Yes, this is true. It’s too bad he’ll be confined to the fat funny guy role unless he loses weight. But whatever. It’s not fair that he can get roles and fat women can’t.
It is such a double-standard, you’re right. In some cases, a fabulous personality/sense of humor can make up for the extra pounds, but in some cases (um, this one), sorry, it’s just gross.

IDK about not getting as many roles: what about Monique? Or Queen Latifah? I think its all about how comfortable you are with your body and what you want to portray. You can’t be fat & sexy (in Hollywood, usually) but hell- in both cases of the actresses above, they get the fine men, so that’s all that matters!
Grrrr re: the moderated thing. Why? I read the rules, and I’m a good person who doesn’t say bad things! Annoying… it’s called the first amendment…..
the first amendment only applies when the government is restricting your speech, not a private citizen.

I absolutely positiviely adore him. (and the eye candy comment as well as alot of the other comments are very rude). Physical attractiveness only gets ya so far people. this guy nails every role he plays - he’s freakin hilarious! I have read that he is trying to lose weight because he is aware of how unhealthy this is for him.
It is true that if this was a female, she would be type-cast as the fat side-kick friend, etc. How often do men get ripped apart for their weight and looks the way that women do? No wonder women are so self-conscious, they get attacked from both sides–guys who think women should look like skeletor and women who are cruel and hateful.
If there was a woman of that size on here you people wouldn’t be saying half the things you’re saying about him, i.e: “gross”.

I agree with not being able to find any other roles other than being the fat funny guy. I don’t think he’s very talented as an actor… but that’s only because he’s only been in the same few roles.
He’s hilarious in Superbad… but he needs to lose weight! He looks really unhealthy, and it looks like he might have gained even more recently! Seriously, being that weight is terrible for your health.

how is thinking that someone’s, who is OBVIOUSLY overweight , gross rude? it’s not even like this one is a matter of opinion… he’s overweight. PERIOD. i think it looks gross… on him, on a woman, it just looks disgusting on everyone.it looked gross on me before i finally lost it all. well, I don’t know about the double standards thing… it’s not like he gets the male equivalents of acting gigs that skinny women get. He plays the chubby funny guy, and there are women who play the ‘chubby friend’ and get quite a career out of that… Queen Latifah and Dawn French are two examples of heavier women who have even exceeded that stigma, and are popular actresses.

Yes Rian I totally agree - look at the new 90210 girls and how thin they obvs have to be to score a role - and this guy is racking in the movies roles. Good on him but i must admit, he’s not healthy and shouldnt be applauded for being fat. (im not suggesting you are doing this, just in general by the overweight community)

hes obviously not a good weight but he is a good actor and in funny movies so he should be noticed for that..but so right about how bigger woman dont get as many good parts and are always seen to have to have the perfect bodies but men arent and its so sad that its like that in the world

Very true double standard. As much as I like to look good for myself, it is slightly unfair that females in hollywood are more strongly criticized for gaining just a couple pounds…and clearly this fellow is more than just a few over.
The difference between what is expected of women (or they don’t get work) and what is allowed for men is horrifying to me…from weight through age. I don’t know if it will ever change, but I hope I see the gap close in my lifetime.

Well, if he had been at a different weight at some point in the past the way he looks now WOULD be perceived differently by the media (and by us); and he does not appear as the lead in a lot of movies so I don’t agree that there’s that much of a double standard. As far as this website is concerned, of course there is a double standard, people who are a little chubby at most (like Hayden Panettiere) are criticised very harshly by some, whereas less-than-perfect guys never manage to agitate us as much. But that’s logical, we just don’t identify with them, so we don’t care.
He gets the roles because he is talented. He knows how to be “the jerk/dirty minded-freak” and he does such a good job at it, that’s why many of you can’t stand him. He’s probably not like that in real life. All I can say is he definitely earned his $$$.–unlike the talentless reality show “stars” we see sporting their huge LV bags.
i LOVE jonah hill, regardless of his weight…if he lost weight, most likely he wouldnt get all the hilarious and awesome roles he do…there is a double standard, and i doubt that will ever change
i totally second the thought that he wouldn’t get that many movie roles if any in case he lost all the weight… but truly… you gotta know you’re kinda overweight when your knees start to look like they’re bent inwards.
he could dress somewhat more original. black shirt and dark denims just scream “overweight but i don’t want anyone to notice” which is ridiculous at some point. some of the heavier girls shown on this site still dress quite nicely and somewhat bold. he should have the confidence, too.

sure he gets lots of movie roles, but it’s usuallly as a fat loser (no offence to him, i think he’s funny) and that’s what usually happens to ‘bigger’ actresses as well - they get to be the fat friend or the compulsive over eater.
There are plenty of heavy female actresses who are type-cast into the same comedic roles as he is: Ricky Lake (back in the day), Nicki Blonsky, Roseanne Barr, Rosie O’Donnell . . . Perhaps it is slightly easier for men to get by not being stick thin, but ultimately Hollywood has the same ideals for men as it does women. Jonah Hill will never be on the same level as Brad Pitt or George Clooney at the weight he is currently at.

considering this guy weighs twice as much as any actress I know whos fat and gotten roles,I’d say categorically, no, a woman wouldnt get similar roles at his weight unless it was a speciality role. hollywood does NOT have the same ideals for women as it does for men, would you have seen a woman the size of john goodman getting similar roles to him? he’s played romantic leads and everything. The only way a woman the same size as him and this guy would get romantic leads is if she’s a skinny famous actress in a fat suit. I for would would love to see all of your heads explode when a morbidly obese woman gets a romantic lead in a movie. because no one can love a fat woman! *sarcasm, in case you didnt notice*

well that’s the double standard now isn’t it? Also older men are still movie-worthy while it’s difficult for women over 40 to get roles unless they get tons of plastic surgery to look younger. It’s really quite awful and I’m glad you unknowingly pointed out this b.s. here on a website about “skinny” women. Most of the women on here are not really that famous for doing anything but looking thin. Except Kirsten Johnston, who is great, and unfortunately does not look too good these days. On a lighter note, Jonah Hill is funny , that’s why he’s weight doesn’t matter, just like Jack Black, John Candy, Chris Farley. All these guys are/were overweight and it didn’t really affect their careers.

i think he gets so many roles because he is hilarious. no one is looking at his figure, and he certainly isn’t a sex symbol in the traditional sense.
i’d say the female equivalent is probably like rosie o’donnell (who has, granted, had some controversy recently) but she gets parts for the mere fact that she is hilarious. or, i guess, you could say queen latifah but she is just… gorgeous.
This role could be dangerous….Remember Chris Farley and John Balushi? I really hope history won’t repeat itself once again.
