Such a mess! I hope she gets better, but I don’t think she will whilst she tries to remain relevant and in the spotlight. Her career died with marissa! Looking bloated and insipid. However, I’m sure others would look a lot worse with no make-up.

Well, she has been ill I guess…so I won’t say much, I doubt I would be looking totally on it if I were just out of an involuntary psychiatric hospitalization. I don’t know why but that first photo is giving me a Kirstie Ally vibe. I think they fed her better in the hospital though, she does look heavier and she needed to gain a few months ago for sure.
She almost looks fresh maybe it’s because of less make-up? She seems to have gained a bit again.
The first picture is horrendous, she looks like she is melting. Almost like she is 50 and not in her 20’s. The 2nd and 3rd pictures don’t look so bad. Actually a little cute, dare I say!
Even though I know it is not true I always think that the photographers are out to get her by only selling the ugliest pictures of her. I can’t imagine that she could go from beautiful to 80 in a matter of months but I guess it is true. She needs to stop the drugs, drinking and SMOKING! It has really taken a toll on her!

She yo-yos in a very unhealthy way. Everyone was all commending her for losing so much weight a few months back, but you’d almost have to be a moron to think she did it the healthy way. No surprise @ her hospitalization. She’s just like Lohan and Spears…take some f-ing time off and get your life straight.
she does look like she needs a good detox – she must be on meds that have bloated her face because there is no way she put on that much weight in such a short space of time… i would rather any sick person to be on the path to recovery and look like this than look like lilo who is clearly a drug addict drunk who has a major dislike for eating and for who recovery is only a dream.

Poor thing. I was never a big fan, but it must be awful to have something SO personal be posted all over the place. I’ve had my own difficult moments in life (and then some), and I can’t imagine how awful it would be to have the whole world know about it.

aoife, she actually was detoxing while in the hospital for the past couple of weeks. Sometimes when you detox from a chemical or alcohol, you can bloat up a bit from increased food intake.
Well on a more positive note she has a really cute outfit!

Like was said before, she was probably detoxing while in the hospital. I have been in the hospital on countless, countless occasions for drug/ alcohol related crap and because of severe dehydration due to my bulimia (not proud, just saying); have been hooked up to some heavy duty iv’s for a bit, and have come out looking (or at least feeling like I looked) like this. I cant imagine what it would be like to come out and look like this in front of the world. Who knows what she is going through. Probably a massive dose of way too much partying. She was just on a psych hold, though. Which usually means there is something bigger than just a bunch of partying. Who knows. But I am pretty sure this is not “real” weight. Looks bloated to me.
Not into the dress (i like the print, but too billowy and pouchy), but I’m totally lovin her flats, they are so cute. Her hair looks really nice too. I wish her luck, she needs it. Gross to the cigarette, I’ll never understand why anyone would pick up a cancer stick and start smoking
Yes, O is right. Saline solution and antidepressants can make you blow up/ Her body will adjust soon…the important part is her staying clean and sober.
She was sooo cute in her OC days. I think once she gets her “medical” issues cleared up she will be back to her cute stylish self again.

Molly, antidepressant’s can make you look bloated within a week. I know from personal experience. I have gotten off them before, and a week later it looks like someone let the air out of a balloon!

The only good thing is that she looks a little better without a ton of racoon makeup piled on her face.

thanks tina. i just started a strong dose of a new antidepressant yesterday (mind you i’ve previously been on every one you can name) and all these comments are making me a bit paranoid. i like my small face.
she looks so much better without all the make up she usually wears. wish she wouldn’t wear such baggy clothing all the time though, that dress would look way better if the waist was cinched in
I feel bad for Mischa, even more than I do for Lindsay. She had a complete meltdown and everyone saw it coming. I wonder if she’s gonna go on meds now, she’ll probably blow up even more. Get better Mischa!

She was def gonna gain all the weight back, because she more than likely didn’t loose it the healthy way(exercise and good food choices). I’m kind of sad to say I don’t feel sorry for her. What exactly is her crisis? Drugs/Depression, drugs she could prevent herself, depression probably caused by drugs. People should know their boundaries and live healthier lifestyles. Business and pleasure don’t mix…

Mischa looks tired. It must have been quite an ordeal for her then knowing you’re under public scrutiny on top of it all. That must be tough. She looks so sweet and harmless though, and it suits her not to have so much make-up caked on her pretty face. Yeah, she’s heavier and puffy but I’m sure she’ll be back on form in no time at all. She needs to stay away from the drugs and alcohol and get back into yoga.

That is some major coke bloat going on in her face. That will go away though. I hope she takes this opportunity to really change her life around. Compared to all the pictures of her in recent months with all the heavy make-up, she looks way better.

Poor girl, i wonder why she was in the Psych hospital. She must have attempted to suicide of something. Such a shame, she is so young. She does look super bloated in the first picture but, then on the other two she looks really good, even with no makeup on, i’d say better than with all the caked on makeup that she usually wears.
She looks better weight wise, but I’m sure she will be dropping that back down pretty fast. Her face looks jowly though, what happened to hear?

Molly, I would rather have my bloated look and be able to function; so hang in there.
I think the last thing she should worry about is fixing her career right now. I agree with those saying give her a break and worry about those of you worrying about her looks and career. She has to take care of her self and her mental well-being right now. I personally don’t think she should be working but maybe going to a residential treatment somewhere. Just to get away from her life and focus on herself, you know? About her looks though, I think she looks better than when we last saw her (which doesn’t really say much I know). She is still bloated a little but not as bad and she looks a little more rested. Probably the bare face helps. I don’t think she needs to lose any weight. Maybe her set point is higher than she had been trying to maintain and this is her healthy weight. When you gain weight in the hospital, it starts off making you look bloated (and IVs make a difference too, I agree with whoever mentioned that) but then over time the weight redistributes and you like normal again, but just at a healthier weight.

OMG she looks so sad. I just want to give her a hug. I really hope she’s ok! She looks sooo much different than her OC days. I’m guess in 2003 she weighed about 120 pounds (at 5′10) and now I’m guessing she weighs closer to 160. Ugh you can just see the pain behind her eyes. So sad.

Although some comments have been snarky, as I was grazing this thread I was pleasantly surprised by how many posters are cognizant of the fact that Miss Barton, while a celebrity, is human. This temperance from viciousness sounds simple, but is rarely practiced (at least from what I’m used to seeing.) So thanks.

Bodywise it’s hard to tell with that (as usual awful) outfit.
To: Epiphany…yes, that is the CW show …”The Beautiful Life” that Mischa is supposed to begin starring in (July 31st). The producers of the show have set the “start date” back a little saying that they had some additional “sets” which were not quite ready. They DO, HOWEVER, ALSO have a contingency plan (another actress to play the part if Mischa is or has not sufficiently recovered in time)!
Mischa was terribly bloated prior to her involuntary (5150) psychiatric stay at the hospital. She was “reportedly” down to like 110 lbs @ 5′10″ tall back in March/April (was so gaunt…she looked like someone out of a concentration camp! She looked worse than LiLo) but began going out every night drinking, partying, doing drugs (pot…and that made her crave sweets which “added weight to her frame”.) Supposedly she had been on a 3-day cocaine binge prior to her hospital stay. She was at a Four Seasons Hotel and roaming around disoriented. The next day, guess she (or a friend) called from Mischa’s house the day she went to the hospital. She told the 911 operator that she was seeing “tree people” in her trees & foliage outside her bedroom window. A bit delusional, ya think??? And yes, she spent more than the 72-hour hold in hospital detoxing…(and detoxing and then if she’s taking anti-depressants)…that will add to her bloat. Poor girl…hope she can get herself together & on the right track. A commentator stated that Mischa’s downward spiral makes LiLo look like a nun! So, Mischa…hope you get well and stay well.

However, the good thing about gentle press coverage is that it will become okay to get help for mental illness.

She looks a damn sight younger in these pics. Good on her for getting the help she needed, hope she sticks at it. Mental illness or not, she has a problem and it takes an awful lot of courage to get help, so I commend her.

woah. there is no need to deem someone not mentally ill or even mentally ill. it is really a terribly horrible situation, and i think it is not ok to deem that someone else isn’t “suffering enough” to have a mental illness.
No one can ever know the inside of someone else’s head.
Just because she’s a “hollywood starlet” it does not mean she is void of valid feelings. And if she isn’t mentally ill, i’d say we could still say she was for “pretending”.

She looks young and pretty. People need to stop jabbering on about Mischa’s body during ‘The OC’ days. She was a teenager then. Now she is woman, with breasts, hips and a slower metabolism. The poor girl has probably tormented herself trying to get down to her weight during ‘The OC’ to please the sycophants.
She can’t handle the pressures… She will try to kill herself again.
well I’m glad to see there a people with a non judgemental perspective on mental illness here. And brittany, valen and anyone who realises just how ignorant and to be honest plane NastY green bird sounded – well said! No one ever knows what anybody else goes through behind closed doors, or when the lights go out, rich or poor, famous or not, young or old, nobody is immune to emotional, physical, or mental suffering.
I don’t know why she’s famous anymore, I haven’t seen her on TV or movies for ages, but giving the fact that only a few months ago she was scary skinny and everything she looks actually good here. She’s gained, good for her. Love the dress.
And plus, I really do understand her about this mental illness stuff too. I’ve been there also.
TO MOLLY: I’ve been on anti-ds for many many years and they have never bloated me or made me put on weight. I believe actual weight gain from anti-ds is due to increased appetite and not a slowing of metabolism. Everyone’s body reacts differently though. Just saying, I’ve never had a problem with them in terms of bloating or weight gain.
On topic, could Mischa’s bloated face be from bulimia? I’ve never seen her face look like that before. I’ve never been a fan but I wish her well – poor chicky babe

I just found out that she has major self-esteem/body issues (which I was unaware), so I’ve decided not to say anything negative about the way she looks. I actually feel guilty about the things that I’ve said in the past. How aweful would it be for her if she were to read all of these aweful comments?! Anyway, I hope she is on the road to recovery and is realizing how precious life is…she deserves to be happy AND healthy!

Ohhhh Mischa, so beautiful. Regardless of wether or not she was on a coke binge, she always looks fantastic to me. She has such a unique face, and her body is always great at any weight. I love her.

Some of these comments are so utterly ignorant. These are photographs taken by terribly untalented photographers after she had probably ridden a very long plane ride. I ask you all to look at yourselves in the mirror without makeup on, after a draining/distressful time (not to mention being on a plane for 5+ hours) and tell me you look absolutely stunning, perfect, and ready for a picture. Please. I don’t doubt any of her personal or mental problems, but these photographs have nothing to do with any of that. She’s just gotten off a plane for f*ck’s sakes. C’mon, please have more common sense.
