She looks really fit, muscular and healthy…
What do YOU all think?

she’s too buff
SHe extremely muscly! Which being an athlete, especially in tennis, you are going to have huge legs, all muscle of course.
too much muscles for my taste! i like it better when a woman looks a little bit “softer”.
when you are too muscular you´ll soon get a “manly” look.
but it´s great that she´s still in form and keeps herself fit.
yes She looks really fit, muscular and healthy BUT i dont like it!!!
this is too much for me^^
great fitness inspiration, she’s really fit and healthy. looks great.
i wish i could play tennis that good=(
She reminds me of a larger Jessica Biel.
Ew! This doesn’t look good, it looks bulky!
I find it depressing that this woman’s physique is considered ‘manly’ or undesirable when she is at peak physical condition and bints like Lohan are revered for their skin and bones. I think she looks incredible, now this is hard work!
not my cup of tea.
Good for her.
I know she is very fit, but just not the body type I would want.
I hate her body. you don’t have to look like this to be fit and healthy.
don’t wanna start a fight with her..
She is way too muscular for me. I would never want to be that big or toned! She looks like a man!
She is fit, but not my type of body at all, like 99% of the women tennis players, she looks like a man.
Waaaaaaay too muscular.
Tennis players are interesting. Sharapova, Ivanovic, Kirilenko, Serena’s sister Venus and many others have far more interesing bodies than—Nicky Hilton, who does almost nothing, and Nicole Ritchie, and a lot of these other women. A lot of them have fashion endorsement deals—so they are more realistic role models in many ways.
Glad to see you feature somebody other than Kournikova, who is always welcome, but does not really play anymore.
Shes very muscular, but I agree with the person who said it’s sad that LiLo is considered great, and Serena manly, when Serena is in the best shape, the healthiest and fittest!
I think she looks great, I think she looks bulkier at some angles, and at others not so much! As long as she’s achieved her bod naturally, then her figure should be praised, not only is she in tip top condition, but she’s fantastic in her career! Just goes to show yu don’t have to be on deaths door skinny to succeed, a real inspiration!
She is really muscular. Her sister is not as big as she is and I think she looks nice. Maybe when she retires from playing she will slim down a little.
I can’t believe these comments. She is “fit”???? We should all be in awe of her body and what it can accomplish. She is like a f***in’ superhero. I suppose you’d all rather slink around looking virtually useless like some frail bobblehead. Feh!
So sad that you all consider this ‘too muscular’. She has curves and muscle and POWER, unlike most of the waif like women featured on this night. Find new role models, girls.
wow, her arm in the second picture! Well all I can say is I respect her for all the apparant dedication it takes to be a proffesional athlete.
i’d much rather be healthy with muscles and tone and have a reason to wake up to in the morning than to starve myself skinny for 5 minutes of fame.
‘nuf said
I’ve always thought her body was incredible — she’s in great shape and looks so strong.
I can’t believe some of these comments. She looks “fit”?? and then the sniffs about “too bulky”?? We should all be in awe of this woman’s body and what it’s able to accomplish. She looks like a f***in’ superhero! I suppose you’d all rather skulk around like a useless frail bobblehead. Feh.
(apologies if this repeats. my previous comment seemed to disappear…)
Happygolucky, I’m right there with you — right down to the “Feh”!
She looks great
I know that she exercises a lot and all, but for some people it’s just easier to build up muscle than for others, and there are female players that are fit as well but not quite as bulky. I’ve been lifting weights for years, but it doesn’t really show and my sister, for example, is the exact opposite, she gets muscle tone from making her bed in the morning, it’s kinda frustrating.
Sorry, I got a little off topic there, Serena obviously has a lot of muscle, but when she retires, I’m sure she’ll get a little smaller.
She’s gonna be huge some day!!
wow muscles! good for her
I think she has a great bod! Its fantastic when a woman has some muscle! The worst is when ur skinny and flabby. Shes definately toned.
I wouldnt want to run into her in a dark alley she would kick my ass LOL
she is bigger than I would want to be (or that I could ever be my frame is way smaller than hers), but she is super fit and looks great. She can’t change the size of her frame. She is not petite.
With that said, I love her necklace.
Is she on steroids? Very muscular (not in a good way) and it looks like she’s carrying a lot of fat on top of that muscle – not a good combo.
Wow. I am not knocking her for being in shape, trust me, I wish I could be that in shape. But her face… she looks like Carrot Top. The comedian.
She is amazing. Good for her! She’s strong and powerful, and it obviously pays off in her tennis game. She’s getting get to the top by sitting on her ass. I feel ridiculous when I compare myself to her (because I am nowhere near as amazing as she is), but my body type is similar. I started off in gymnastics and progressed to running, with other sports on the side. She’s never going to be skinny and she SHOULDN’T. I would rather look “manly” than “frail.” Are you kidding?
Ugh…need to reread before I post.
**She’s NOT getting to the top by sitting on her ass.**
Makes me want to run out and play tennis.
These are the best pics I’ve seen of her. She’s obviously naturally muscular anyway, but now more toned, and less fat. She looks super hot in these pics IMHO.
I also love this tennis outfit. It’s almost retro with the orange colour and her curly loose hair… The first time I’ve seen a pic of Serena and thought she looks something other than bad… In fact- I think she looks ******* AWESOME!!
Okay, now I really want to get out and play too!
That is a whole lotta woman right there! Of course she’s muscular….for god’s sake, she’s a pro athelete! And a pro athlete who WINS, BTW!!
We should all be so ‘bulky’….both in body, and in bank account
She’s an athlete – of course she has muscles. At least in this post no one can slam her for being “unhealthy” just because she’s not pin thin.
Not my ideal body type, but she sure can hit a ball.
she scares me.
Just AWESOME!
wow! she’s so in shape, but then again she has to be!
luckily she is a known tennis player and not a actress b/c people would otherwise have come with “chubby”/”unhealthy” which would shows how much we can really tell from some pics.
Strong, fit and talented!
I have to say I agree with some of the other comment’s re. Arse Kicking!!
Strength on the court is one thing, but I’m pretty sure the psychological advantage of looking so powerful isn’t doing any harm for her game.
I think I’d s**t myself if I had her standing on the opposite side of the net. Very scary!
i love fitness and being toned but this much is too much;)
Don’t get me wrong, I respect athletes and I could never be as talented as her as tennis but…… (feminist people would hate me for this) women should never be that muscular.
Totally fit but I don’t envy her thighs…yea I know she’s an athlete and would have strong thighs but eh, JMO.
i’m SO tired of people on this site jumping down someone’s throat if they express their OPINION that this body type is unattractive. some people just feel that way – period. she may well be in excellent shape, and good for her! but aesthetically, it just isn’t appealing. you can be healthy and in shape and still be slim and more feminine looking. there aren’t only two possibilities.
She’s an athlete, obviously incredibly fit, healthy, and probably needs that amount of muscle to do her job properly. I personally wouldn’t be happy if I looked like that, but if she is happy then good for her.
Wow, her arms look bigger than my boyfriend’s. Not the body type I would want, but she’s in seriously amazing shape. I prefer a bit of a leaner look.
I really admire the athlete that she is. I am pretty muscular myself for a girl, sometimes I like it, sometimes I don’t. But you know Serena is…serena…her body is one of a kind.
i am impressed. she is definitely an athlete.
she looks like a men… that arm is almost scary on a woman :S
@ella | 5/06/09
Oh, we certainly don’t like you. How dare you prescribe how women *should* look. She’s built larger than some women, big deal. As an African American woman, I feel like a lot of the comments on this site are very skewed towards achieving the look of little white girls.
being a tennis player myself, i know that not everyone who plays tennis has thick, muscular legs. the size of a tennis players’ legs really depends on the type of training they do, their body type, and how they carry their weight naturally. i do like how female tennis players have a variety of body types- you have players like serena williams and svetlana kuznetsova who are thick and muscular, you have average-sized women like jelena jankovic and ana ivanovic, and you also have the thinner girls like sharapova and daniela hantuchova. the ladies in women’s tennis can represent all women- because there are all different shapes, sizes, heights, weights, etc. on the female pro tour.
with that being said, however, i do dislike how serena chooses to lie about her height and weight stats. on her profile (wtatour.com) it has her listed as 5 foot 7 and 135 pounds. ummmmm excuse me, that has to be completely false. taken into consideration that muscle weighs much more than fat, and obviously how she looks, she is much, much more than 135 pounds, and probably an inch or two taller. when i was serious about tennis and was playing all the time, doing weight training and conditioning 24/7, i was about 130 pounds (standing at 5 feet 7), and i looked soooooooo much smaller than serena does now. girlfriend needs to update her stats. haha.
WOW. She’s a star. Those are some serious arms. Love it! She’s got muscle but still looks like a woman b/c she still has softness to her. Good for her.
She looks scary. I’d rather look frail than bulky. Can’t imagine any male I know (or female) being into someone who looks like this. Sure – she’s fit. Attractive? That’s debatable.
I can’t lie, the only thing I want from Serena is that big booty! I love her booty, especially when she goes to the beach with a two piece and people can’t stop looking at this large woman with a nice ARSE! I wouldn’t want to be that muscular, but at least she’s happy with her body! confidance ladies!
I don’t think body aesthetics even matter when you are this athletically talented!
WAY too muscular. those calves are out of control!
She looks as gross as a balding, fat man
she should be under the mens category…
and uh pardones- moi, AES, but ana ivonovic is not an “average” size. ha trust me on that one, she is one of the biggest girls I have ever seen in my life, and she is by far one of the biggest on tour..
and CHAZ, I would definitely NOT call her one of the fittest. ha, of course she’s facing the camera in every single on of these pictures, but the size of her @$$ is FAR from “healthy/fit,” despite her genetics.
In my opinion, she is not worthy of being on this site, especially after she just lost in the french to kuznetsova..
ewwwww! her arms are wayyyy too big imo, its not feminine in any way
“Manly”?!? Are you guys kidding? Have you seen her boobs and butt? She is well-endowed in categories other than muscle!
Her body looks like artwork. Seriously, this is some excellent, strong anatomy right there.
Her thighs are totally thunderous!! Ew she has the nastiest body ever, not woman like at all!! I would take scar skinny over bulky anyday
is she an ispiration???are you kidding me?
go serena! her body is amazing. I wouldn’t want to look like her, but loooking that that and staying that muscular and toned is harder then being “skinny fat”. It takes ALOT of discipline and training to get that kinda body.
She looks like a man with implants.
@allison
Not worthy of being on here? do you know that she is the “BEST” female tennis player in the history of the game. She has taken on the worlds best and left them crying in agony! so many people stop watching Tennis because they knew she would win almost every game. In order to the best, you have to be the best phyiscally! hands down she’s in shape, she just doesn’t have the body that you would like. She’s the best of the best and even ended a couple of tennis careers! she derserves to be on here 24/7 with a cherry on top! you don’t become the “BEST” by being skinny honey!
P.S. she may have lose this one, but look at her numbers and choke on that honey! go Serena!
I don’t envy her body one bit. Her shoulders are too wide and her legs are too thick.
Her arms are super toned but her legs need some squats. The reason you guys think she looks “manly” is because she is disproportionate from top to bottom, I bet if she did squats her legs would firm up. But seriously, have any of you seen female bodybuilders? They look wayyy more muscular than this but alot better imo, because everything is proportioned correctly so they just dont look as big. I used to be a bodybuilder and at my largest I weighed 115 and I am 5′3. Due to a sports injury I had to have several surgeries and now I cant really lift heavy so just from light weights and cardio I got down to 95 lbs, but am back up to 105 now. For some people, it is hard to gain muscle. So I say kudos to Serena!
wow! i want her to kick my butt and make me get in shape
I think she is more into her sport, than in the way her body looks. As long as she is on her games, that’s all that matters. Her passion and career is tennis, not having the most proportionate, picturesque, Hollywood-perfect body in the world. She’s not a model, not a movie star,… She is an athlete. She has an athletes body. I think its beautiful
Thick is thin or whatev:
if any white girl looked like that, she’d be labeled as fat. and, as a very experienced tennis player, I know that you don’t have to be in gut- wretching shape to be on the top [to a certain extent], but I know that half of those players are as high as they are cuz of their mental toughness, and hell, I’ll give serena TONS of credit for that, as loud and ‘in yo face’ obnoxious as she can get, she definitely has it mentally 100%. and I’m sure as you can recall, this is the “skinny” website. do you honestly think she qualifies as skinny? hmm… I’m thinking…. no. and she is not at all the best tennis player in the history of the game, yea she’s definitely up there, but I wouldn’t call her the “BEST” at all. all she does is stand inside and smack the you know what out of the ball, just like every other chick in the top ten. if she didn’t have her height, she would definitely not be where she is (and the statistics that say she is supposedly 5 7 is a lie, FYI.) henin, for e.g. (ACTUALLY being about 5 7) was far better and didnt use her height at all to her advantage. just sayin. ha
[ha sorry, gettin a tad too techincal here.]
but anyways, that’s just my opinion, like I said earlier. we all have our own views :]
I think it is ridiculous for one person to say that her look “is just not appealing to anyone”…
Everyone has there opinions and they all vary, and it doesn’t make yours any less right or wrong if you do not agree with someone else.
I think she is a visual example of being muscular and toned. I personally do not find her figure very feminine, at all… and women do need body fat; she seems to have none.
fyi she is 5 foot 9 inches.
She is awesome!!!
Super in shape & healthy…no bobblyhead here!!!
I love fit and healthy (Ripa’s a favorite), but don’t like my thighs rubbing together due to fat or muscle.
I applaud her for her extreme dedication and determination. Just because her body type isn’t the one I would like doesn’t mean I think badly of her!! What about all the other athletes and celebrities who work just as hard as Serena that don’t reach the same outcome? I could work my ass off, weights and cardio, and I would never have her muscular body becaue it’s not my body type. Just like she will never be a skinny minny because it’s not her body type.
I think she is amazingly fit and strong and obviously healthy and am in constant awe of how good she is. I just wouldn’t want that look for myself – and that doesn’t make me a bad person.
Her body is great, though I wouldn’t want thighs quite that big… I like the dress.
She is a sports woman and needs to be strong and powerful, which is what she is. I do not find such a muscular physique attractive, but it works for her.
Well, she’s an athlete so she’s all muscle. You can’t really say anything “bad” about her figure because that’s how atheletes look like; they have to be in good shape.
Few things are more beautiful than a woman with muscles.
she looks gorgeous, but i don’t agree with jed; these tennis players aren’t more REALISTIC rolemodels, since it takes a hel* of a lot a work to get that fit and muscly, where as to be skinny u just stop eating enough (not to minimize the effort people put to lose weight, but once u get to that certain mental state, it comes kinda naturally, to be unhealthily thin that is) also, i hate it when people say that looks too muscly, well it’s just an opinion, but it seems to be such a common one. like powerful, fit, hardworking women are a turn-off. fragile, thin women look more like they need to be protected and taken care of. just as heels or the chinese shoes that smashed your toes were to make: A. men desire you B. make it harder for you to move, making you “a catch”. which is not to say thin women aren’t beautiful, they are, and i do wear ridiculously high heels, but just to deny women from being muscular.. idk… and again, only reason i’m saying this is that i’ve been seeing a lot of negative comments about any muscle celebs have when reading these kinda channels. fortunately some (and in the real world propably many)still find serena stunning
Awesome body.
an thats the reason ana wintour skipped sports to not get muscular.Nah this doesnt look good or okay I dont doubt that she is healthy and fit but it looks extremely unattractive. That much musclemass only looks good on men.Makes her look very manly
@ allison or alice whateva :O)
Of course, last time I checked people of african descent(blacks are not white) have more muscle mass compared to whites (look in a medical book). So yes, I would except genetics to play a role in the shape of her body. It’s well known that even at a perfect body weight blacks tend to have heavier thighs compared to a white woman. It’s our genetic build. I don’t see people screaming at asians for being extra small, but when blacks have bigger rounder booties(that stick out our genes) and thighs with some meat on it, we are fat! please! Serena and venus played against taller women, and she still beat plenty of them. It’s not just about the height it’s the skills, strenght, and endurance that makes a great tennis player. You are right, she isn’t the best, it’s her sister Venus who has the better numbers. I remeber when they started playing tennis in the 90’s and the tennis players were average height and built, but the players couldn’t keep up with them. In order to beat the sisters they had to bring these painfully tall and muscular looking women from russia(they are known for big women) and all of these other ussr like countries to beat them. It’s been noted several times(I keep with my sports mags), they changed the game of tennis for their generation. Now I do think martina navratilova was one of the best of the best! I loved watching her when I was child. Both sisters have had a long career and I think they deserve 100% due to respect along with Navratilova. At the end of the day I relaize that blacks, whites, and asians came from different regions of the world, which makes us more gentically prone to certain illnesses and body types!
Yeah, she’s a good athlete and in good shape, but this body type is terribly unattractive to me.
She is huge!!! looks like a gorilla with all those muscles. And now she is fit, wait until she get pregnant and will become fat.
Man, this woman is built like a brick s***house.
I’m not normally so crass, but that was litterally the first and most poignant expression that came to mind.
Wow. Why do some of you feel it is unacceptable to idealize a thin body (Lindsay Lohan was the example) but entirely fine to idealize Williams’s body? If we are talking about “health,” it is indeed up in the air when it comes to whose body is “better.” Things that are boring that you can’t speculate over this website over: What are their cholesterol counts? Blood pressure?
Also, to call this body “natural” is highly debatable. It is her occupation to be this size and type, of course it isn’t completely natural – she spends a lot of time (got three extra hours a day to exercise?) seeing to it that her body is in this shape. Therefore it is not an attainable ideal for an average person whose job it is to input data or sell clothes.
For argument’s sake, I’d say that Lohan’s body also requires a lot of effort – of an opposite kind, but effort none the less.
@ janey, a body is not something to be just seen. It is obviously suppose to be used. It is debatable that Lindsay’s “effort” is anyway making her body more useable, functionable, able to get through the tasks of dail living.
Serena’s effort to achieve her body is for health, sports,to do well at something, to function.
She’s got the body and ability of an great athlete and looks good!
I love her! She is just an amazing athlete…but it is rare for a woman to have her muscle…
If she had a more feminine, sleek look, but had less power on the court we wouldn’t be talking about her today!
She is really muscular, but I love her personality and she is the best dressed tennis player!
I’m in total admiration here! I would most certainly rather be a healthy, strong, and agile woman than a weak and starving girl who could not so much as lift a finger in their own defense….

Janey, it takes far more effort to get in this sort of shape than it does to get ’skinny’. Believe it or not Serena almost certainly has a lower percent body fat than Lyndsey. Not necessarily less pounds of fat, but a lower percentage in relation to her total body weight. This is why Serena has a lot of muscle definition and Lyndsey is skinny yet very soft.
Lyndsey has zero muscle mass and whilst you may prefer non muscular bodies there is still a necessary amount of lean mass your body should have to stay healthy. Extreme dieting destroys muscle mass leading the person to become very frail looking but still soft.
Okay – I don’t care how good a tennis player she is – she looks bad as a woman. There is nothing feminine or attractive about her snarl, for instance – she looks like she’s competing for alpha caveman. And this site isn’t about sports, it’s about LOOKS – and in the looks category, Serena is a loser. If I were a man, I’d be a lot more attracted to Lilo’s frailty and feminine beauty than I would be to Serena’s man-muscles.

She’s a professional tennis player. She probably doesn’t give a shit if she was skinny. If she was a stick she couldn’t play tennis. She’d fall over.
