Super-skinny Alessandra Ambrosio and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley – who recently made an appearance at the Soho VS store – went on record for an interview with StyleCaster.com. At least one of the questions asked pertained to food and diet. When asked what they eat and how often they exercise, the answers were quite evasive but interesting… Alessandra claimed to eat around five times per day, and Rosie said she likes to eat all day long! (Of course, eating several times a day could just mean they snack on celery and carrots all day!)

SC: Ok, be honest. How much do you really eat, and how often do you actually work out?

AA: I eat like five times a day. I try to be healthy, but I can’t help myself when there is chocolate around! It’s my weakness. I travel a lot so it’s hard to keep a consistent workout routine, but when I have time I love doing yoga.

RHW: I eat constantly– I love to eat and I workout when I have free time.

SC: Have you ever been told by industry people that you weren’t pretty or skinny enough for the job?

AA: There’s always rejection in the industry, but when you really want something you can’t give up.

RHW: There’s always criticism in this industry, but I’m lucky to work with clients like Victoria’s Secret who celebrate my body.

SC: If you could eat anything you wanted for one day, what would be on the menu?

AA: My grandmother’s perogies.

RHW: My mom’s roast dinners– British roast dinner.

Make sure to check out the entire video and interview – it’s pretty interesting stuff. The models even talk briefly about how Victoria’s Secret embraces the ‘curvier’ models. (Which makes one wonder: then why are so many of their current models so stick-thin?)

What do you all think of the video and interview?

    first?

  2. elenne | 5/03/10

I think the whole thing is pretty stupid, and uninteresting.

blatant lies, sort of sick of these vs

  3. iona | 5/03/10

They look very unhealthy. Who could think this was sexy? She may eat 5 times a day – one pea each time.

  4. Polly | 5/03/10

Does anyone believe celebrities anymore when it comes to diets and exercise?! I wouldn’t it’s a bunch of lies to me. Oh and if Rosie doesn’t know how to market VS, I don’t know who does!

  5. Jade | 5/03/10

“(Of course, eating several times a day could just mean they snack on celery and carrots all day!)”…lol, that’s pretty much what I was thinking. An apple, some carrots, salad, handful of blueberries, and some fish with veggies on the side? All spaced apart by a couple hours.

  6. Lily | 5/03/10

lies, lies, and lies! they don’t eat.

  7. ella | 5/03/10

it’s obviously a lie. or maybe more like denial. chocolate my a*s.

  8. glow | 5/03/10

What, 5 small lettuce leaves a day?

  9. Rian | 5/03/10

    iona – LOL

  10. Kelli | 5/03/10

I agree with iona and Jade…sure they probably are EATING 5 times a day but I seriously doubt it’s a “meal”

  11. Natalie | 5/03/10

even if they have great metabolisms, i still doubt they eat much at all. alessandra always says her weakness is chocolate and brazilian food but never says anything about her actual diet. eating 5 times a day doesn’t mean you have a feast every time, just very small meals that often. for her, that probably means a cup of fruit or yogurt. she’d be deathly thin (though she’s close) if she really never ate.

  12. Carey | 5/03/10

Alessandra is too thin but it’s unfair to claim that she’s anorexic or bulimic just because she’s too thin. Alessandra takes care of her body and keep it this way because it’s her job and this job has demands, so it’s hard to imagine Alessandra becoming fat or obese. Alessandra’s body is very slender. Alessandra is a natural thin girl who become skinnier because of her job. Hopefully she keep herself skinny following healthy diet with good physical exercises.
Usually I see people here appraising curvy girls when sometimes they can be overweight and bash healthy thin girls like they’re plague.

  13. Asha | 5/03/10

Curves = boobs. You can wear a 12 in little girls and have D cups and you’re considered curvy. What an age we live in!

  14. Creepy Doll | 5/03/10

Anorexic people usually “eat” many times a day in order to control their appetite better!

  15. Renee | 5/03/10

hahah everyone is so funny.. but yea vs models we aren’t buying it, we all know you are lying and you definitely don’t eat!

  16. sweetnsour | 5/03/10

So if she eats one grape five times a day she can say that she ‘eats’ 5x a day. That statement is totally vague….she isn’t eating 5 MEALS a day, I guarantee it.

  17. right on | 5/03/10

Alessandra actually says “YEAH I’m a curvy woman” in the interview. LOL!

  18. lily | 5/03/10

Carey be realistic alessandra had a child recently and she’s small enough to fit into childrens clothes. Look what happened to gemma ward she quit because modeling agencies were telling girls that they wanted them to look anorexic. I think the pressure doesn’t come from vs but from other clients or their agencies. If they want other jobs they hasve to be thin. Don’t kid yourself the agencies are telling models to starve themselves.

  19. rachel | 5/03/10

Yea, I love her but I doubt she even eats twice a day let alone 5 times!

  20. Tiny Dancer | 5/03/10

    yawn. Next.

  21. Ania | 5/03/10

    what a load of ****
it always annoys me how they talk about their guilty pleasures…

  22. so | 5/03/10

yeah, right, Alessandra, you eat 5 times a day. And how many times a day you throw up?

  23. Meesh | 5/03/10

“Which makes one wonder: then why are so many of their current models so stick-thin?”
Lol! Thanks for putting this up! :)
I don’t understand how people can count on yoga to be their only source of exercise. I do yoga too, but more as something that gets my blood flowing in the morning/relaxes me and helps me go to sleep at night.

  24. nnn | 5/03/10

Boring. She prob does eat 5 small meals a day. That’s how most ppl stay small. I bet less than 1200 calories total though…

  25. Draccae | 5/03/10

I bet they eat at least 1200 calories a day. At that height and age 1200 is nothing.

  26. Realist101 | 5/03/10

Honestly, these women don’t owe it to anyone to explain what they eat. I think its personally invasive to ask someone what they eat. They do what they need to do for their job, which includes telling the public what they want to hear. I agree that the VS models have recently jumped on the superthin bandwagon… they are surely not curvy, but I wouldnt mind looking like that at all. There are a lot of good genes in Brazil!

  27. MentallySkinny | 5/03/10

It’s hilarious that Alessandra thinks she’s “curvy” but whatever, It’s one of those things that changes depending on your perspective. To me, she used to be a little curvier a while ago, now she’s wasting away and face is looking weird.

Rosie on the other hand, seems healthier in the underwear photoshoot, she actually looks toned and her face is very sexy.

  28. greenie | 5/03/10

They may not have real curves and be sexy like older VS models, but they are STILL curvy compared to most models out there these days….. a normal model on the runway is 32-24-33….a VS models 32-24.5-25.5…may not seem like a huge difference but enough to not land runway shows and before getting VS Im sure they were told to lose weight. Its out of control.

  29. alicia | 5/03/10

Seriously they are models-their body is their income. They are thin, but I do think it is overstepping to think they are anorexic or bulimic.

  30. alana | 5/03/10

omg hahaha i can’t believe alassandra didn’t bust out laughing when she yeah “yeah… i’m a curvier model”
    she’s super skinny

  31. Kianna | 5/03/10

Agree with Iona and Jade’s comments.. one or two peas 5x a day. Or maybe an apple or few lettuce leaves. Her “main” meal(s) are probaby a small serving of steamed/broiled fish which is less than 100 calories or a container of fat free lo-cal yogurt! Eating 5x/daily could mean anything…a few grapes or a few strawberries of a sliver of canteloupe, etc.. And I highly DOUBT that Alessandra eats anywhere NEAR 1200/calories/day! I would think she may consume 500 to 700 calories/day TOPS! These girls (models) are totally delusional in what they “claim” in their interviews!
    Th

  32. size0 | 5/03/10

As skinny as she is probably around only 800 calories a day…They always feel the need to say they eat all the time when you can see from their weight that they do not eat at all.

  33. Angie | 5/03/10

Yeah I also agree they’re probably 5 very small meals, snacks actually. That is actually supposed to be better for your metabolism. I do that too

  34. Mel | 5/03/10

Does she eat 5 celery sticks a day? Who is she kidding! There is no way she eats a lot and is that tiny!

  35. Shayda | 5/03/10

Rian you are so resourceful, i don’t use the internet for much else than pop into this site

  36. silverandgold | 5/03/10

I bet she does eat 5 times a day. 200 – 300 calories each time of course and they’d be consuming 1000 to 1500 cals a day. Remember, taller people generally need to eat more to maintain their weight – whatever it is. So they are probably 5′10″ & 105 lbs, right? That calorie amount makes sense then.

Someone should ask them how many calories they eat each day, although I bet they’d just lie.

  37. asemalla | 5/03/10

Yeah, sure. I remember when there was this uproar about some Miss-Australia contestant, who was about 1,80m tall and weighed like 45 kg. She also claimed to be eating 5 times a day and just have a fast metabolism. Really, make up something new, it gets boring!

  38. sally | 5/03/10

I wish there were more celebs like Liz Hurley, who basically admitted she starves herself and works really hard to stay thin. Ditto Marcia Cross and her “it’s like they pay me not to eat” interview. no, it’s not great health advice but at least they’re being honest and don’t leave women going well hang on, I eat chocolate and hike with my dog too, but I don’t look like that?!

  39. abby | 5/03/10

ok maybe they are curvy compared to some runway models, but they are not curvy compared to even hollywood stars- beyonce, scarlett, etc. models are born with this body type that has a small frame and burns fat easily

  40. candy | 5/03/10

    5 lil bites a day…NEXT!

  41. MScotton | 5/03/10

The “yeah I’m a curvy girl” comment by AA. (?)
Well in that case I wouldn’t mind being curvy, and I am not a fan of curvy. But she isn’t what I consider curvy!

  42. morticia | 5/03/10

skinny yes, but would i love to have either of those bodies….you betcha…who wouldn’t….amazing, and being able to wear whatever you want and just rock it!

  43. timeonmyhands | 5/03/10

i agree that they look too skinny (not what vs should represent) and that they probably do not eat as much as they say.
but saying that they only eat 5 pieces of fruit/vegetables is way too dramatic– they’d faint and have no energy at all.

this calculator can estimate how many calories you need to gain/lose/maintain your weight (you just enter your height/weight/age/activity level/gender). i was curious so i entered alessandra’s rumored stats (5′9 112, 28 yrs old?) and just to be on the safe side entered “very light” activity level (meaning no workouts). apparently she can eat almost 1700 calories a day and maintain that very skinny weight even without exercise.
so maybe we should not assume she has a starvation diet just because she looks starving.

  44. Rose | 5/03/10

“I eat like five times a day!”

Oh that sucks, I just gave myself a stroke from rolling my eyes so hard. Thanks Allesandra, now I can’t move the right side of my body.

  45. Z | 5/03/10

I can’t really add to the comments except to say the this TSW rocks. You all said exactly what I was thinking when I first saw the post. Thanks, guys :)

  46. syrah | 5/03/10

    EAT A BURRITO!!!

  47. cute_mom | 5/03/10

Completely sick of this type of BS PR CRAP….!! get a clue VS. it’s so manufactured – and these are ridiculously beautiful, genetically blessed women telling us what they do to feel good about themselves?? please! gag gag gag!

Oh and their answers about food are obvious crap.

  48. glow | 5/03/10

Morticia- Many people wouldn’t like to have this body. Reread this & the Miranda Kerr post. In fact, most grown women wouldn’t.

  49. kj | 5/03/10

I remember seeing on some VS runway special behind the sences that they coach the women on what to say when asked what they eat/ workout. Obviously lies.

  50. Miss A | 5/03/10

Alessandra might eat 5 times, but shes doesn’t mention how she smokes prob 20 times a day…. and we all know smoking decreases appetite! (and causes cancer!!)

  51. jayley | 6/03/10

I can’t believe Alessandra actually said that she’s curvy. As she’s saying it, it seems like even she knows what she’s saying is ridiculous. They are just puppets giving off the same rehearsed answers.

Funny that they talk about vs embracing curvier women then show footage of Chanel Iman. Hypocritical much?

  52. jayley | 6/03/10

I doubt they are 5 ft 10 and 105 lbs. 115 lbs at the very least I think.

  53. Katherine | 6/03/10

@Rose: holy hell, could you be any funnier? I nearly wet myself from laughing. But seriously, I think it’s rather condescending and disrespectful for women of their proportions to throw around the word “curvy” to describe themselves. That’s downright a slap in the face to “normal” women. And that lame “I eat all the time” routine is getting so terribly old. I don’t know why they treat us, the public, like we’re morons by using that excuse. It’s insulting.

  54. Mickey von Dutch | 6/03/10

Five raisins a day does not a meal make, honey!

  55. Rebecca | 6/03/10

come on guys, it’s not like she said she eats 2500 calories a day…she just said the number of times she eats and she’s probably telling the truth about eating fives times a day…when i’m on a diet i eat about 6 or 7 times a day, but it all consists of really small portions and it causes my weight to drop really quickly…when i’m not watching what i eat i probably eat 2-4 times a day but those are really huge portions of unhealthy food that keep me full for awhile

  56. Oksana | 6/03/10

    they are just liars!

  57. Ally)) | 6/03/10

Seriously, people. I believe them. I weight 95lbs myself and I’m very skinny and I eat 5 times a day too! 3 meals + 2 snacks. But I walk a lot and workout 5 days a week. If they’re naturally slender, it’s not that hard to maintain it.

  58. Fili | 6/03/10

She isn´t lying. I know that because I´m as skinny as Alessandra and I share her eating habits.
It´s right, eating five times a day doesn´t mean stuffing your face with burgers and cupcakes all the time. I guess she´s munching on vegetabes and fruits. That would be a really healthy way of life. Eating small, low-calorie snacks like five times a day gives you energy for the whole day and prevents from cravings because you don´t feel hungry at all. Believe me, that´s not starving!
But I agree, I´m sick of models telling how much they eat! They lie, deny and conceal a lot. Why on earth didn´t Ale tell WHAT she eats?
I think we all know that the chocolate thing is a lie. If she actually eats chocolate at all, then she does in moderation.

  59. yin | 6/03/10

The face of ROSIE looks pretty fresh!! WoWie!!!!

  60. Ehhhh... | 6/03/10

    @timeonmyhands.
If you’ve had to diet to maintain a certain figure those stats will not apply to you because your metabolism isn’t functioning the way it is supposed to. I seriously doubt, even if these girls are naturally on the thin side, they have never dieted- I mean they’re MODELS. Of course they have.
Also genetics play a big role. Someone who is 5′9 could eat 1700 calories a day to maintain a weight of 145 (which is the middle and “ideal” weight)…they might have to drop to 1200 calories a day to weight 135– which is still way more than AA.

There are probably one in a million who “naturally” look like this without calorie restriction. Maybe both of these models are those people. Who really knows? Also, most people aren’t very educated on eating disorders so it is very easy for eating disordered people/models to get away with looking like they eat normally when they are eating far from enough to maintain basic organ function.

  61. Chelsie | 6/03/10

Pass them the fried chicken livers

  62. Jj | 6/03/10

they are coached on what to say, vs is a not just a product but an empire so they have these girls walked though what to say, no doubt.

  63. suzushii | 6/03/10

I don’t get her. She looked so nice 10-15 pounds ago, and she was still VERY skinny. She was that freakish small boned tall person, who doesn’t look boney when she’s on the low BMI. But no, she lost so much weight, her face is unrecognisable and manly and haggard. Yuck.

  64. stephanie | 6/03/10

Yeah I agree that AA seems like she knows she is saying something false when she says she’s curvy. It’s just BS!

  65. Mandy | 6/03/10

LOL LOL LOLLLLLL “IM A CURVY WOMAN”?????

    LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL?????????

    LOL LOL LOL LOL

  66. skinnyRiot | 6/03/10

yeah, lettuce 5 times a day.

  67. Draccae | 6/03/10

    Ehhh…

Your calories are really low…my calorie program tells me (at 5′9″ and 127 and 37 years old) to maintain at around 1900 calories. It does and with just walking the dog, a few situps, lunges, arm weights and daily light house cleaning, I maintain at about 2100 calories a day before the exercise. Younger women would require a little more than me…and they are thinner than my 126 certainly but probably work out more too. The daily calories going in would be well over 1400-1500 a day for these ladies, IMO. More like 1600-1700 with moderate daily workouts.

  68. Jordanna | 6/03/10

I totally believe them about what they say they eat…you can totally eat chocolate every day and eat five times a day and still come up very low on calories. All chocolate is not created equal either. But these girls are definitly trying to come across as if they don’t work at being thin, it just happens, which I don’t believe at all.

  69. maxx05 | 6/03/10

I’m wondering if she’s lost weight recently because of her child? That’s ALOT of work! Add her modeling on top of that and I don’t know how she’d possibly keep any lbs. on, to tell you the truth.

  70. Mickey von Dutch | 7/03/10

@maxx05: I’m a stay at home mom. I take care of my kid, look after my mom and dad, clean two houses, teach French, do a lot of volunteer work at school, run for an hour every day and usually have my meals standing up. Bottom line being: the last time I sat down was in 1998, but I look far from emaciated. IMO most of these girls just don’t eat enough, and that is how they stay thin. But while we’re all admiring their ouside, they run serious health risks on the inside. Osteoporosis and heart and kidney failure are no picnic. Personally I’d rather grow old with a little extra ballast.

  71. justathought | 7/03/10

I wouldnt say anything about what they eat but the way they look obviously shows they are not eating enough, i dont care how many times a day they eat. THey are still underweight! Plus the fact they think they and their fellow VS models are “curvy” shows they have a real body dismorphia problem. Its also kind of scary when Alessandra says that in the industry you do anything to get the part! Does that include starving your self. i wish she would just gain back like 10 or 15 pounds

  72. Claire | 7/03/10

I think the fact that they lie and say they eat normally is really insulting! The public arn’t idiots, and by saying that they eat normally they are making things far worse for young girls who want to look like them. These young girls will think ‘oh no now I have to eat nothing to look like them, what’s wrong with me?’. It is totally the wrong attitude, why don’t they just be honest and say ‘yes I have to stay small for my job so I work out a lot and control what I eat’….honesty. We’re not idiots!

  73. Maria | 7/03/10

I’m getting so tired of all the unbelieving, overly dramatic comments.
I do NOT believe they are lying about what they eat. I’m not saying they eat like horses and don’t bother working out – neither are they – but it is ridiculous to jump to starvation assumptions, e.g. 5 celery sticks a day blah blah blah.
    That is anorexia.
While both models look too skinny, they don’t seem to have lost a ridiculous amount of weight recently, which makes me think they probably just have, and have always had, a very active lifestyle and limit their food intake more than the average person aka ‘watch what they eat’. If you like it or not, it is their job to fit into the current beauty standards, so they are probably paying attention to what they eat, but I don’t think either of them is taking it to really drastic measures – although Alessandra could sure stand to gain a few pounds, for her own well-being.

  74. Maria | 7/03/10

Claire: How would admitting they starve themselves make it any easier for young girls to accept they don’t look like them? You can argue either way…
Celeb XY claims: I eat loads, I just have good genes/a fast metabolism/whatever –> young girls conclude something is wrong with them, because they don’t look like this naturally and try to compensate by dieting
Or..Celeb XY claims: I eat next to nothing to look like this. –> young girls feel greedy compared to XY or feel it’s ok to restrict their food intake, because obviously if a famous person is doing it, it can’t be wrong.

    Right?

  75. chicha | 7/03/10

asha and creepy doll- ugh so true! im so sick of this boobs=curvy BS and the actual curvy people that are toned and thin with hips and booty and boobs and tiny waists are ‘big’ and people say they should lose weight etc. its ridiculous.

  76. Jetta C | 7/03/10

This seems to be an important part of the the “game” with celebrities now. It is not enough to be thin – you also have to do it effortlessly. “Oh I just eat whatever I want, all the time” seems to be the standard line. That is why I admire people like Victoria Beckham (tho I do think she is too thin) because at least she is honest about working at eating well–

  77. Milli | 7/03/10

I am Alessandra’s age (one yr older actually) and I was obsessed with looking like her, so I put myself on a 1200-to 1400 cal a day diet, I ate pretty much whatever I wanted, just kept track of calories religiously. Obviously I skinned down, from 146 lb to 125 lb, and I was already looking very thin. I am also 5′9.5″.
However, I did not feel sexy, I felt empty. My stomach had shrunk, and I could barely eat big portions at all.
So, I increased my calorie intake and gained some of it back. I feel great now. I can not imagine going down to 112 lb. She probably has such a small stomach that she feels quite full with just few bites.
I don’t think she eats much at all, 1000 cal maximum, I would say.

  78. shey | 7/03/10

My sister and I both eat about 5 meals per day, about 500 calories each meal. We’re both about a BMI of 17-18, and my sister has had 2 kids.

Some of you should really reconsider your posts whether or not Ale is lying. You may think she is too thin and that it’s not attractive, but that doesn’t mean her diet isn’t the way she says it is. Even though she is too thin for my taste, I highly highly doubt she is anorexic, as people love to assume.

Don’t get why it bothers you people so much that someone happens to eat normally and be thin. Is it because the majority of you have to restrict and diet?

  79. Ehhhh | 7/03/10

@Draccae… Well I was using the figure the earlier post from timeonmyhands was using. But it sounds like you have a great metabolism– lucky you. I’m 5′5 and 125 lbs and if I eat over 1200 cals a day –I gain. (And I exercise 5 days a week)!!!

  80. Claire | 8/03/10

Maria – I don’t in any way think they should be telling people they starve themselves, I just think they should be a bit more honest and not go on about how they eat 5 times a day. They could just say they watch what they eat, there is no need for them to say they eat nothing, just like there is no need for them to say they eat loads.
Perhaps they are lucky enough to look like that without dieting, but I personally don’t buy it. And i’ve had enough of celebrities (like Nicole Richie) suddenly losing loads of weight and claiming they still eat like a horse.

  81. Kokaile | 8/03/10

Alessandra considers herself as curvy?! Yeah sure. Has there been a new definition of being curvy? Whatsoever… I’ve seen an online poll on the question “do you think Alessandra is curvy?” and overwhelmingly 89% voted for “no”.

  82. k girl | 8/03/10

she meant 5 glasses of water! duh

  83. Matilda | 8/03/10

    Five raisins?

  84. spanktacular | 8/03/10

i believe them but at the same time i dont care what she eats or how often

  85. missy | 10/03/10

wow i couldn’t imagine being their size and still being rejected for being to big…the fashion industry is a strange world.

  86. non | 14/03/10

Yep, she eats 5 times a day alright.

Then promptly throws it all back up
