if I’m going to be exercising for 2+ hours in the morning (on an empty stomach), I NEED my coffee. I will have zero motivation/energy/willpower if I don’t drink it. However, if I’m only exercising for say an hour or less right when I get up, I’m fine with just water. Also, pure apple juice (no sugar added) works just as well as coffee.. but it has more calories than coffee of course..
on another note, isn’t it really hot right now in LA?? why is she wearing all those clothes?!? I’d be almost naked, lol!
I don’t get that at all!!! If anything I’d rather do the workout, have lots of water, cool down and then maybe an hour later get a coffee. I think if I drank a hot coffee first I’d be sick when exercising, especially if it was really milky

caffeine is not good for exercise because it might make your heart rate fluctuate, which could cause complications. it’s benefits are that you don’t get tired and you feel less pain. i like caffeine before a workout.
I LOVE coffee and I drink it all the time, but it’s also JUST water when I exercise.

Coffee prerun for me, I can’t run with things in my hands. Maybe the coffee was during her warm up. Wonder the distance she runs,,,

I actually saw her last Friday night and she is thin. Thinner than the pics (Since camera does adds some LB). Coffee give you energy and speed up your heart rate (plus its zero calories…dark coffee that is and nothing else)
I workout daily (lots of cardio) and will never drink coffee. Once was enough…vomit. If your heart rate isn’t really elevated perhaps it would not be an issue but who runs/weight trains and doesn’t get their heart rate up?

I drink water but I have heard of coffee helping to burn more calories during workouts.

I think they are trying to get a caffeine rush to fuel the run. I sometimes will drink a cup an hour or so before I go but not while I run. That does seem a little odd.

Coffee speeds the metabolism – maybe that’s why they do it – as an extra boost or something? On the flip coffee is very dehydrating so they’d wanna have a bottle of water near by.

Coffee up to 30 mins before can increase endurance and exercise threshold (sometimes I’ll have a small coffee before going for a run, might be psychological but I swear it helps!), but during?! Weird. My stomach couldn’t handle that.

Coffee will dehydrate you and make you want to pee (diuretic effect). Best to go with water and AFTER your run, a tea with a little milk is fine. If speeding up metabolism is a goal, then carrot juice before a run is best. Coffee isn’t. Remember that Vitamin A cleanses a fatty liver too, so drink up some carrot juice if you are issues with this as well!

Looks like only her trainer is drinking coffee? She looks like shes working really hard and not just working out for show like some stars. She looks very toned, especially her legs!

Leonie is right and a lot of exercise drinks have caffeine in them… try “muscle milk” sometime! Some peer reviewed studies have proven that caffeine 30 min pre work out is helpful as long as you stay hydrated. Personally, I have coffee in the morning because I’m addicted (sadly) to my morning cup, plus it may just be a nice reward for actually getting out there and exercising!
i get the “caffeine exercise thing,” but that’s in the compilation of a balanced whole that i am. i’m a hydrated woman in general and i work out 6-7 days per week with vigor. i eat well and drink regluarly for my sweat output. before a workout, i have a double shot of espresso which puts my cardio-workout to the edge and i burn well accordingly. the novice may smirk or samely not understand. . .all OK, i don’t care really. but for a girl who gets more done than most before 9AM, i LOVE a shot of espresso before a 1.5 hr. cardo sesh to keep my strong, lean, 152 lb. frame of muscle and womanhood. ugh!!!!!

hmm weird with the coffee… ok, caffeine DOES speed up the metabolism, but the question is; how much? I don’t think it does any significant difference… kind of stupid, like the jogging itself isn’t enough? WATER FTW!

The coffee is a mystery to me too! When I drink anything but coffee straight before a workout (and especially before a run, where your stomach is being jostled about), I either feel very sick, or get a stitch. And also, if you work out really hard (and she should, if she’s got a trainer) then she’ll be gasping for water! Seems mad to me, but then I don’t live in LA…
To me, it looks like she might have gained a bit of weight round her middle since she did her underwear campaign and the dance show? When she’s in peak condition, she looks absolutely amazing!

Actually, coffee does not dehydrate: that is a mythe.
I would never drink coffee during a workout though. Water keeps you cool and going!

when i work out in the morning before having breakfast i always buy some coffee just to push my cardiovascular system. and i have water before and after working out.

Coffee only helps you burn an extra 40-100 kcals per day no matter how much you drink it, so i doubt it’s the metabolism thing. Also, if you’re used to drinking coffee a lot, your body get’s accustomed to it, and it doesn’t dehydrate you like it would a person who doesn’t usually drink coffee, so actually various sources say you can add it to your daily amount of water intake, instead of having to drink an extra glass of water for every cup of coffee you drink, like some recommend to do. But i still drink water when i work out

i love her body. as for the coffee, my friend and i always (and i mean always, it’s pathological) have to drink a cup of coffee before we start climbing (if we’re climbing indoors of course). so maybe it’s some sort of a ritual she has with her coach, they share a cup of coffee before they start to do serious exercise, and then switch to water.

Maybe coffee gives her an energy boost. Before I work out, sometimes I need a little carb action to give me some energy to last the workout and put in all I got. Water is refreshing but doesn’t boost my energy. I still don’t drink coffee though.

That is redonkulous! How can you run with a take away coffee? Nuts I totally agree that when I work out I only like cold water. This leads me to believe she isn’t really working that hard and this is a press thing. However she does obviously work out because she is very slim and toned so good for her. This comment is a mess sorry!
I used to run college track and had to volunteer at a few X-country meets. A lot of the runners, including the professionals would come check in to the meet with cup of coffee in their hands. These were big qualifying meets with Olympic caliber runners from all over the world sometimes. I never asked (some didn’t speak English), but maybe there is something to it.
Actually, there have been studies showing that coffee before exercizing improves performance. I know that it definitely helps me when I exercize by keeping me going at it longer.

Interesting opinions on the coffee/water workout thing. I just know that I’d probably suffer dehydration if I drank coffee before or during a workout, I tend to ‘dry up’ pretty easily. But I guess everyone is different!

Running + Drinking Coffee (or heck, HOLDING coffee) = accident waiting to happen! Crazy!! I hope they’re super coordinated, that coffee would be sloshing all over the place if it were me.
She looks fit, toned and healthy, and I even think her face looks good considering she’s entirely make-up free.

coffee is only VERY dehydrating, to an extent that it’ll danger you,if you drink constantly more than 300mg per day over a long, long time. in average, a cup of coffee usually contains about 30 to 100mg, depending on how strong you make it.so, you do the maths. the body shows negative reactions(like insomnia,headache aso) at around 1g consumed. sure, everyone reacts differently and has a different consumption level and someone who is not used to drink coffee on a constant basis will react more quickly and stronger on huge amounts of coffee.
my point is: of course, coffee has some sort of draining effects in matters of affecting so. diuretcly in the short-run. but still, it is dehydrating harmfully only when being consumed in large amounts regularly.
a few espresso shots before hand, but during the workout, most definately water, i dont know how she can run that short a time after coffee. she looks far better when she doesnt intend to. her voice though -cringe- i’m from the uk, and she epitomises a certain type, i hope people dont get the wrong idea of yorkshire

I just dont find her attractive at all. So manly! Loathe six packs on women. Yes she is fit, but with all the excessive working out her body is producing too much testosterone.

Um, just the thought of coffee + running makes me have to go #2 since either of those things on their own can have that effect. I’m on Team Water for this one. She looks fab, regardless!
Coffee is good for runners according to all the recent data that has come out…not only does it help energize but also takes the edge off pain, not to metion it helps you “empty out” before a run. Someone above mentioned it isn’t good…it’s only not good if you are drinking a couple cups. But one before a run is fine. However everyone is different and while coffee works for me it might not work for you!
i don’t understand the whole coffee thing either… it’s hot so you can’t drink it quickly AND it just dehydrates you further. Thanks, but I’ll stick with water.

Sometimes it’s not coffee in those cups. I know a lot of people who just put hot water in a cup as it’s a psych to your mind that you have something warm in your hand like a cup of joe.
coffee gives me an energy burst but it makes me crash really quickly, especially after excercise and i feel drained. i drink fizzy drinks instead, which i admit are no better.

I always have a lot of caffeine before my workout and it’s necessary for me to drink because I need a kick. Though I wouldn’t drink it during…caffeine is a diuretic so it makes you pee a lot, thus potentially making you dehydrated if you’re not drinking enough before, during, and after your workout. So you got to be drinking lots of water!

lol, drinking coffee while running? I couldn’t drink coffee DURING the run (duh), I would drink it about 30 min before, followed by water, followed by a quick bathroom break lol, THEN I would start my run.. and I’ve done 18-mile runs with absolutely no water or anything during the run (since there were no water fountains and I’m not going to carry a bottle around cuz it’s annoying).

the coffee is a necessity with me, the caffeine does help give you that jolt of energy, that push that we sometimes need, I’ve been drinking coffee since I was very young and is one thing I will not give up, I’ll give up drinking before I give up coffee. Wait…I should think about that…LOL
