  1. Em | 17/01/10

How come she always channels one of Tim Burton’s characters? This time, Corpse Bride.

  2. Sarah Diggins | 17/01/10

Gosh, she just looks so ill! Her face is grey and she does not look in glowing health.

  3. Jillian | 17/01/10

Lips and brows way too dark. Would look nice otherwise.

  4. sumienie | 17/01/10

there’s something tragic about this look… and actually I like it!

  5. Lisa | 17/01/10

hideous make up… otherwise she looks good

  6. Kiki | 17/01/10

    Ugh, yuck.
Her face looks old and dirty with that dark make-up on. Doesn’t suit her at all.

  7. Anda | 17/01/10

It might sound weird, but this is the first time I see her almost decent looking.. even with the “Gothic” look

  8. Debonaire-esque | 17/01/10

never fails to impress me with her style choice

  9. edie s. | 17/01/10

I LOVE that dress. does anyone know who the designer is ??

otherwise I think that the dress would have been stunning on someone like eva mendes or anne hathaway. but for ashley ? :S

  10. Lisa | 17/01/10

Her hips looks large and the collar goes too far up her neck which makes her face look puffy. The dress could have looked nice if it had been designed better.

  11. Jade | 17/01/10

That’s all those two ever do is waste their youth away, wearing gaudy old lady clothes. Ridiculous, they should wear “young” clothes once in a while.

  12. s90 | 17/01/10

She looks cute and slim. I actually think she looks really good, make up included.

  13. Kaya | 17/01/10

    Why oh why?!

  14. MScotton | 17/01/10

    Hate the lipstick.

  15. Carro | 17/01/10

hahaha lisa you HAVE TO be kidding, “her hips look large”? her hips could NEVER look large! That’s just stupid… I think she’s stunning, she has her own style… (even though I don’t think she created this look herself.. kudos to her stylist!)

  16. Maria | 17/01/10

She looks like a sad clown.
    Wow, trying waay too hard.

  17. s.o. | 17/01/10

    “Zombie bride” from Mean Girls?

  18. gemma | 17/01/10

I like what she was trying to do with the look – just think she hasn’t quite pulled it off. As if she was trying too hard, the lips are too dark and completely drain her face, she needs something a little more up lifting. So she doesn’t look quite passed it. The twins do fascinate me though with their style. I would love to raid their wardrobe.

  19. MossWidow | 17/01/10

OMG she looks so ill and terrifying…
That lip color is really a bad choice for her, considering her age and skin color(but match the dress, which appears to be as well a wrong choice at the first place).

Somehow her neck seems to be sucked into that dress.

  20. Vienna Woods | 17/01/10

That dress would be great if it didn’t have sleeves. She should have lost the dark lipstick, because that combined with the stuffy dress makes her look like the corpse bride.

  21. Jennie | 17/01/10

I thought I would never say this, but she looks TERRIBLE.

  22. passerbee | 17/01/10

i’m not fond of the lip color although i like dark lips which suits this style BUT i reeeeally love the fact that this dress is in her size! bravo!

  23. Gaby | 17/01/10

I’m sorry, but I’ve never found those twins to be beautiful.

  24. Supergirl | 17/01/10

I don’t get it…why would such a young girl want to look so old??? She could look adorable if she even tried a little bit. So strange…..

  25. Lil J | 17/01/10

uhg… that makeup!!! what was she thinking! did she even look in the mirror before leaving for the event

  26. Dee | 17/01/10

The overly dark lipstick makes her skin look very grey and unhealthy. I think if she had used a warmer tone she would look much better.

  27. so | 17/01/10

    ewwwwwww
she looks like a little troll.
    a dead little troll.

  28. moonbel | 17/01/10

Looks so pale and colorless; especially after seeing Sofia’s beautiful red dress pictures.
Funny how I think these pictures left Rian speechless…she didn’t comment. I totally feel the same way…
BTW, thanks Rian, for Sunday posts…ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND!!!
    ;)

  29. girly girl | 17/01/10

She’s such a pretty girl with her NATURAL hair color & less makeup-a lot like Blake Lively. This dress/make-up (and maybe it’s just due to the camera flash) makes her look very corpse-like. Maybe that’s the look she’s going for, but I think she would look fabulous, if she tried to go for a more effortless look.

  30. Polly | 17/01/10

Reminds me of Lady Gaga here, or visa versa.

  31. emerya | 17/01/10

HAHAHAHAHA i just have to laugh when i see these two girls anymore. i have always loved them, but their fashion sense is just SO….unique i suppose. she doesnt look as slim as her normal self..

  32. Moll | 17/01/10

I kinda like the dress and her hair looks decent.
It’s just that lipstick.. whyy did she chose that colour.

  33. Gina | 17/01/10

I love that dress but I just don’t think it’s right for her; it shortens her neck and makes her shoulders broader than I think they actually are.
I’m not sure on the make-up either, maybe if she’d gone with either dark lips or dark eyebrows it wouldn’t be so harsh but with both I don’t think it really works, not for me anyway.

  34. rebecca | 17/01/10

    Looks like a vintage dress?

  35. slightlystoopid | 17/01/10

she is 22, 23 years old, shes not a kid. this might be a mature look but given her fashion history a mini dress would just look silly on her. what i love about the olsens is that they always push the boundaries.
although i think this dress is unflattering, i dont object to the style of it

  36. Glad Wrap | 17/01/10

The critics posting on here make me laugh so hard. She looks adorable. I would truly love to see what these people who say all these catty remarks look like. lol.

  37. hellokittyroxmysox | 17/01/10

I don’t like the lipstick on her.

  38. aimdawg | 17/01/10

hate everything about this, and i LOVE the olsen twins :/
I guess I can appreciate her intentions though…?

  39. rosie | 17/01/10

i thought mary-kate was the one out of the two who ruined her beautiful face with deadful makeup and hair?

  40. Breezy | 17/01/10

Personally, I LOVE the dress (except for the collar…), but the makeup… way too much. I mean, is she TRYING to make her face look unattractive? o_O

  41. artemis | 17/01/10

omg @ Em I thought that too! with this bride dress n lipstick she looks like a dead bride lol

  42. Courtney | 17/01/10

Where’d her neck go???? It’s just head on shoulders.

  43. anon | 17/01/10

the dress fits her really well.

  44. Gaby | 17/01/10

To Glad Warp: Simply because one does not think this girl is a classic Hollywood beauty does not mean that we are ugly or jealous as you are implying. That is so ignorant to assume, I bet many of the people in this forum are lovely, and to say otherwise because they don’t agree with your opinion is so childish.

  45. Courtney | 17/01/10

Where’d her neck go? It’s just head on shoulders.

  46. nina | 17/01/10

gosh she looks baaaaaad. :s I mean seriously, is it that hard to dress age appropriately?

  47. lulu | 17/01/10

Gosh, the twins are so ODD these days! Not even in a good way. It definitely looks like a Tim Burton character but less attractive. The makeup looks awful on her. I thought MK was the weird one of the two.

  48. clo | 17/01/10

I think she would look cute in a short dress not silly. She’d be embracing her youth for once.

  49. May Kasahara | 17/01/10

@Glad Wrap: I’m willing to bet that pretty much everyone (if not absolutely everyone) who commented here looks more normal than Ashley does on this occasion.

  50. Connie | 17/01/10

    Agree with So & nina.

  51. Amy | 17/01/10

These comments make me laugh so much….in a good way, I mean they’re so funny! zombie bride from mean girls! LOL!

Always puts a smile on my face. :)

  52. glow | 17/01/10

Her hips do not look large, how ridiculous. Her make-up, on the other hand, looks hideous.

  53. sab | 17/01/10

def had a better body a few years ago..

  54. kelsey | 17/01/10

wow she looks really good the dark lipstick with that dress is beautiful i just don’t like the clutch

  55. andrew | 17/01/10

    happy 80th birthday, ashley!!!!

  56. Lyla | 17/01/10

I think she looks stunning and, in my opinion, this dress flaunts her figure! People should keep in mind that The Art of Elysium’s Annual Gala is unique in the sense that it’s not a typical red carpet/black tie event. There is an artsy, creative, almost costume-like motif, which is why I think Olsen’s dress and makeup work here.

  57. asemalla | 17/01/10

Where to start: The dress would have been flattering on someone 15 centimetres taller than her. She looks timid, self-conscious and as if she were wishing to go back home. And the make up is absolutely HORRIBLE. Shiny face and far too dark lipstick. And what about a smile?

  58. Supersonic1122 | 17/01/10

I love the twins, but what the f**k was she thinking with that dress? It just doesn’t work. The make-up is daring, but could have worked with a simple, elegant LBD and brightly coloured heels. It’s only since the Olsens have started working working in fashion full time (before that, they always had an amazing sense of style). I think maybe working so close with fashion has effected her judgement on what looks good. It’s hardly any surprise , considering some of the freaky stuff you can see being paraded down the catwalk… and, er, on Lady Gaga’s back!

  59. Megan | 17/01/10

    no comment…

    okay, never mind.

What is their problem with their looks!? I don’t get it. Do they think they’re attractive looking like this?

  60. Oksana | 17/01/10

Looks like she is from 1920’s. I don’t mind dark lipstick but not with this outfit. Her dark eyebrows could look good if the hair was also darker. The dress is just wrong.

  61. s90 | 17/01/10

    @edie s: I think it’s Alexander McQueen.

  62. Ephemeral | 17/01/10

I think she looks portrait-perfect. Like a vintage painting of a great great aunt. Its nostalgic. I don’t hate it, or love it, but i think its beautiful in its own way.

She looks WAY beyond her 23 years, but as someone else pointed out- At least its in her size!

  63. Sian | 17/01/10

Not to be nitpicky, but I thought ‘The Art of Elysium’-Gala happens twice a year, making it semi-annual?
On topic: Ashley seems to have found her ideal weight, good for her, but that gown together with that make-up looks too Goth-y for me, she should have styled it differently because the dress needs a little ironical distance, imo.

  64. Sian | 17/01/10

Em, just read your comment, that was spot on. But I love Tim Burton-characters, so I’m not sure it’s a bad thing ;)

  65. angelxo | 17/01/10

wow, she looks scary. the dress + her pale skin + dark lip stick + dark eye brows do not look good not her.

  66. JillyMak | 17/01/10

She looks good weight wise but it looks like she is in costume for a mid century vampire flick. Corpse Bride meets Full House?

  67. Meli | 17/01/10

Her dress seems more like a wedding dress and she looks identical to a corpse. Very ugly skin-tone to top off her uglyness. I am sorry, in this world anybody can look good, just take of the rediculous make-up, where something in which we can identify a body under there atleast! and smile a little. Not to hard…..

  68. les | 17/01/10

I LOOOOVE her dress! I think she’s cute for the most part, I don’t even think the makeup is too bad, it would look better if her skin didn’t have that gray color to it, and if she looked a little happier

  69. Sessa | 17/01/10

    Good lord.

  70. MUA | 17/01/10

She is so pretty but always finds something to detract your attention away from her beauty, such a shame. That color was a hideous choice.Shame on her makeup artist! lol And her gown looks way too much like a vintage wedding gown for my taste. But as long as she feels beautiful thats all that really matters.I just personally feel that she and her sister are natural beauties, they are gorgeous girls.I dont understand why shes going for a gothic grandma bride look here!

  71. LC | 17/01/10

LOL at the comment about the corpse bride, I was thinking the same thing when I saw the dress and the lipstick.

  72. Mimi | 17/01/10

Lol at the 80th birthday comment!
I love the olsen’s , and agree with some of the above comments, they are always unique and are experimental when it comes to fashion. I would love to raid their wardrobes!

I think ashley’s weight is good here, and I like the dress but I would like to see her wearing a mini for a change, all she seems to wear is long dresses. I’m really disliking the lipstick. Her and MK look way prettier and younger in a nude lip.

  73. b | 17/01/10

i love love love love the gown! She should try to stretch her neck out…it looks like she’s hunching her shoulders.

seriously, i want this gown to be my wedding dress. the only thing i’d consider doing is modifying the sleeves (removing them). it’s gorgeous!!!!!

  74. skinnyb | 17/01/10

Nice dress but she looks as if she doesn’t have a neck in the 3rd and 4th picture.

  75. kym | 17/01/10

the dress is beautiful but it just swamps her tiny frame, making her look a little overwhelmed.

  76. Ali | 17/01/10

She would look much better with lighter makeup, but the dress is very pretty.

  77. Scary_doLL | 17/01/10

@S.O I was thinking the same thing but she was actually an *ex-wife* :D lol

  78. Lesser | 18/01/10

That outfit and make up make her look ancient. Jeez.

  79. kitkat | 18/01/10

maybe the lipstick would even be okay if her brows weren’t like drawn on with a brown sharpie? I mean dark lipstick can work, the corpse bride look might just be from the eyebrow..situation

  80. IHaveAComment | 18/01/10

    YIKES!!!!!!!!!

    WTF?

    I am speechless.

  81. justathought | 18/01/10

I like her weight and the fact thats shes finally healhty looking weight wise. The outfit and makeup are truly scary to me. They are just not my type of style i guess. I personally loved the olsen twins five or six years ago before they “weirded out” IMO.

  82. kim | 18/01/10

her and her sister are just weirdos….hire a freaking stylist

  83. observer | 18/01/10

not a good look. agree on the corpse bridge resemblance.. that or a creepy, old doll.

  84. Anna | 18/01/10

Wow, she looks so much better in tight fitting clothes!

  85. yin | 18/01/10

mka and ash always look like zombies in a cute awesome way!
the dress is not too bad but i dont like the cut of it-> her shoulders are looking wider.. i wish she would be a little more youthful in her style
it really looks like its her grandmothers one!!-lill bit ugly therefore!
her make up looks awful!!! (lips, eyebrows) and hair hair too, strange colour!!

but iam glad taht she looks healthy and her face looks very thin!!

  86. ems | 18/01/10

i like this, its nice, her hair may have looked nicer down, but overall its a good style

  87. Danni8 | 18/01/10

She looks really, really good here and knows how to carry this look, dominant lips included.

  88. Becky | 18/01/10

Halloween’s come around early! I do like the dress, but really how old is this girl, the makeup is way too heavy for a younger persons face, very vampy, a good figure though.

  89. Stacy | 18/01/10

that’s unfortunate. she is such a cute girl.

  90. fuzz | 18/01/10

    a smile wouldn’t hurt…?

  91. Rebecca | 18/01/10

99.9% of the time i would say that lipstick is a no no, but it actually works here…that combined with the dress, earrings, hair, and clutch works well together for a classic vintage look

  92. Laurely | 18/01/10

whats up is she a member of the adams family?!?!

  93. isabiatch | 18/01/10

I actually think she pulls off this creepy look rather well. She’s no Helena Bonham Carter but E for effort.

  94. Marty | 18/01/10

I dont get why they dress like this?
Style is a way of expressing one’s personality but umm…i dont get it!

  95. kt | 18/01/10

love love love ashley olsen! she looks hot!

  96. Cossey | 18/01/10

I’d have to hose her down….then do her!

  97. blabla | 18/01/10

Is there something wrong with having your own style? I give her credit for doing just that in LA wher most girls look like clones of each other (each to their own). I actually like her look here. I think she looks very fashionable and weird in a good way :D

  98. Ellia | 18/01/10

I see the look that she is going for here… reminds me of a Henry James heroine… but she is much too short for this dress. If she had a swanlike neck like Audrey Hepburn, it would work.

Not a fan of her looks, but I give her credit for her style.

  99. missmc | 18/01/10

Amazing! Never fails to bring something unexpected to the red carpet. Bravo, the look is flawless!

  100. Matilda | 18/01/10

Nothing wrong with having your own style but at least make sure you don’t look like your own grandmother or a child that stole her mother’s make-up kit.

  101. Beckster | 18/01/10

    Absolutely horrifying lipstick. Yikes.

  102. Lily | 18/01/10

So I think the twins are two of the most miserable people! They always looks so sad and depressed. They are never smiling!

  103. amanda | 18/01/10

    I.LOVE.IT.

  104. sama | 18/01/10

whyyyy the lipstick? and why isn’t she smiling?

  105. Jojo | 18/01/10

I don’t like anything about this.
Not the make up(those lips-oh my gosh!), the dress(looks like a tacky wedding dress), her facial expressions.

  106. asiont | 18/01/10

is she dead or rather 95 years old?

  107. evamattiolo | 18/01/10

She put on a weight, and shes always been fugly…

  108. october | 18/01/10

i love it, she looks great. it’s edgy, yet classical. her body looks good, not many could pull of all that texture, it shows off her waist/hip area just enough. i love the make up, just wish she would relax her face more, and maybe even crack a smile once in a while, that would give her that more “youthful” look everyone says is missing.

  109. jazmella | 18/01/10

She would look so much better without that hideous lipstick shade.

She’s a very beautiful young lady, otherwise!

  110. PandaBear | 18/01/10

You know, most of the time she (they) look hideous, but the goth look suits her here, she does look like Corpse Bride, but sometimes I think it is purposeful the choice of outfits to get attention.

  111. karin | 19/01/10

Oh come on people, we haven’t seen fashion this fabulous since Little Edie. I always thought the twins were slightly retarded, but had style. Yeah.

  112. Rachel | 19/01/10

It’s nice to see her with a little bit of curves in her hips, but she is much much too short for that dress. Go tall girls!

  113. RC | 19/01/10

    A very beautiful vampire bride.

  114. Raven* | 19/01/10

Ashley can’t pull off that lipstick. She looks like she’s wearing MK’s clothes (who personally I prefer better).

  115. pancakes | 20/01/10

the olsen twins used to be so pretty and now they always look so grandmotherly

  116. Rose | 20/01/10

I like the dress. I’m glad she’s not wearing insanely over-sized clothes that hide her body. Though she could have gone another direction with the makeup…it’s interesting though, I like it!

  117. Ray_to_the_izzle | 20/01/10

so excellent! victorian. she is such an inspiration

  118. Maxx05 | 20/01/10

Very high fashion, and very gorgeous. She knows what she’s doing.

  119. sandra | 22/01/10

    She is missing a neck.

  120. Lyskae | 24/01/10

    She looks so unhappy
