Check out the pics of them from the last few days…guess what? Their thighs touch! You have a screwed up image of what a healthy body looks like. Good luck with that.

That’s ridiculous, Sanne. Everyone always says that the U.S. is the fattest country in the world because it has become hip and cliche, but look up the facts. It definitely is not. Even Canada has a higher BMI. The problem with the U.S., in my opinion, is that there are probably a lot more people who are eating disordered in one way or the other- society these days is becoming polarized between the obese and the anorexic (or, to be more fair, the over weight and underweight). Very few people in the U.S. today are just “healthy.” That’s the U.S.’s problem, but it’s not the highest BMI country by any means. Seriously, look it up.

BMI standards varies country to country, try using references from the World Heath Organization Website. I do applaud those of you who have posted positives about America’s body.
Katy, Me, Sil and Mars in Velvet really need to learn how to form an opinion and see other than what the Media wants you to see. For example: Take away the props for making her fit her ugly betty role. Give her a nose job, Add a supportive bra and a figure hugging dress that covers her knees and you’ve got a younger Salma Hayek.

im sorry but i wish she would lose the weight. at least down to size 6. im the kind of person dat likes fitness and exercise and she just needs to work out more. i hope she doesnt eat fast food tho every week. other than that, shes all good wit me.
