I almost didn’t recognize her real breasts! LOL! This woman is fricken’ gorgeous, and her proportions are perfect. Compare her breasts to someone with silicone bags bolted to her chest wall, like Holly Madison, and you can see how pitiful fake boobs are.
I absolutely adore her. She really knows how to work her figure.
I also know, that on the show, the women are required to be more curvy (January Jones said this), so as to be realistic for the time period.

Really? What women SHOULD look like? Women should just look natural, however their bodies are when they are healthy.

Please, can we just accept that bodies come in a range of beautiful shapes, and this is just another gorgeous example of that amazing spectrum? Why is one necessarily better than the other?
Annnnyway, you do have to be careful how you dress a body like hers (foundation garments, good fits, etc.), and she pulls it off with pizazz — just like in the show.
I would NOT love to have her body, though I do think she is pretty.
It makes me laugh when folks are like, “So bleh. Average. What’s special.”, but then gush when Nicky Hilton is featured with her bony knee caps. I’m glad there are so many positive comments. most people realize that you do not have to have a certain body type to be beautiful. I think both of the women are beautiful women with different body types. even if I wanted to look like Christina Hendricks I won’t, but that does not make her body any less womanly or gorgeous than someone who is thinner.

It is refreshing to see someone who doesn’t look starved. I’ve read interviews with her and she seems confident in who she is, and what her body shape is. Personally I don’t agree with the “this is what a women should look like” because every body comes in different shapes, but she is very pretty.

She probably has one of the most beautiful faces I’ve ever seen. And I LOVE how you can see she has a few wrinkles (not really, but compared to the botoxed skin of your average celeb.) Body-wise, I really don’t think she’s fat but she definitely stands out compared to all the other women in Hollywood.
She is beautiful, and looks to be very comfortable in her own skin. To the people who commented she is “average-sized, nothing special,” are you implying that she isn’t beautiful simply because she isn’t a size 2? That’s a bit harsh. And to those who made the comment that she is “fat”… well really, you can’t be serious. I’m flat-chested and have no hips to speak of, but I can still appreciate that this woman is at a healthy weight for her body, because it’s HER body. Not yours, and not mine. She’s clearly NOT overweight, and to say she is is just mean-spirited and ignorant.

I think she looks “old” in the first pic. And I think she’s a bit on the chubby side. Maybe lose 15lbs-ish to be a bit more attractive. I do like her coloring though.
She’s got a tummy – which looks normal on the average gal in the supermarket. But it looks alien on the red carpet. She reminds me of Kate Winslet. Chubby, but otherwise perfect.

Because both are beautiful in their own way? Don’t be so close minded. Christina Hendricks is FAR from a whale and FAR from being huge. She is a lovely, gorgeous, stunning woman who doesn’t feel the need to starve herself. If she weighed 10kg (22 lbs) less she would look sickly.
Trust me, there is no straight man in the world that would turn Christina down.
FaerieGirl, not all women are born with huge breasts, small waist and wide hips. Women’s looks shouldn’t matter as long as they are healthy.

Justbe: I made the same comment earlier about what women “should” look like, and I think people are taking it wrong. What I meant by that was, most women naturally have hips, tummies, boobs…you know..”meaty” lol. The trend in hollywood today is for girls (and women) to starve themselves to the point where they look like pre-pubescent boys. The “bobblehead” look. Girls and women see these girls and start to feel bad about the way they look and feel that they don’t fit society’s standards of beauty. Christina Hendricks is an absolute breath of fresh air. Bodies like that scream “woman” haha. Women were allowed to look like women once upon a time (think Sophia Loren, Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield, etc..) These were the “standards” of beauty and femininity. You’re right, women should “just be”, and that what makes her so beautiful. I sincerely hope there is some kind of shift, and we see more of this. =)
I envy her figure, but let’s be a little realistic. There are spanx involved in this. Also, I hate this idea that curvy is “ideal”. No matter how much I work out, I will never have those boobs–so to me, lambasting skinny women who work out and saying that this is ideal is even MORE of an impossible reality than the skinny people who are worshipped. We could all probably have kristin cavallaris body with some work, but it is HIGHLY unlikely most of us can achieve this ridiculous proportion.

What people are trying to say when they say this is how a woman should look like is that they should look like that’s their natural weight and look comfortable and happy, like I think she and Nicole Richie are both beautiful with beautiful bodies but clearly they are completely different. What I’m trying to say is they look healthy and like they treat their body with respect. For example, Jessica Alba, everyone knows that’s not her natural weight and she looks really worn out, but Sienna Miller is naturally thin and she looks beautiful. Yes all bodies are different but every woman should have the right to be comfotable with their skinny, average, or thickish body.
Super-hourglasses (like this chick) always look “too much” to me. I mean, all right, I like women on the curvier side but I mean people like Megan Fox, Adriana Lima, definitely NOT all this meat.

I think she’s very pretty, if I’m being honest though, not necessarily the body type I would like to have. Refreshing to see someone like her on the red carpet. BTW, Kristen Chenowith looked VERY bobblehead-ish at the Emmy’s.
Back to Christina, in that last close-up pic, it does look like she’s had some minor work done (Botox, lips) – her forehead barely moves in the first pic.

This is what a real 50’s housewife would look like (suck it, Marcia Cross!). Yes, her stomach is not washboard/concave, yes she does have wrinkles around her eyes… but,… she is believably and realistically beautiful. She does not have to alter time or space (in terms of age and plastic surgery) to have a beautifully, delicate jawline, whopping eyes, and a curvy, soft figure that was the ideal in the 50’s. Not my ideal body type, but I am not her. Beauty exists on an individual to individual basis, and she is doing right in her own persona and sphere of existence. Awesome show, awesome actress. Way to challenge mediocrity!

My props to j., elizabeth, and Rian, too. People are built different, and yeah, I could have her lower half, but never the chest, just like Beyonce’ will never have Nicole Richie’s hips. Big deal. It’s about taking care of what you own and claiming it (“owning” it) rather than living a miserable shell of an existance and denying who you are.

She looks phenomenal in clothes, even thought she is voluptuous and most clothes are designed for coathanger figures. I wish that more celebrities looked like this. What a breath of fresh air. jessica alba is naturally curvy (as we all know) but she´s starving/dieting/exercising in order to be unnaturally skinny. everybody can see this and it´s just NOT attractive.

People have said this before, but her body is beautiful because of her proportions. She looks beautiful at this weight and she would look beautiful 20lbs. thinner. For most people who weren’t born with these proportions, they are always going to look better thinner than this. Having said that, it is so nice to see a little variety in Hollywood. I am really sick of the blond stick figures. Let’s just make things a little more interesting please with some more people like Christina.

Like others have said, not my ideal body weight/shape, but I don’t think she’s necessarily fat. I think she should have chosen a dress with a different cut up top, though. With boobs like that (ie large and real), you have to be careful – they’ll end up just a smooshed, ill-defined, saggy blob if you’re not careful.

wow- all these comments are making me sick. She’s chubby and definitely NOT in good shape. she needs to lose weight. I’m sick of people pretending that chubby equals healthy- it does not! This is a prime example of how distorted our perceptions become in a land of such obese people.

What is “the perfect body”? It is the body that has obviously been treated lovingly with exercise, some sunshine, quality food from all food groups, and hydration. And it is the body of the woman who has ACCEPTED what she has been given and has made the most of it, even if she’s a little heavy, or a little skinny, or flat-chested, or too busty. The perfect body is the body of a woman who loves what she has, takes cares of it, and looks confident — no matter what’s on the runway or in magazines. So just take care of what you have and you too will be perfect.
@Lucia: Beth Ditto is overweight, Kelly Clarkson is overweight. This woman is not. I am willing to bet her BMI is not over 24.

I do think Christina is a breath of fresh air and I love Mad Men, but I would not be comfortable as curvy as she is. She’s so perfect for her role though, and very pretty.
And londoncalling, you’re right (as always!) about her black and blue gown– poor garment looks bruised from being stretched around all those curves. She wore an emerald green gown to the 2008 Emmys and that color looked much better on her, although I’m not sure she was there in person– I think she just sent her breasts. That’s all I remember seeing in the interview anyway.
if her breasts were just 1-2 cup sizes smaller.. maybe a more modest D or even a DD… then i would think she was completely perfect. she’s strikingly beautiful but the enormity of her breasts is really distracting.
I think she is a real woman but I don’t think that is an insult to thin women. She just is different from the bizarre idealized perfection that seems to be pervasive. She has boobs and an ass and is beautiful. When I look around me I see more women who look like this than Nicole Richie beond the age of 18. They need a role model and a voice too.We shouldn’t call women gross and fat merely because they mature into a womanly body. It makes us all neurotic.

I doubt she’s overweight – looks like a perfectly healthy size to me. I personally wouldn’t want to be _that_ curvy (I really wouldn’t know where to put those boobs), but I think she looks great anyway.

She is really stunning and has a beautiful face. Her curves suit her well. I’m curious how old she is. I think the dress looks awesome on her. But, I do think her boobs are just too big. I would hate to have to lug those things around. I need to watch Mad Men some time, I’ve never seen it before.
She is not ugly in any way, but I don’t find her face attractive. The dress looks way too tight and that is distracting. She has large breasts-which I know is a huge focus of the male attention (of course) and they aren’t looking at her face or anything else for that matter….
her body is so awkward looking. she’s just a lump. i mean it’s fine to not be super skinny but when someone has no muscle tone at all it just looks unhealthy and frumpy to me. i read that they didn’t want her to work out because for the show she’s on women were “softer” back then which is NOT true because women didn’t have the modern conveniences we have now. they didn’t go to the gym but they ate better and were physically active in other ways.
Size 10 is not “cute and healthy” to me. She looks overweight. I agree that she could lose 20 -30 pounds. Also I disagree that “most men” like this figure. I can only speak of the men I know and they prefer closer to a size 2.

@Obsessive Compulsive is right: when you see her move, she is very graceful, very sexy. She has a beautiful face and incredible proportions — like an cartoon character from the 50’s. Certainly, I believe that beauty is to be found in all shapes and heights and weights, but if I had to choose between, say, looking like Adriana Lima and looking like this woman, hands down, it would be the latter.

I certainly DO admire the likes of Sienna, VB, Kristin, etc – the “skinny” ones that have made this site famous. . . they’re sexy, pretty, lithe, and famous – honestly, what’s not to admire? I just can’t help but get a big grin on my face when I see a woman like Christina Hendricks on the red carpet. Her body is not the norm, and much more closely resembles my own. Yet she is also famous, lovely, sexy, etc. You’re all right – beauty comes in all sizes, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But that doesn’t mean one can’t prefer an hourglass shape over a boyish build, or vice versa.
As someone said here, women should just “BE.”

Shes not fat, shes normal. As long as shes healthy and not a giant unhealthy slob full of body fat, then its fine. and shes nowhere near that. Shes not a bobblehead, but neither obese. Gorgeous face and I got a feeling that men will love this type of body much more than a bony almost breakable bobblehead, anyways.
I disagree with the comment that this is how women “should be.” I’m naturally thinner/more athletic/petite. I think I would feel uncomfortable, if I were that curvy. She looks good, but curvy-ness isn’t for everyone.

Yes she is untoned but her face/skin tone and shape is just beautiful and unique in a sea of bony fake tanned clones. Her boobs are quite big but they help balance out her hips so, while I also usually don’t like how really big boobs look it just works on her!

love her!!! it’s so refreshing to see someone who can pull off confident and hot without being Hollywood skinny. hot should some in all sorts of sizes (short, tall, skinny, curvy), but unfortunately the media mainly only shows us hot in the form of super skinny models/actresses – which is bad cause many of us don’t have that kind of body type so we’re aspiring for a shape we can’t easily achieve. we need more examples of different types beauty out there.

How can some posters lump Christina in the same category as Beth Ditto or even Kelly Clarkson? Beth is obese and Kelly is overweight. Christina is voluptuous — not overweight — hence her thin face and slender limbs. BTW, out of curiosity, I showed my boyfriend this post and he said that from now onwards, he would watch Mad Men just to ogle Christina!

Agree with the comments that point out it isn’t all to do with weight; more about proportion – if I had her shape I would be very happy at her size. However as it stands I have to be skinny in order to get my waist-hip ratio under 0.8 and to allow my facial bone structure any chance at all, and as it happens being thin comes fairly naturally to my body.
I believe we all have a optimal weight and for her, and for say Crystal Renn it happens to be higher – for me and many others lower is better. That’s the funny thing about skinniness, it’s thought of as an elitist thing but in actual fact it gives those of us with less desirable proportions more of a fair chance.

Get with the program…women can look beautiful in all shapes and sizes and she works what she has! I think it’s a breath of fresh air to see a women who doesn’t look like they are on the brink of starving to death. It’s totally ok to prefer certain body types over others but I was getting sick of seeing the celebrity girls having the exact same body as the next one. Variety is the spice of life my friends.
I don’t at all believe that this was the standard housewife weight of the 50s. There was very limited junk food in the 50s, most if not all meals were eaten at home, and obesity was almost unheard of. This might have been the ideal because we were in a pinch financially as a country…but I don’t believe it was the norm. If you look at films of people on the street from the 50s…not a lot of plus size ladies. Also try finding vintage clothes in a size 10 or 12…american current size 10/12 at that.

Blurb – this is not a plus sized woman though. It is true women were smaller but not just in weight they had a more petite build as well. Due to better nutrition not just women but men as well on average are taller and have bigger builds than previous generations. My point is her job is an actress is to look the role as well as play it…and her body type is much closer to what was considered ideal at the time than the super skinny ideal we have today.

shes beautiful! i dont care if you like really skinny bodies or if you think women should look like they’ve eaten a sandwich. i think shes at a weight that’s healthy for her. we all have our own set points for weight, which is why some people look beautiful thin/curvy and some people look not so beautiful. I love how she appears to embrace her curves and her fair skin. i’ve been seeing TONS of red heads in commercials, expecially target commercials, but i think it’s safe to say that shes bringing the sexy back for the red head population – i wish my hair could look like that!
