Good for her! I applaud anyone with the dedication to train for and complete such an arduous event.

  2. nina | 13/09/10

Her face looks scary in the first photo! Otherwise she looks good. Her body looks better than ever, she looks so healthy, and happy!

  3. Joe | 13/09/10

Oh. I have a problem with that makeup :-/

  4. Jade | 13/09/10

Her face is creepy, she looks like a witch. I don’t like her body shape but she looks the best she can, without being too skinny.

  5. b | 13/09/10

WOW! Go TH, looks great. Look at those curves. Keep it, girl, you look great.

  6. teebee | 13/09/10

her makeup is HORRIBLE. but good for her i guess…

  7. Cindy18 | 13/09/10

Not the most flattering outfit. lol. She looks great and good for her for doing this!!

  8. connieculkins | 13/09/10

What’s up with the annoying trend of aging women trying to prove themselves by competing in marathons and triathalons. Then they all seem so exuberantly happy afterwards, but it’s like, no sorry, you’re still getting old.

  9. morticia | 13/09/10

i think it’s crazy that she has a full face of obviously water-proof make up on to compete in a charity triathalon…vain much? and this from a woman who posts her “wrinkles” on twitter…barf!

  10. Christine C | 13/09/10

Maybe she thought she was compromising? After all, if she’d worn no makeup at all, people would probably comment on how awful she looks without it. It seems like she’s damned if she does, and damned if she doesn’t. Otherwise, I’m not a fan, but she looks happy and healthy (if not a bit like Danielle from RHONJ). Good for her for participating in the event!

  11. Kat | 13/09/10

Good for her! But why where makeup and pearl earrings? Wonder what distance she did. For someone with 0% body fat it would have been even harder than the ave person to do it!

  12. Mickey Von Dutch | 13/09/10

She was undoubtely asked to participate in this event for raising awareness. This means that she is there in a formal capacity, so the make-up makes total sense. No 40 plus year old woman would want a picture of herself makeupless and with wet hair in the family album (I would kill for less), let alone in all the media.

  13. Mel | 13/09/10

Nice body, but scary botox face.

  14. Shel | 13/09/10

She looks great with those curves, so much better than her super skinny days.

  15. thinmama | 13/09/10

She has actually done at least one triathlon before; I saw her exercise regimen in Prevention magazine. She’s really dedicated, and I’m sure didn’t do this even just a promo appearance. I can see why she wore the makeup – I’m not a celebrity, and I still compete in duathlons with waterproof mascara and lipstick! (don’t think she needs earrings, though). Her body looks awesome, but her face is definitely looking witch-like as she gets older. I think a shorter ‘do would suit her face better too.

  16. nilski | 13/09/10

Re: An above comment, I hardly see it as an “annoying trend of aging women trying to prove themselves by competing in marathons and triathlons.” On the contrary. Good for them for doing their best to maintain a healthy body and spirit as they age. What is the alternative? Sitting around, getting fat and letting themselves go? Does it become “annoying” for one to be healthy after she has reached 35? What a ridiculous idea. I do agree, however, her make-up is a bit much for the event, but great for her for competing in this event and finishing with a smile!

  17. elysie | 13/09/10

She’ll post a scary picture of herself on twitter for the world to see with no makeup on but then she completes a triathlon with full makeup. I just don’t get Hollywood.

  18. MScotton | 13/09/10

I agree with AnnieC. Maybe I’ll look up her time, she has to be in great shape though, jealous of the tri.

  19. southerngumdrops | 13/09/10

nilski: i couldn’t agree with you more. yes, the full face of makeup is super unnecessary but i’m glad she’s staying active, fit and healthy!!

  20. yo | 13/09/10

Something about her… I think it’s the wrinkley neck.. She’s very thin and obviously healthy. Too much makeup tho for this!

  21. Phoebe | 13/09/10

i guess of all the things i could find “annoying”, among that list is not going to be 40 year old women competing in marathons, etc., especially if they are doing it for charity. if i made that comment i’d be ashamed of myself as a human being.

  22. Phoebe | 13/09/10

gorgeous, and good for her! i love seeing ANY woman or man going the extra mile to stay fit and do something he or she loves. some people embrace their age and do more of this as they get older.

  23. peanut gallery | 13/09/10

    yep, agree with nilski.
And as someone in the 35-39 age group, I love to beat the younger women in marathons…but am usually trying to beat the men.
Also, I wear under-eye concealer in events, makes me feel a lot better!

  24. sophia | 13/09/10

To all you who are being negative: When I do competitive races I wear waterproof makeup. I’ll bet when you go to the gym or go swimming you do as well. How dare anyone criticize this woman for wearing makeup, for her makeup not looking perfect or for being ‘old’ and exuberant for doing a triathalon. For goodness sakes! You must have no idea of what excessive effort goes into training, how difficult or what a significant accomplishment a triathalon is. Professional athletes wear waterproof makeup. Competing in a triathalon requires the physical training of a professional athlete. And professional athletes retire well before they’re this ladies’ age. GOOD FOR HER! PERIOD.

  25. Cecilia | 13/09/10

I know this isn´t her first time and I´m impressed by people pulling it through.

  26. mostlyfit | 13/09/10

wow the hideous comment about annying older women trying to prove themselves. clearly you know NOTHING about endurance sports. It’s an older athletes game. the 35-45 age range is far more competitive than the younger set.

For her body to look that great in a wetsuit, it has to be absolutely amazing. Good for her. But that much makeup and the bling? Really?

  27. yo | 13/09/10

Seems like everyone’s taking things a bit too seriously. Esp for being on a website all about the shallowness of being thin haha, stop bashing connie for her opinion.

  28. Celeste | 13/09/10

Oh my gosh, who gives a crap if she’s wearing makeup? I wear makeup to the gym…most women I see there are wearing makeup too, even in the morning when they aren’t necessarily coming from somewhere else. She has the perfect body for this suit…she’s so thin in ordinary clothing. Only a rail-thin frame could look so good in this.

  29. Phoebe | 13/09/10

The “annoying 40 somethings that are too exhuberant” comment deserves to be criticized…by everyone. it’s hard for me to imagine thinking that much less writing it for teh world to see. In hindsight, I’m hoping it was kind of a joke…although still not funny.

  30. kimchi | 13/09/10

Just wait till most of you girls on this site near 40.

  31. syrah | 13/09/10

i think her body looks better in the wetsuit than in clothes!

  32. syrah | 13/09/10

and YAY for strong and athletic women!

  33. brandy1000 | 13/09/10

    OMG! Really people!
Yes how dare this woman live her life and look happy about it (she says sarcastically)
    Come on!

  34. nin | 13/09/10

Body-wise, looks much healthier, but I miss the Terri from Lois and Clark, who was rather stunning…back then. The dieting has aged her incredibly.

  35. OliviaRose | 13/09/10

I don’t understand the makeup comments, but I think she looks fabulous weight-wise. Although I’m assuming this is something of a sprint triathalon, this is quite and accomplishment at any age. She is very inspiring.

  36. Ali Minh | 14/09/10

    Good for her!

  37. progressivelements | 14/09/10

Looking at these photos and then looking at some of the negative comments… the disconnect is unreal! Shame on the negative commenters. Go Teri!

  38. Christine C | 14/09/10

    Kimchi, my thoughts exactly!

    Signed,
    the 35 – 45 Crowd

  39. minx | 14/09/10

good for terri!! and love her smile, i think it was this that made her such a hit back on lois and clark.
the only thing i would say was I was amused by the jewellry and makeup. yes tennis players do it and girls at my gym do it, and i still don’t get it. i get so ridiculously bright red it would be pointless. besides isn’t it nice that there is somewhere to go where you dont care what you look like?

  40. Matilda | 14/09/10

@connieculkins: I don’t see why it annoys you when a woman over 40 competes in a marathon (or triathlon). Last time I went to a marathon we had men and women aged 70+ who ran the whole distance. They are not doing this to stop the ageing process, they are doing this to keep fit and healthy and raise money for charity. You see, we all know that we are getting older, no matter what we do. Even you do! LOL

  41. Connie | 14/09/10

Good for her. She looks fit & healthy. I don’t care that she wore make up and jewelry, but it could’ve been softer color lipstick. As for being “old”, if you’ve got it, flaunt it! I am a 37 yr old professional dancer! :)

  42. retrobanana | 14/09/10

i am glad she keeps doing these triathalons….so much dedication and hardwork she deserves to feel great about herself

  43. connieculkins | 14/09/10

The fact of the matter is that it is no coincidence that Teri H was an anorexic and now suddenly she is ‘cured’ of that and is a triathlete. I can see it in her smile. It’s the ‘I want to have control over what I cannot control’ smile. And what is it that she can’t control, well, obviously her aging face, body, beauty, etc. And she thinks she can get that back through sheer effort and pain all the while claiming she just cares about her health. And is there any data that shows that one needs to be in triathlons/marathons to be healthy or live a longer life? There is such a thing as exercising in moderation to achieve a long and healthy life without overdoing it, sustaining injuries and actually aging faster from overexercising.

  44. mostlyfit | 14/09/10

    dear connie.

First: Of course you don’t have to do any kind of race to be healthy. Staying active is what keeps people healthy. Training for races requires someone to be active & therefore healthy.

Second: Triathlons come in all distances from the shortest, a Sprint which is what the celebs like Terri do at Malibu, all the way to Ironman. A sprint tri is in absolutely no way extreme. It’s an accomplishment, but not extreme. Oh right, racing is about feeling a sense of accomplishment. Great natural high.

Third: Training for a race is not about misery and control. It is a lot more fun than going to the gym just to burn calories, because you exercise with a sense of purpose.

Lastly, you made a pretty rank comment and catching flack for it. Deal with it.

    kimchi: no kidding. ha!

  45. Annie | 14/09/10

It annoys someone when an older woman competes in a marathon or triathalon and then looks ecstatic? Yes, well the nerve of some people for being strong and healthy and not being 21! They should be banished to the land of Nevermore! I admire the heck out of anyone that does this. It amazes me when I do a 5 mile hike and want to pass out that people 10+ years older than me could blow me out of the water. And, agreed, her makeup is too much. A lighter hand would have been better but I can’t imagine the scathing commentary had she gone sans makeup! Love the curves. Glad she’s not uber-skinny anymore. She looks great.

  46. Bada | 14/09/10

    Congratulations, Teri! You look good!

  47. snoops | 15/09/10

why all the negative comments about her makeup? She is doing something very positive for a worthwhile cause and yet instead of being applauded she is being critisized for something as superficial as her makeup? how many of you here have competed in a triathlon for charity? Seriously, to sit on your butt behind a computer screen and criticize another person for wearing makeup when shes doing something which takes a lot of effort and doing it to help raise money and awareness for a charitable cause – its a bit warped!

  48. Chris Weinkauff | 15/09/10

Well, here is my 2 cents. I am 44 and I participated in the Malibu Sprint Tri on Sunday along with Teri Hatcher and about 3000 other people of variable ages. 1511 of us finished and I am proud to be in that group. It was my first triathlon and it was a blast. It isn’t extreme at that distance– extreme would be an Ironman!! I stay active, as I always have, because I enjoy exercise and the physical and psychological benefits of it. Doing a triathlon is just a new and interesting way of continuing to exercise with a goal. I don’t care about how thin I am or am not, how good I look while competing or what anyone else thinks. I do it for me, for my good health and for my kids so I will be around a long time for them. I happen to think that is a pretty healthy approach to life! Whether Teri Hatcher looks too old, too skinny, too made up–well, she is a celebrity and there will always be someone available to criticize. I didn’t show up in makeup that day– it was too darn early for it, but I also didn’t have to worry about anyone being interested in taking photographs of me! LOL. That water was cold Sunday morning, so more power to her for getting out there and swimming in it with the rest of us.

  49. Megan | 15/09/10

I dislike Terri Hatcher but she’s always smiling and looks happy. Good for her for being so athletic.

  50. urbansunflower | 15/09/10

congrats on the tri Teri but why would you do a triathlon with makeup on? Seriously?

  51. chris | 15/09/10

oh come on she knew that she’d be photographed to death – so of course she wears make-up – otherwise her face would be plastered in the tabloids saying mean things about her – you know – like we do ;)

  52. Phoebe | 15/09/10

i totally agree Chris. if she doesn’t wear makeup, she would get criticized and made fun of. if she does wear makeup, she gets criticized for it…it’s a no win situation but lucky for her, she worked her butt of and probably doesn’t care. i think if you work hard to do something like a tri, you could do it in a tutu and those that didn’t compete should keep their mouths shut about how you looked doing it…but that would mean none of us would get to comment, sooo….

  53. Phoebe | 15/09/10

connieculkins are you saying that people shouldn’t do triathalons? or people who used to be anorexic shouldn’t do them? or people who are 40 or over shouldn’t do them? i am not really sure what you are trying to say. it seems like you think you know a lot about ms. hatcher, enough to tear her and other 40 somethings down for being tremendous athletes. would you be happier if she was just shopping? i don’t really get your point.

  54. Priscilla | 16/09/10

Hello, she did not do the whole triathlon. She only did the 1/2 mile swim course and then she stood around taking pictures and who cares if she had make-up.

  55. Matilda | 16/09/10

@Chris Weinkauf: Congratulations to being in the group that finished! I’ve not done a triathlon yet but I’m seriously thinking about it.
Thinking about how I look when I train is the last worry I have ;-) I’m more occupied with catching my breath LOL!

  56. capricorn17 | 17/09/10

    you know what?
for critics all i have to say is that going out to an athletic event and making an effort is 1000x better than having surgery or other false ways of being active…GO TERI!!!

  57. Lisa | 17/09/10

Running a triath seems like it would be a lot of fun. I’d love to try it one day!

She looks pretty in the last pic.

  58. Jemima.J | 18/09/10

At what point do you become aging? Technically everyone is aging, its what happens as time passes! When do you remove yourself from society so you do not offend others, 25..30..35..40…? Maybe only attractive people in their teens should be allowed out of the house or do anything challenging with their lives. Oh wait.. I guess I should get my slippers out!

  59. m | 19/09/10

    Good for her. =)
