Rebecca Romijn mentions her exercising habits briefly in the cover story in the August 2008 issue of Self Magazine.

Interestingly enough, she began taking better care of her body at age 19 after getting a comment from model Elle MacPherson. Elle told her: “You have a nice body. You should really take better care of it.” From then on, Rebecca started a fitness regime that has lasted her through the years.

Nowadays, she practices Pilates three or four times a week and does the elliptical trainer for 30 minutes 5 days a week, and hikes. She is happy with her figure and health.

Her commitment to taking good care of herself physically helps her maintain body confidence - and body acceptance. “I’m not model thin anymore, but that’s fine,” she says. “I’ve earned everything I have, and I feel great.”

If she isn’t model-thin, than who is, exactly?! Although perhaps she was referring to her pregnancy, which isn’t mentioned in the article.

Here are a couple of pictures of Rebecca on the set of Ugly Betty last month:

    shes got a great body!!

  2. Swanhilda | 13/08/08

Wow. I’m not model thin either so I guess I have a lot in common with Rebecca, lucky me.

  3. LadyB | 13/08/08

    boring.
I would like to see a Natalie Portman post.

  4. lauren | 13/08/08

She looks great. I LOVE that Self cover–they didn’t photoshop her stomach which looks natural and great. Wow she’s hot.

  5. babyvincer | 13/08/08

I watch her in Ugly Betty and she has always looked beautiful and healthy in every extent. She hasn’t looked too thin, although in real life she probably is super tiny. I love her husband’s personality– so down to earth, romantic, and sooo funny. Good luck with twins, it’ll change the whole dynamic of their relationship.

  6. hiya | 13/08/08

I just don’t get her appeal… She doesn’t seem that pretty to me… but that’s just a personal opinion. Weight-wise she looks great, not too skinny

  7. nikki | 13/08/08

    loved her in XMEN.
    she has got some balls
    *OVARIES*
to act in a ‘costume’ like that one.

  8. Elle | 13/08/08

But she isn’t model thin anymore. Today’s models are so much smaller than they were when she modeled. She is healthy and looks great, but she isn’t todays standard of a runway model.

  9. breads | 13/08/08

couldn’t elle tell an impressionable young woman in a nicer way to look after herself?
any way model thin is too pro-ano (if your not getting paid thousands why starve yourself) and romjin looks great

  10. Cossey | 13/08/08

    Beautiful girl….ugly dress!!

  11. Teed | 13/08/08

Her legs look fabulous on the cover! I want to buy the issue now

  12. brenna | 13/08/08

I got this mag like 3 weeks ago, this has been out for awhile. next.

  13. AnnieJ | 13/08/08

She may not be model thin, but she is a waste of space ie: boring, attention seeking (pregnant w/twins? that’s so last year…….)

  14. ms_benes | 13/08/08

not model thin but she’s fit and slender in her own way.

  15. HMW | 13/08/08

She is gorgeous and has a fabulous body. She’s a goddess. BUT she is nowhere near as thin as high fashion runway models.

  16. Bruna Weinhold | 13/08/08

She looks thinner on the cover than on the other pics.
Perhaps it’s the dress, or the angle, or the hair…
Or maybe just good olg photoshop.

  17. Jess | 13/08/08

    Uncle Jesse: “Havvvve Mercy!”

ha. I still think of john stamos even though they are divorced.

She’s skinny yeah but I think what she means is she doesn’t look like the nasty models on the run way that are 5′10 and 105 lbs.

she has more of a victoria secret style body.

  18. asicsgirl | 13/08/08

she looks ugly in that purple thing.

  19. Kelli | 13/08/08

    her new man is U G L Y

  20. agirl | 13/08/08

Breads, we’re on the same page. You expressed my thoughts, exactly.

  21. * | 13/08/08

i think she is ugly and there is nothing special about her body. idk what she looked like before but i’m sure it was better then this.

  22. Coco | 13/08/08

Her face looks so different in the pregnancy pix. By the looks of the first pic, she has a very nice body. Slim, but not skinny.

  23. Kimberly | 13/08/08

I have had this issue for at least a month now, and I am almost sure the interview was way before that. She probaly was not pregnant at the time.

  24. => | 13/08/08

“i’m not model thin” is not the biggest compliment because most people would like to be model thin. i hate her hair in the bottom pictures.

  25. purple | 13/08/08

oh she is pregnant in the 2 and 3 pic - good bc i thought she looked bigger there.

  26. Christina | 13/08/08

“couldn’t elle tell an impressionable young woman in a nicer way to look after herself?”

Or she could just put it bluntly and not be politically correct about it. In a world like theirs, bluntness is actually a breathe of fresh air because they can be a bit thick when it comes to thinking realistically.

  27. mickey 00 | 13/08/08

She looks thin enough to me! She has a great body, and stunningly beautiful face.

  28. elle | 13/08/08

my husband loves this womans body. he thinks she is perfect!!!! yet he also thinks pamela anderson is perfect and jessica simpson fat… interesting…

  29. jed | 13/08/08

    this is exactly backwards:=> | August 13th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
“i’m not model thin” is not the biggest compliment because most people would like to be model thin. i hate her hair in the bottom pictures.

“You are model thin” means odds are you are doing unhealthy things—even model thin models do not usually stay that way when they do not have to.

  30. Petal | 13/08/08

I agree with Elle’s advice to her. It’s blunt, but’s it’s straight to the point. Personally, I appreciate advice like that. It’s good that Rebecca listened, and she started exercising.

  31. Lim | 13/08/08

    What she’s wearing ?

  32. Lily | 13/08/08

Oh my god. She is def not ugly. She is very naturally beautiful. Men love her. Jealous much girls?

  33. Lily | 13/08/08

And Elle - my bf thinks exactly the same thing about Pam and Rebecca AND Jessica.

  34. jealous? | 13/08/08

jealous of what - i do not find her attractive!

  35. cheergirl15 | 13/08/08

i hate her horrible hair in the second picture.

i would like to be model thin.

  36. Natasha | 13/08/08

she’s definitely NOT model thin by today’s standards - not even close

  37. breads | 13/08/08

christina i may be harsh on this website but i will never tell an overwieght young woman hey your chubby do something
or a very thin girl, oih eat already
blunt honesty works with those 21+…if you haven’t grown up by then well f. you but for young girls in todays society telling them to be clones with stick legs and fake breast…my approach is don’t be cruel

  38. Fiona | 13/08/08

well she had a child, so why would she want to be model thin for. Plus she is older now.

  39. spanktacular | 13/08/08

She’s an attrative woman but I find her incredibly boring.

  40. Hmmm | 13/08/08

What’s with the question “If she isn’t model-thin, then who is, exactly?!” Ofcourse she isn’t model-thin!!!! Most models are smaller than her!!! Don’t get me wrong, I do think that she is slim, but she’s definitely not someone who should be called model-thin.

Keira Knightley, Nicky Hilton and Paris Hilton are people who I would call mode-thin.

  41. cotton | 13/08/08

    was she ever model thin?
i think she is heavier then victoria secret models. i don’t like her look.

  42. Teed | 13/08/08

I don’t know where you people find your logic.

  43. Natalie | 14/08/08

Breads, I think it’s perfectly fine for Elle to say something like that to a 19 year old model. I think more young girls should be working out and taking care of their bodies. If you don’t start young, it’s difficult to get into the routine of exercising.

  44. Tallenglishgirl | 14/08/08

Her weight is OK (considering she’s pregnant) but her face is somewhat mannish in the jaw area. The cover of that magazine has obviously been photoshopped (as they all are). She has great legs though, I’ll give her that.

  45. Caz | 14/08/08

I actually agree with Natalie (above). There is nothing wrong with healthy eating and exercise., Most balanced people can totaly take a comment like the one Elle made to her. Anorexia can not be brought on my a little comment like that. It is an illness and goes much deeper.

  46. Aurora | 14/08/08

She looks good. I think she is a wonderfull person. Love her as an actress and I am jealous she was married to John Stamos :p

  47. Fashionista | 14/08/08

She does have a really great body… except I hate the outfit she has on in the last few pictures on Ugly Betty. Ugh. So over the top.

  48. Sophie | 14/08/08

Breads are you saying that if someone is 21+ it’s justified to act like a 15 year old girl yourself and make snippy comments about their figure?

It’s not your business to make rude comments about someone’s body not matter how old they are.

  49. Sophie | 14/08/08

She’s not model thin anymore - but who would wanna be?

I sure wouldn’t mind looking like a VS model but some of the girls in high fashion modelling look like death.

  50. Frankie | 14/08/08

models especially nowadays are like noone else
being “model thin” these days means less than pin thin, or looking like death as Sophie says.

  51. Alicia | 14/08/08

I think she has a gorgeous figure!

  52. Kringle | 14/08/08

I interpreted Elle’s statement in the opposite way. I pictured a 19 year old toothpick subsisting on diet coke and cigarettes being told to take better care of her body.
“If she’s not model thin, who is?” -Um, models? You can’t seriously think she’s as thin as the walking skeletons on runways these days?

  53. kate | 14/08/08

I used to be model thin. I worked really hard at it. I treated my body terribly and felt sick & tired all the time. I couldn’t do anything well and couldn’t even think straight. It took me years of strict nutrition & exercise to get back to feeling healthy again. About a Rebecca wieght, but I don’t look as great as her :) I know from experience that in striving to be model thin you’re gravely endangering your physical and emotional health, & you’re drastically decreasing your quality of life. Great on an wise model to help out a young, impressionable one.

  54. kate | 14/08/08

I love this post! Healthy thin is the only way to go.
