Stars’ Secret Diets

July 7th, 2008 by Rian | Filed under Celebrity Diets, Miscellaneous Celebrities, Tabloid Magazines, Celebrity Exercise.

US Weekly is running a cover story in their current issue that reveals a few celebrity diet and exercise tips. I have summed up some of the article highlights and included some photos (not brand new, but all taken within that last couple of weeks) for you all…

Jennifer Aniston likes to order salad in the various restaurants she goes to. For instance, at L.A.’s Sunset Tower, she enjoys their grilled chicken paillard and baby greens. For exercise, she does two-hour yoga and Pilates sessions and works out on the elliptical from time to time. If that isn’t enough, she does anti-cellulite treatments at the spa and drinks special herbal teas that help with bloating and abdominal fat.

Wow. That’s a lot of work to stay slim and toned!

Gwyneth Paltrow also works very hard to keep slim. After two children, she sweats it out for two hours a day on various exercise machines and doing dance aerobics. She does not eat meat and settles for organic fruits and veggies and various other foods.

Rihanna cuts carbs when she wants to shed a few pounds or tone up. As I remember writing about in a previous article, she sticks to fish, chicken, hard-boiled eggs and pineapple when dieting. She also has a strict trainer who makes her run and do strength-training.

Lo Bosworth (from The Hills) has reportedly lost 8 pounds since January simply by ditching her beer-and-pizza diet. Nowadays she eats whole-grain toast and scrambled egg whites, salad with chicken and fish with veggies, and other healthy meals. She does twice-weekly hour long sessions with an L.A. trainer and hikes in Runyon Canyon.

Some of the others mentioned in this article are Cindy Crawford, who sticks to a strict diet year-round of protein, veggies and occasional whole grains. Carrie Underwood shed 20 pounds by tracking calories in a notebook. She also hits the elliptical machine for 30 minutes and lifts weights for exercise.

Anne Hathaway, who we all know has gotten super skinny recently, confessed that for “a movie role” (we all know which one!) she worked out for two hours a day and basically “ate nothing”.

    Thanks for posting this!

  2. lola | 7/07/08

    first?

  3. Jodi | 7/07/08

How is eating organic fruits and vegetables (Gwenyth Paltrow) “settling”?

  4. chev | 7/07/08

i love these posts. it is always interesting to know what the skinny celebs do to get that way.

i personaly think that Gwyneth Paltrow diet is the best one

  5. h_valentine | 7/07/08

Interesting…I wonder how true these stories are? At least they sound a little less typical than the “diet secrets” the gossip mags usually post.

  6. saintdevil | 7/07/08

I rather eat what I like and work out about three times a week and have my pretty slim and nice body than do all that work to have a perfect one.

  7. AnnieJ | 7/07/08

All sounds good to me. The key is finding what works for you and sticking with it. I hate exercising, but it is a must.

  8. sarah | 7/07/08

geee-lean protein and veggies-never heard that one before :P

  9. meagain | 7/07/08

i wish i had 2 hours a day to workout! i have to squeeze in my 1 hour.. only for 4 days a week!

while i commend Lo for the weight she has lost… i don’t see how she made it into this article. 8 lbs in 6 months isn’t very good… if she were following her “diet” as laid out, she would have lost alot more than 8 lbs!

  10. your mom | 7/07/08

Well, at least you’re not scanning the articles directly from the magazines onto the blog anymore.

But d*mned if you don’t repeatedly come as close to a copyright infringement liability as possible, eh?

[yeah yeah, fair use, just reporting facts, etc., thanks first year law students]

  11. Cossey | 7/07/08

I’ve got a diet for them!!!

  12. katya | 7/07/08

idk, i never believe it when celebs “reveal” their diet secrets, a lot of the their secrets are just common sense things or basic diet tips

  13. rika | 7/07/08

good post i love these. wow that makes me feel better about myself a little, because i definately dont put that kind of time or effort in but good for them i wish i was that desciplined. although im sure it would be a little easier being that disciplined if you made big $ for it…still i commend their hard work.

  14. Petal | 7/07/08

My eating habit is similar to Lo Bosworth, except the egg whites. I eat my eggs whole. Also, I work-out a little more than she does.

  15. tilly | 7/07/08

Rihanna is the most vile celebrity to date. Her body is so awfully disgusting.

  16. Rian | 7/07/08

your mom, thanks for the legal advice, but I have an actual lawyer (with years and years of experience) who advises me. I am not breaking any copyright laws and am not even close to it. ;-)

  17. rae-lynne | 7/07/08

thanks for the post! Jennifer Aniston in my opinion looks the best… and seems the have it the worst for exercise. Wouldn’t be nice to have a personal trainer/cook and not to mention all the money they blow on looking this way. I am not at all dissing. I would be doing the same thing if I could =)

  18. b.SL | 7/07/08

Rock on, saintdevil. That’s my goal.
This article makes me understand why Gwyneth Paltrow & Jennifer Aniston never look happy. Fat&happy trumps skinny&miserable in my book. But I guess in Hollywood, when your face isn’t that great, then you have to keep the body right…
I am glad that Aniston admitted to anti-cellulite treatments. Stop pretending like cellulite isn’t natural to (some) women! They all have some secret.

  19. mars in velvet | 7/07/08

well its no secret that they work their asses off and eat healty stuff to keep slim.. i don’t buy the whole “i eat everything, i’m naturally thin” bullsh*t. i’m glad none of them said anything like that

  20. ihatefamousppl | 7/07/08

geez your mom…you should be thanking Rian for saving us money on US weekly..we got all the good stuff straight from this website. magazines add up..i should know i’m addicted to them

  21. Elaine | 7/07/08

It’s all so simple but we can’t help but read it over and over. I’m guilty of always reading this stuff.
It’s basically eat less and workout more.

  22. ihatefamousppl | 7/07/08

p.s. i thought lo bosworth looked like she actually gained weight…makes sense b/c lauren conrad and her are bff and lc looks like she gained recently…too much partying together?

  23. bella | 7/07/08

jennifer aniston does not look so thin these days..gwyneth has a great body and rihanna is beautiful but def not a skinny girl…the others who care?

  24. christy | 7/07/08

jen was much thinner in some of the friends days, but she looks a lot healthier and more normal now. it would suck to have your ex dating angelina jolie. that would put me on an ice cream binge…..

  25. sandie | 7/07/08

“Rihanna is the most vile celebrity to date. Her body is so awfully disgusting”. What??????? Are you blind? Rihanna has a great body.

  26. terri | 7/07/08

Anyone know what kind of tea helps with abdominal fat?

  27. louisemiller | 7/07/08

i love when you do these round ups of the diet articles, i dont have to read them in line at the store! :)

  28. Shea | 7/07/08

It’s nice to hear celebs say it takes hard work and dedication instead of the old “good genes” and “oh I eat a ton!” crap.

  29. meagain | 7/07/08

    RE: b.SL
    ” Fat&happy trumps skinny&miserable in my book”

i’m sorry, but Fat&happy= heart problems & an early death in my book…. :-s

2 hours a day? I’m so jealous of celebrities sometimes, mostly they don’t have year-round jobs and have long days but still time to workout. I workout 90-100 min. a day, unless I’m on vacation but I still make sure I do an hour or so then. 2 hours yoga or pilates is a long time though! I only do 30 or 40 min usually, and then cardio.

Also, I’d much rather have Cindy Crawford’s diet than Rihanna’s (well actually, I already do). Keeping to something year-round consistently will make you feel much better than dieting.

Anne Hathaway… did she mean the devil wears prada or get smart? I’m guessing the first but she looked good in both.

  32. Spectra | 7/07/08

Well, it’s about FREAKIN’ time that at least some of the celebrities are being honest about how much they really have to work at being thin. I’ve had it up to here with them saying “I eat pizza all the time and I barely workout” when everybody KNOWS most of them eat lettuce and celery and work out 2 hours a day.

  33. Coco | 7/07/08

    Jen looks great, as usual.

Gwynnie is looking FAR better with a few more pounds on her. She has a bit more sex appeal now.

Rihanna is slightly more curvy. I wouldn’t want to be any bigger than her. Dodgy outfit.

Dont know Lo Boswoth, but her body looks fine. Cant really tell in her baggy vest top

  34. Frankie | 7/07/08

but still I DO know some really skinny girls who basically eat everything they want and never change or gain a pound!!and NO they are not bullimic.

  35. bloated pms girl | 7/07/08

    cossey i love u haha

most of the celebs are on the coke diet so let’s not kid ourselves.

  36. elyse | 7/07/08

anything i eat that ISN’T a fruit of vegetable is a splurge for me. you don’t have to count calories if all you eat is produce. gwyneth paltrow seems like one of the only celebrities who is informed about nutritional information to integrate into her weight maintenance.

  37. Megan | 7/07/08

Well when you have money, you somehow have the time to spend two hours working out. Gee I wonder how that is.

  38. lambman | 7/07/08

for once these seem honest, well except Anne who is way skinner now than ever before.

Rhianna is like 19, she will be bigger than Beyonce in like 3 years Beyonce is also bottom heavy and was way slimmer at that age

  39. Sian | 7/07/08

Anne actually said that she was eating almost nothing.

  40. Victoria | 7/07/08

basically, working out for 2 hours a day would keep most anyone thin. but as it’s been said, if you have a normal job that isn’t possible. it IS their job to look good!

  41. Hannah | 7/07/08

I can’t believe Anne Hathaway eats “like, nothing.” That is stupid and unhealthy and I hope she realizes this. I don’t want her to be a role model for a bunch of young girls … to think, I used to admire her for her intelligence …

  42. Web Escape | 8/07/08

You can kind of tell Jennifer Aniston works hard because her natural shape is nothing like that, so fair play, she deserves the body she has.

  43. Raven | 8/07/08

2 hrs to work out?! Who can afford that luxury? But yeah, if there’s anything these diets have in common, it’s the need to MOOOOOVE :)

  44. nhana | 8/07/08

I think all of the others girls’ diets seems healthy, and diets I would go for myself - but Gwyneth has such a strange routine! Everytime I read an article about her she is banning som kind of new food. No meat and nothing with milk whatsoever…then whats left except for fruit and vegetables?

  45. Jodi | 8/07/08

Raven, I work out for two hours. It’s not a luxury. I just wake up really early to accommodate it. :-D

  46. Bee | 8/07/08

Thanks for posting this. Jodi, there is no way I could wake up at 4am to work out from 4 to 6. I’d have to go to bed as soon as I got home from work!

  47. s | 8/07/08

2 hours a day is not that hard even if you work and go to school, get up earlier or go to the gym after work, 2 hours out of your whole day is not that hard for most people they just don’t want to do it.

web escape - how is that not jennifer aniston’s natural shape, she’s always been super thin even on the first season of friends. she might have to work harder now that she’s not in her 20s but she’s always been petite.

  48. Teed | 8/07/08

first year law? get over yourself.

  49. Tigah Lily | 8/07/08

Um, whoever said they don’t have to watch what they eat when they eat produce is a little misinformed. EVERYTHING HAS CALORIES! just sayin’.
and lay off anne. it’s her JOB. a kinda effed up one that promotes unhealthy lifestyles at times with unrealistic expectations of body wieght and appearance, but it’s how she gets paid and is able to work out for two hours more conveniently than the rest of us. Working out for two hours in the late morning or early afternoon is WAAAAAAAAY easier than waking up at 3 or 4 am in my case or waiting till after a LONG day at work to go home and go straight to the gym to work out when all you wanna do is unwind.

BOTTOM LINE: PERFECT BODY is NOT EASY! IN SHAPE IS NOT *THAT* EASY! But both are attainable with the right discipline

  50. Duvessa | 8/07/08

I believe those stories there. Despite what so many here seem to think (are you all under 25?) it is NOT easy to maintain the Hollywood body ideal. It takes, on average, 2 hours a day in the gym, 5 days a week and a VERY restrictive diet. There is no getting around it for most people….let’s face it, the difference between these celeb types and the fat chicks at the mall is a lot of hard work! Not everyone in Hollywood is a genetic miracle of slimness

  51. kylie | 8/07/08

Every quote of Gwyneths that I read she is bragging about her excersize habits. 2 hours a day is pretty intense. she tries to project an image that she is so natural and down to earth (i mean her children are named apple and moses), yet she kills herself in the gym everyday for two hours? All I have to say is.. I’m pretty sure Gwyneth has a really big crush on Gwyneth.

  52. coke zero | 8/07/08

    Lo looks chubby

  53. Katie | 8/07/08

Haven’t you ever heard of Veganism? It’s actually the healthiest way to live, and she isn’t even cutting out everything my saying she doesn’t eat meat. It’s healthier to live like that.

  54. coke zero | 9/07/08

yeah and what is this special tea m- i’ll drink it
and is that audrina behind lo- looks like her teeth..

  55. JKristina | 9/07/08

whatever. These stupid bithces from the hells…sorry the HILLS are all overweight. They dont deserve any attention :-)

  56. Holly | 11/07/08

I mos def would not want to look like Lo!
