Hilary Swank Attends ‘Amelia’ Premiere

October 21st, 2009 by Rian | Filed under Misc Celebs & Diet News, What Celebrities Eat.

Hey all, you may notice there is a new category on this site called “What Celebrities Eat” (formerly known as “Celebrity Diets”). Anytime it’s mentioned in a post what a celebrity eats, I’ll be filing it under this category. Enjoy!

Hilary Swank attended the ‘Amelia’ premiere at the Paris Theatre in New York City last night…

Hilary recently shared with press that she gave up her vegetarian diet a couple of years ago because she had gotten too thin and couldn’t seem to stay nourished. She claimed “I just started withering away.”

(Being a vegetarian myself, I’m going to keep my thoughts about her diet choices to myself!)

However, she does look very fit, strong and healthy these days.

    not good at all

  2. Bails86 | 21/10/09

For me… Hiliary Swank is like Alexa Chung. THere is something so masculine about their faces, but absolutely beautiful at the same time. Its hard not to stare, you know?

  3. Susy | 21/10/09

She looks great… love the dress!

  4. MScotton | 21/10/09

I’ve never seen her ‘withering away’. She looks fit and usually does.

  5. Natty | 21/10/09

Some people stack on weight on a vegetarian diet because it is high in carbs. A few of my friends experienced this. I think it depends on your blood type and body type though. Hillary does look stronger than the last pics I’ve seen of her. She looks healthier in the face aswell. Whatever she’s doing is working for her.

  6. Jessica | 21/10/09

She is so gorgeous. Amazing face and body and the dress is beautiful

  7. drama queen | 21/10/09

    the dress is amazing…

  8. peanut gallery | 21/10/09

Bad eye make-up. But her slim figure can pull off those weird hip drapings that usually end up making people look dumpy.

  9. Alias | 21/10/09

She looks fit and glowing, I wish she would let her hair down though, it would soften her up a bit!

  10. southerngumdrops | 21/10/09

    gorgeous, fit, and toned

  11. londoncalling | 21/10/09

She reminds me of a beautiful Greek statue, stunning and elegant, a gorgeous vionnet gown, well done!

  12. Rian | 21/10/09

Natty, I’ve heard of that happening too. But I personally lost a good amount of weight after going vegetarian. (I swear, about 8 of the 32 pounds I’ve lost this year just melted off after going veg). I was a pretty big meat eater though.

  13. jenny | 21/10/09

I hate when people stop being vegetarians because they “were getting so sick/withering away/couldn’t workout” it’s just an excuse they use because they want to eat meat again. It’s incredibly easy to eat a balanced vegetarian diet.. especially for a celebrity

  14. Jenn | 21/10/09

The dress is the only thing good about these pics. The man’s face is hard to look at.

  15. Connie | 21/10/09

She looks so statuesque and beautiful. I don’t care for the matchy eyeshadow but the dress and figure are gorgeous!

  16. Seph | 21/10/09

I used to find her manly and unattractive, but I gotta say that when she gets all done up, WOW! She looks fantastic. Her body is completely killer.

  17. Natty | 21/10/09

Rian —– I’m vegetarian too. I know what you mean about weight loss associated with it for some people. I’ve read alot of books on the topic and found that my blood type O+ is meant to be a meat eater for optimal health, but who knows if that is true. They say that blood types A and B thrive on veg diets. I’ve never lost or gained significant amounts as a vego. Just stable. It’s really interesting how different bodies respond to it.

  18. hiha8ers | 21/10/09

Well I think it’s good she made a choice that’s good for her. Being vegetarian doesn’t mean you’re healthy and it’s not for everyone. There are plenty of vege’s who eat processed food and not many fruits or vege’s. She’s a good actress…so talented.

  19. girly girl | 21/10/09

I wish I just “withered away” on my vegetarian diet. I think being a vegetarian makes it easier for me to maintain my desired weight, but I don’t think the pounds automatically melt away when you go veg, if you’re eating enough calories. Like someone else said, if you’ve got the $$$$$ of a celeb, you can purchase all the expensive vegetarian products to keep from getting bored on a vegetarian diet.

    BTW, she looks lovely!

  20. beans | 21/10/09

    dress is gorgeous!

i would think she had to give up being a vegetarian because she’s constantly taking rolls that require her to muscle up (i.e., million dollar baby) which is hard to do without the protein provided in meat.

  21. Sian | 21/10/09

She’s uniquely beautiful and she’s always had an amazing body, strong but feminine. I wonder if that movie is any good?

  22. Claire | 21/10/09

Glowing, her body looks beautiful here. The dress is perfect for her figure.

I don’t find her face that attractive though.

  23. skinny10 | 21/10/09

    she is skinny and gorgeous

  24. sassykzt | 21/10/09

She always in great shape– looks great here! She’s glowing probably because she’s eating a well- balanced diet and exercising. The dress is another story– way too much fabric and details.

  25. maddison | 21/10/09

One of my fave actresses. Her body is fit but not ultra-lean like Renee Z’s. Don’t have anything nice to say about the curtain she’s wearing.

  26. s90 | 21/10/09

oh honey, u can hardly ever get away with an eyeshadow that is the same colour as your outfit! Bad make-up aside, she looks great!

  27. Persephone | 21/10/09

I think people that gain weight or lose so much weight that they wither away on a vegetarian diet are doing something wrong. It’s easy to eat a balanced diet and maintain a healthy weight as a vegetarian even if you aren’t a celebrity.

Hilary has a nice body, but that dress is ugly.

  28. Anne | 21/10/09

Her comment about getting too thin on a vegetarian diet is complete rubbish. I know plenty of vegetarians who are overweight; I myself have gained 15+ pounds at 2 different points in life while being a vegetarian (don’t worry, I lost the weight both times).

  29. bliss | 21/10/09

I have definitely seen her way too thin: in the movie ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ she had like 10% body fat and looked absolutely horrible. I think her body & skin look good now!

  30. Mina | 21/10/09

She’s not beautiful or even pretty, but otherwise, very charming.

  31. balanced. | 21/10/09

    beautiful and statuesque.

  32. Cossey | 21/10/09

Good Lord….I’d love to explore that mouth!!!

  33. sweetnsour | 21/10/09

    Beans…ITA.

She looks much healthier here…..she was most certainly getting too lean before.

That being said……this chick bugs the living daylight outta me!!

  34. nilski | 21/10/09

I wonder how long she was a Vegetarian? As someone who has been a Veggie for 20 years and is healthy, thin, and hardly “withering away”…I can’t imagine just switching back to meat so easily. There are loads of ways to get protein besides eating cows. Perhaps, she should’ve consulted a Nutritionist before blaming her Veggie Diet. BTW…love the color of her dress!

  35. Mel | 21/10/09

She has a great body and dress. But there still is nothing she can do about her horse face! It is so rough and unattractive.

  36. mars in velvet | 21/10/09

She looks vibrant, but I think she should’ve kept her thoughts to herself about the diet.

  37. happygolucky | 21/10/09

Don’t like the makeup here, but i have always found her gorgeous. I love her big smile and athletic body. And the girl can truly act.
Oh, and beautiful gown & earrings –she looks so glamorous and classy.

  38. BAK | 21/10/09

Being vegan myself, was vegetarian since I was a little kid, by my own choice… so this is a issue close to my heart. If she got too skinny being vegetarian, then she was doing something majorly wrong. I think she is full of crap… I have at times had to diet because I got a little overweight because its SO easy to do being vegetarian and even vegan. So I don’t buy that for even a second.

Anyways, I didn’t know she gave up vegetarian and as much as I like her, she looses some points in my book. But I do hope this new movie is good, it looks like it has a lot of potential and I know all about the Amelia Erhart story, so I hope they do her justice and don’t Hollywood the story up too much.

  39. lmd | 21/10/09

Meh, I have mixed feelings about vegetarian diets. I went vegan for around a month to see if I’d feel better healthwise and it destroyed me, and that was with a balanced vegan diet. It really depends on each person’s physical health. That aside though, she does look healthier than I have seen in the past. I did think she was getting a little too thin a couple years ago.

  40. Kate | 21/10/09

She does look good body wise! I like the color of her dress too. You know, I was a vegetarian for a few years on and off and I have the same problem, I get very sick for some reason without meat. I eat nuts everyday and would take supplements and I still would be very tired and weak. I eat chicken two or three times a week and am much better. It never impacted my weight all that much though, btu I’m naturally very skinny.

  41. Girl Butt | 21/10/09

Odd under-eye makeup. She looks bruised. You know you’re skinny when you can drape extra material over your hips & midsection and still look painfully thin. The dress is gorgeous though, and so his Hilary. I love the train.

  42. Girl Butt | 21/10/09

Cossey, you make me laugh. I bet you’re glad she eats meat again, aren’t you? ;-D

  43. Miss Jessie | 21/10/09

Hey Rian, don’t keep your thoughts to yourself. If they are over the top person can step in (lol)

As for Swank, I like her because I assume she has more will power than my extended family combined.

  44. lulu | 21/10/09

She looks ok, her body is decent. I just can’t like her much for some reason, too manly looking. And that dress is drapery gone bad, horrid. I like the color, but that’s it.

  45. AD | 21/10/09

Nilski – I totally agree! As a vegetarian you can still get plenty of protein if you pay attention – legumes (edamame is great!), yogurt (especially Greek yogurt), sprouted wheat, etc. If you’re vegan it’s of course a bit more complicated; I think that you really have to educate yourself if you’re going to be vegetarian, and especially so if you go vegan, or else you can miss out on important nutrients and end up getting ill or being generally less healthy. Simply cutting out meat is not the way to go. B12 and amino acids are especially important – being B12 deficient is NO FUN. So, as others have said, I think that she was definitely doing it wrong. Invest in a good vegetarian cookbook Hilary!

  46. AD | 21/10/09

…that said, I think she looks awesome here. I bet that she is rocking the Spanx under that dress.

  47. Monica | 21/10/09

Wow. I want that dress!! So glamorous.

  48. Anne | 21/10/09

I think her weight loss was more to do with the Olympic style training she seems to undertake for many of her roles – rather than her diet.

Also maybe what celebrities say they eat might be a better topic.

  49. Gina | 21/10/09

She has those empty eyes. Sad.

  50. edamame | 21/10/09

I’ve been a vegetarian for over a handful of years–and it’s generally low carb and high in protein (not high in carbs and/or low in protein like some people speculate must comprise a veggie diet). It can definitely be done.

  51. Lana | 21/10/09

obviously she wasn’t doing something right in her vegetarian diet. No need to wither away unless you’re making poor decisions.

  52. kat | 21/10/09

being vegetarian is an excuse to for an ED.

  53. Elle | 21/10/09

    I agree… I’m healthier because I’m a vegetarian, I just take iron tablets!

  54. glow | 22/10/09

    “empty eyes?”
    How ridiculous.

  55. Barbie | 22/10/09

She has such a gorgeous figure. Can’t say the same for her face.

  56. justathought | 22/10/09

@SWEETNSOUR what does ITA mean? just wondering
Kudos to her for not wanting to wither away and caring about being healthy. she does look better to me. I mean she has such a manly face she does need a curvy, womanly body to balance it out. IMO she needs to grow her hair back out to make her look more feminine. Love her movies, she can really act!

  57. Mickey von Dutch | 22/10/09

If you are a vegetarian like I am, and you do eat your cheese and your nuts, you are in no danger to be become “too thin”. If that were the case, I would have given up meat as a baby. So I’m guessing it either has to do with an imbalanced diet, her metabolism or her portions.

  58. Rose | 22/10/09

She has a great body. She’s muscular but doesn’t look harsh like Renee Zellweger.

  59. retrobanana | 22/10/09

i liek when hill has the bronze tan going she looks great. and i like the dress.

  60. add | 22/10/09

she looks pretty bony in the chest/hands areas
she looks nice tho i would like to be even thinner so she’s not too thin IMO

  61. Jade | 22/10/09

Lol that was a good one Girl Butt.

  62. Gaviota | 22/10/09

she is what my husband would call BUTTAFACE! LOL

  63. Ella | 22/10/09

It’s not that hard to eat well on a vegetarian diet. You just have to eat protein at every meal and snack. I’ve been a vegetarian for 40 years and I work out, bicycle to work, do yoga, hike, garden — a normal, healthy, active lifestyle. I am not super-skinny, but my BMI is healthily low and I never get sick. I think people who go vegetarian often just don’t take the time to learn about nutrition. Then again, I think a lot of Americans don’t really know what healthy food is anymore…

  64. Emily | 23/10/09

LOVE LOVE LOVE the dress!!! I want it even though I have nowhere to wear it! And she looks gorgeous as usual!
