i love adam sandler no matter if he doesn’t have a six pack or looks like all he does is work out… hes funny and seems like a genuine, nice guy and that is more attractive than a six pack

Adam is not what I would call attractive; however, he is able to get away with it since he is funny. I think Milo Ventimiglia and Daniel Henney are really attractive.

Adam Sandler is not a male model and has never tried to market himself as a hottie/hunk or anything like that. He’s a great comedian and talented at what he does. Male celebs don’t get scrutinized like the females anyway.

she said she wasn’t being serious you guys… also, i agree there might be a slight double standard when it comes to looks between men and women, but the leading men are under quite a scrutine nowadays too (and just in normal everyday life, my gosh how hard some men i know work for their looks), and almost all of the commenters said Adam wasn’t even hot. I think many actresses wouldn’t like to hear most men say “nah, she’s not beautiful but’s got a great personality”. Not the types of Aniston at least.. Adam isn’t really ever playing the romantic lead, but the wacky comedic type. Female actors can play those parts (or the serious drama) too and not be in super shape if they want to. And there are those. Kathy Bates for one has ahd an awesome career imo, and it has never been based on looks solely. That’s how i see it anyways.
astrid, they think it’s pretty damn cool, actually, that I came up with such a unique idea for a blog that other people have copied it many times over, not to mention that I make a great salary, can and do donate to worthy causes (needy families and animal charities) and help family and friends when they need it. And yes, I am indeed proud (and grateful) of this.
My mom would be proud if she was alive to see it!

@Emily, even though Sandler mostly (though not only, he’s succeeded at heavier stuff, too, actually) plays the ‘wacky comedic type’ he usually gets the girl in those movies. So he’s obviously considered sexy and it’s not based on his looks, whereas I got the feeling that for an actress to be considered ‘hot’ and marketable she HAS to fit the bill physically. Of course there are great actresses like the one you mentioned but they are not usually portrayed as very desirable; so I think it’s fair to say there IS a double standard, even though guys have started taking care of their bodies, too, like you said, which is only fair.
What I find sad is that a lot of women seem to be able to find a man attractive even if he’s physically far from perfect and men mostly don’t feel that way about women. Though I hope I’m wrong about that.

But yes, the physical / aesthetical side of the industry is propably more demanding on women.
Lol. I love him. Maybe he’s not a male model but he’s hysterical. I think he looks pretty good esp. for his age. Also I’ve dated male models and personally I’d much rather go out with someone who knows how to have a good time and isn’t so preoccupied with his appearance all the time. I’m not saying all guys in that field are vain but the one’s I was with sure were:)

@Polly – idk if he’s on set or not, but the appearance of his abs could very well be the result of makeup. for photoshoots and films they often paint on contour lines to give the appearance of muscle definition where there is none. but it is possible he looks like that naturally.

Well said Rian. IMO The Skinny Website contributes to the debate on the portrayal of body image in the media. Besides that, it’s fun too. Instead of simply putting the content down, Astrid could try to write something useful.

i also have been looking at this site since the beginning, although i didn’t start commenting until very recently. you definitely have improved it over time and try to promote an atmosphere of respect for both commenters and the people pictured. good for you for making it lucrative while never being crude, and you deserve to have the people close to you be proud.
we all know this is shallow. but celebrities put themselves in the position to be scrutinized about their physical appearance among other things. their profession requires it… and i don’t think anyone on here takes it seriously.

@ Rian don’t let others bother you. This is an awesome site. I make sure that I check it at least once everyday. What is the difference between picking up a magazine and looking at celebrities posted there then checking them out on a website?
Anyways, I find it funny how the pressure for female celebrities to be skinny is far more intense than it is for male celebrities. Don’t get me wrong, I think Adam Sandler is a cutie but if a female celebrity was to walk out in a bathing suit with a body like his, it would be on the front cover of every magazine of how disgusting she looks or the shame she should have for letting herself go. I have this argument a least once a week with my male friends about the unjustness of how male celebrities can get away without having a six pack or being fully muscular and still be considered hot, sexy, alluring etc. While on the other hand if a female celebrity is not a size 0 or 2 then they are not considered attractive, look at Jessica Simpson or Kelly Clarkson. It’s a shame because it is effecting the way society looks at themselves and I am not talking about teenagers (although that is important) I’m looking at women from their mid 20’s and older. Some women think that if they are to have any chance in finding a compatible mate they are going to have to look like one of these celebrities who are a size 0. On a personal note, I have had a guy tell some mutual friends of mine that he would ask me on a date if I was 20lbs. lighter, so that I would look more like a Jessica Alba. The funny part is this guy is about +50lbs overweight. I guess that’s life.

Janice, I find that surprising. Here in my city you have more chances to find a boyfriend if you are chubby. I have never heard a guy saying “she’s too fat”, but I often hear “that girl is pretty, looks nice, etc… too bad she’s so thin!”
And I don’t even know one overweight girl who’s single (or has been single for a long while), but many skinny girls in this situation. I’m Italian by the way.
