    Wow, scary…

  2. geeksupremo | 15/02/11

I love Coco! But her make up doesn’t look good here.

  3. carrie | 15/02/11

Eww looks white and too skinny. You can see it in her face. she is too thin. it looks like she has white makeup on to appear more pale than she is

  4. Maggie | 15/02/11

holy crap! someone is a walking skeleton now. Not that she wasn´t before, but still looked somehow healthier. The pressure to lose some more weight definitely broke her.

  5. Denise | 15/02/11

This woman does not look well. Pale, thin and unhealthy. It’s a shame she won a Best Model award looking this way because it sends a horrible message.

  6. Lindah | 15/02/11

she looks like an anorexic corpsebride. Or something. NOT nice. Bad choice outfit!

  7. lele | 15/02/11

    AMAZNG ALIEN!!

  8. MaryK | 15/02/11

    skeleton

  9. Mandii | 15/02/11

    Ewww, Ewww, Ewww!!!

  10. Hanna | 15/02/11

What happend with this amazing and beautiful girl????

  11. leopardgirl | 15/02/11

She looks so old in the face (due to be so skinny) and simply frightening!

  12. clark kent | 15/02/11

looks like death. but, like a model.

  13. Jess | 15/02/11

Hmm, Coco was always one of the healthiest models. I think the angles are making her appear thinner here, as she has never been scary skinny before. Either that or she lost weight.

  14. Rory Rae | 15/02/11

Eeekkk!!! She does not look good! Hopefully she gets some help for it and begins to look a little healthier. I understand the importance of thin models (literally, they are suppose to be clothese hangers because they don’t want to draw attention away from the clothese to focus on womanly curves) but this is not helping! Its drawing attention away from the clothes and onto the thinness of the model. She has the potential to be beautiful, but this size it not doing it for her. Poor girl…hope she can fight it.

  15. Rory Rae | 15/02/11

Wow, I just realized I used an incorrect spelling for clothes :|

  16. s.o. | 15/02/11

She’s like from a horror movie.

  17. Fashionismyeverything | 15/02/11

    haha okay wtf happend..
first she told the fashion world that she thought it was redicilous that models had to be very skinny.. now she isnt eating at all… haha… strange girl ;/

  18. renee | 15/02/11

I agree with Denise. Bad message to send.

  19. syrah | 15/02/11

RaRRR! she’s got some wild-thang eye make-up going on. kinda reminds me of my Siouxsie Sioux goth days in 1988. too thin.

  20. syrah | 15/02/11

Rory, are you a guy or a girl? i love that name and know it can be used for both boys and girls. my girl cousin’s name is Rori.

  21. Tara | 15/02/11

Oh my god. Wasn’t she unable to get jobs cause she was not a superduperscaryskinny model, well, she is right now. Sad.

  22. nilski | 15/02/11

Until I read the comments, I seriously thought this post was a joke. Sorry, but me sitting here in my flannel blue leopard pajamas, poodle slippers, and smeared make-up from last night looks better than that! Gonna Google her for Runway Pics so I can understand Elle’s choice!

  23. dumdum | 15/02/11

as with most runway models, she just screams E.D.. First photo is scary…looks like across between Heidi Fleiss and Lara Flynn Boyle.

  24. beeeeeeeans | 15/02/11

Wow, she’s lost a lot of weight. Some of you may remember her as the model who wasn’t being hired because she got up to a size 4. She was hardly in any of the runway shows last season because of it. She looks deathly skinny now, so I bet we’ll see more of her on the runway. While she was always slim, she now look sick. There’s a difference between healthy, glowing pale and sick, drained color pale and she’s got the latter. Her features are so sharp now. Hope she’s OK.

  25. ale | 15/02/11

WÆÆÆÆ!!!! THE SCELETON OF AUDREY HEPBURN IS ALIVE!!!!

  26. thompsonsm4 | 15/02/11

she looks scary…and sick…I really hope its just bad pics, but if not I hope she gets some help asap

  27. bd53 | 15/02/11

someone said i look like her and i don’t take that as a compliment. she looks creepy and way too skinny.

  28. anna | 15/02/11

how can a unhealthy skin and bones ghost like this win the award..my god….she looks soooooo sad and unhealthy even if she is smiling….must be in pain from the inside from a EATING DISORDER
    soo sad

  29. Sam | 15/02/11

    She looks like an OAP!

  30. siennagold | 15/02/11

    Yikes too skinny. Scary.

  31. T | 15/02/11

Her skin has a gray color to it; this can be caused by malnutrition/lack of nutrients and is often seen in anorexics.

    D:
She looks far too thin and flat out unhealthy.

  32. Rian | 15/02/11

Hey all, please keep the website rules in mind when commenting on this post. Cruel and excessively mean comments are not allowed! Thanks. :)

  33. hay | 15/02/11

Wow! She looks a lot skinnier than usual here. Her face looks very different. She looked better before.

  34. Jules | 15/02/11

I agree with T, ive lived with two girls that had eating disorders, and their skin turned this exact colour and they started getting fine hair all over their body. you can kind of seen a sheen on this models face that could be fine little white hairs.

  35. TheRealTee | 15/02/11

pasty, pasty… i don’t know models so I’ve never heard of her either

  36. ohlly | 15/02/11

    omg this looks so sad!

she is one of the most beautiful models i pray she has someone who cares for her and tells her that her days are numbered if she keeps doing what she does

  37. sweetnsour | 15/02/11

I remember when models used to be pretty….

  38. Emily | 15/02/11

I think the lighting makes her look paler than she is, or maybe rather hihglights it. In an unflattering way. Also, not liking the hair, and she suits being a readhead or a different shade of brunette better imo, that color is a little bit mousy. Seems to have lost weight too, or then the pics i’ve seen of her have just been photoshopped to make her look softer, i know they do that quite often. In model pics she usually looks very beautiful anyways. Can’t really comment on her winning since i don’t follow that world much at all. I really like the dress she’s wearing although to me it would look better if you’d take the grandma’ out of it a bit by wearing an edgier hairdo, diff. make-up, shoes, something like that. I like her look even if she is on the thin side for my liking.

  39. morticia | 15/02/11

@sweetnsour…i remember those days too!! i forgot to mention what a poor message this sends to praise/award Coco as she stands there looking like this…I AM SO GLAD I DO NOT HAVE A DAUGHTER TO RAISE!!!

  40. Lolastarsandstripes | 15/02/11

Ok. Saw photos of her at same event on different websites and she looked ok in those.
I think it may just bee the flash and angles in this set of photos which make her look scary skinny.
    This set was just unfortunate.

  41. MsCotton | 15/02/11

I’d so rather look like her then Jennifer Hudson who must have suffered from Compulsive Over Eating Disorder.

  42. Kylie | 15/02/11

So i googled her..And I can hardly tell its the same person.. Its like those before and after pics with the meth heads.

  43. happygolucky | 15/02/11

I am so glad people here are responding this way!
This girl has seemed to be truly smart and interesting, so this is a big WTF. I only hope it’s a combination of bad make-up and distorted photo angles.
@morticia, I do have a daughter, who is only 7 now, and I do worry about the effect things like this will have on her once she starts to notice them.

  44. greenandorange | 15/02/11

I used to know this girl when she was a dancer. I can’t begin to describe how much this girl has changed herself for the modeling industry.
For example, she has suddenly developed an accent…?
Recently, she visited some local and national dance competitions, walking around the whole venue with her entourage acting like she was the best thing that has ever come out of dancing. She expects everyone to know who she is and is offended when someone asks her to introduce herself.
I’m sorry but this girl needs to take a break from the industry. I think she is an awesome model and has potential to be a good role model for younger girls… But she should look after that “big head” of hers.

  45. yo | 15/02/11

i wasn’t tryin to be mean with my unshown comment, but i am confused by her name.. did she choose it?? I know I’m not the only one thinking that..

  46. Jo | 15/02/11

The hair is making her look like an alien. This isn’t attractive at all…Poor thing.

  47. Kianna | 15/02/11

Don’t really know (or am familiar with) Coco Rocha. However, she looks totally skeletal & very very sickly, pale and totally unhealthy! (IMHO)!! She should not have become a “winning” model…sets a horrific example for other (hundreds) of young girls/women who idolize this clothes hanger look!

  48. jjj | 15/02/11

I feel sorry for her, bad photos being circulated to promote anti-thin. She looks great on stage when you look at photos of her that were lighted properly. These photos are all over exposed with a flash which is too bright. You can make anyone look like this with a bad photo, especially at night with a dark background.

  49. Runningonempty | 15/02/11

@Greenandorange: She has an accent because she’s CANADIAN!!! as am I, and let me tell you, our accent is highly ditinctive and we do have certain ”British” undertones if you will, in our speaking voice. Especially when we say certain words like ”Out” for example, we elongate the”O’’sound like a Brit. She’s not giving out a false pretension!

  50. happygolucky | 15/02/11

She reminds me of the actress Sally Hawkins here.

  51. mira | 15/02/11

okay… she looks like a Skeleton.
I have to admit that I have a bigger figure and want to slim down, but not like this! This is waaaay too much!

  52. Laura | 15/02/11

She was so beautiful the last year…Now she’s scary skinny…

  53. xlove76 | 15/02/11

She is 21 or 22 I just googled her. This is serious. I realize the industry desires rail thin women without curves, but many of the runway models are naturally freaks of nature body-wise. Clearly, this girl has resorted to starvation to stay employed. You can tell by looking at her face…I cannot stress enough to other women that losing to much weight will make your face look old and unnatractive. I hope she gets help.

  54. Bella | 15/02/11

    Looks corpse-like.

  55. Renee | 15/02/11

This is the longest I’ve ever looked at a post .. I keep scrolling back up to look at these photos.. this is very sad she really looks like a walking skeleton. And the fact that she’s being awarded looking like this is even scarier.. Did Elle make this decision 6 months ago when she was maybe heavier? that’s the only rational though that came to my head. Poor girl.

  56. Katlin | 15/02/11

Yikes! The nicest thing I can say, maybe someone that thin should wear their hair down instead of up and not wear such pale colors. Waaaayyy too thin.

  57. freakchild | 15/02/11

She looks ill… She needs a sandwich

  58. kesha | 15/02/11

wow, I am at a loss for words. This does send a horrible message. Not to be cruel or anything, but she definitely appears far from healthy!

  59. Daniella | 15/02/11

Wow, she used to be a size 2. She is looking like a minus size here. Is there a size 00?

  60. Leonie | 15/02/11

    Is she even alive?

  61. Becca | 15/02/11

I’m so glad to read your comments – people need to know that to look this way you are surviving on less than 500 calories a day and will speed up your ageing process, weaken your heart and give off the wrong message to young women especially.

  62. so | 15/02/11

I’ve seen healthier looking people at the morgue.

  63. Jade | 15/02/11

I’ve never heard of her before. I can’t tell what her body looks like, but I’m loving her pale skin.

  64. greenandorange | 15/02/11

    @Runningonempty

I’m Canadian as well… Indeed she used to “speak Canadian” before modeling but now in some interviews she suddenly develops an English/Irish accent. It’s funny though, when she’s on Canada’s Fashion TV she speaks normally.
She changes her accent depending on who is interviewing her.

  65. Kimzahe | 15/02/11

I don’t know who she is but I prefer watching healthier models such as Victoria’s Secret models.

  66. lmd | 15/02/11

She’s got really amazing bone structure in her face.

  67. Flor | 15/02/11

I love Coco! However, it’s very obvious she’s lost so much weight. It could be due to some of her appearances recently–but she’s always been one of the healthier/normally slim models.

  68. Madeleine | 15/02/11

I really have no idea who this girl is..But damn, she looks like a walking corpse! Makes me feel a little sad :( , mostly shocked though… I hope its just the make-up and choice of clothes that is making her look worse than she is.

  69. toot | 15/02/11

Amazing. Does Elle have an award for Still Alive and Even Walking? That’s the one she should get.

@Daniella- Yes, size 00 is now creeping in everywhere. Bloomingdales, the Gap and Banana Republic, to name a few, all carry size 00. No longer does one have to shop in Toddlers’ to get the right fit.

  70. sharon | 15/02/11

I’m horrified!!!!!! her face looks so very emaciated… like a true anorexic victim. Not saying she is… but if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck…

  71. Oksana | 15/02/11

She looks like a ghost here…

  72. Steph | 15/02/11

I’m would be laughing at how ridiculous she looks if I weren’t so frightened by it.

  73. orangebella | 15/02/11

Elle magazine, and many other magazines as well promote articles aimed at telling women to love ourselves and to be happy and healthy and then they go and give an award to a model who looks like death. Such hypocrites. I dont even bother with those magazines anymore.

  74. nico_ | 15/02/11

She is ill. There is a mental and physical illness here. And the sad thing is, she’s rewarded for it. That award is basically applauding her for dying.

  75. kirby | 15/02/11

When I had a series of stomach disorders, I looked like this, and my BMI was 14. Worst time in my life. Coco looks very, very sick, and it’s reassuring to see most of the comments on here see that instead of idolizing her emaciation.

  76. kirby | 15/02/11

By the way, no one’s neck looks that small, or face that sunken and angular, just because of angles and lighting.

  77. glj | 15/02/11

wow she looks emaciated. if you saw her in the street you’d stop and stare… for all the wrong reasons

i can’t believe Elle gave her the award for best model when their magazine is always promoting health and anti size zero

i can see her doing an interview in a couple of years saying how much she was pressured… how much modelling screwed her up… how she looks back at herself and thinks she looks bad…

i actually feel sorry for her :(

  78. glow | 15/02/11

Mscotton- is no one ever too skinny for you? Wow, instead of just admiting it, you have to go on about ‘fat’ people & better looking sickly skinny than fat, etc…
In all honesty, perhaps you should speak to a professional.

  79. MentallySkinny | 15/02/11

For all of you saying she is nasty and gross and “OMG how could she win, she’s so ugly?!” she is a super successful, gorgeous model and she usually doesn’t look so thin. Also, the make up and angles are not the best, AND she has battle anorexia in the past so the least you can do is google her before you say she “doesn’t deserve that award”. God help her from not having a roasted orange skin like “beautiful” women do.

  80. K | 15/02/11

    she’s not even pretty. :(

  81. sweets | 15/02/11

I love coco. Her cheeks have always had that high and hollow look. But that being said, these angles really make you think the industry is looking for and rewarding anorexia. It seems like the models have to get as close to sick looking without looking like they should be hospitalized, truly sad! It is so hard to be a woman in a world where that level of thinness is considered the most desirable…

  82. Kelly | 15/02/11

I understand that Rian does not want cruel comments. But this girl looks absolutely sick. There is no doubt in my mind that she is struggling with a crazy eating disorder. But congrats on the award & everything…

  83. spiloxena | 15/02/11

jjj I agree with you. I looked up other pictures from that night and she doesn’t look pale or scary. She is very thin but her face doesn’t look that boney or pale in pictures with better lighting. Also her body doesn’t look as thin in other shots that are taken straight on and not at an angle. I’m not saying Rain posted these pictures to make her look scary it was probably what was available.

  84. Sian | 15/02/11

I love Coco, she’s a great model, but I agree, these pics look alarming.

  85. kaybee | 15/02/11

OMG, she is waaaay too thin, to the point where I really think her beauty has been utterly diminished. I’m not trying to be cruel, but she really needs some sort of intervention before she has some very serious side effects from malnourishment, if it’s not too late already (osteoporosis, weakened heart, etc).

  86. Leonie | 15/02/11

And shes only 22…. poor girl

  87. Ophelie | 15/02/11

She’s a great model. She did an amazing spread for Elle France in fall 2010. She’s lost a significant amount of weight since then it seems. I do prefer her somewhat fuller. I suppose everyone will freak out if I say I love her legs?

  88. Erica | 15/02/11

    Girl needs a sandwich.

  89. syrah | 15/02/11

@ glow. . .oh snap! i agree with you girl, but have never said anything about it before. . . i’ve been too busy telling the skeletons to eat a burrito. LOL.

  90. maddy | 16/02/11

She’s at the weight where you start loosing control over bodily functions and will have serious health complications soon (if not already) Many anorexics who are severely (This is odd to explain as they are all underweight but I mean super low BMIs) underweight have to wear pads or even diapers once their weight gets so low. You can tell by her face that she is seriously malnurished. She is a sick girl who needs somebody in her life to step in before her heart gives out. When she is in ICU after heart failure and has a feeding tube down her nose suddenly this award will mean nothing to her

  91. Rory Rae | 16/02/11

@ Syrah…I am a girl and thanks! Its actually short for Aurora.

…As for everyone dicussing the hypocrisy of Elle Magazine with the promotion of “love yourself”…maybe they decided upon the award before she got this way…or at least that is what I’d like to believe.

  92. Vagabond | 16/02/11

    @ Kelly,

Why apologize for being honest? There’s a difference between cruelty and calling it as you see it. I think there is less wrong with descriptive commentary than with imploring niceties regarding a subject matter that is inherently superficial and weighs heavily on people’s insecurities.

Re: Coco, she honestly wouldn’t look so bad had she worn a dress that didn’t completely drain her of the little color that she has. This in combination with the extreme thinness really ages her. The above pics do not look like the pics of a woman in her early 20s. I assumed that she was young because the modeling industry likes them fresh out of the crib, but I would have guessed her age to be late 30s based on the picture alone.

  93. Mickey von Dutch | 16/02/11

    @lmd

“She’s got really amazing bone structure in her face.”

Are you by any chance writing this in your capacity as a forensic anthropologist?

  94. yin | 16/02/11

    ..but she looks happy :-)

  95. Kyra | 16/02/11

I have to say, it is a great relief to see so many of the people on this board are as horrified by this poor woman’s condition as I am. Dreadful that the fashion industry should demand she get so bony and unhealthy. I wish they would take a leaf out of Look magazine and start using normal sized women to model – that way I’m not cringing at the bones on display and can see how the clothes might look on me.

  96. Helen | 16/02/11

The fact that this scarecrow won an award really shows how messed up our world is. If this is beauty..then something is wrong.

  97. Holland | 16/02/11

    Incredibly sad…..poor girl…. :-(

  98. Celia | 16/02/11

Oh, you guys assuming she’s a 00, in what kind of distorted reality do you life? her agency states she has 34″ hips, that makes her a common size 4, the usual model clothing size. size 00 should be and hopefully still is something for very petite girls, like 5′ tall or less and it’s just fair because petite women also deserve to wear women’s clothing and not have to go to the children’s department.

  99. jess | 16/02/11

ive seen other photos from her at the event and she didn’t look as scary skinny
my friend is a runway model and she says that models really are tiny but it doesn’t always show in photos.
so this may be what she has always looked like but the photos never really showed it.

if you see the other photos of her from there she looks the same as before.

  100. Mel | 16/02/11

    yikes she is scary!!

  101. Kate | 16/02/11

Celia, she looks emaciated whether she is a size 00 or size 4! Anyway I thought 34″ hips were a size 0 or 2. I don’t know any ADULT women with less than 32″ hips which is a size 00 btw (p.s. just in case there’s any confusion I’m talking about the low hip measurement, i.e. around the butt/thigh bones).

  102. Kate | 16/02/11

She looks terribly emaciated. I wouldn’t be surprised if she WAS a size 00 these days, i.e. 30-22-32…she’s pretty much just skin and bones!

  103. Isabel | 16/02/11

“scary” is he first word that came to my mind.

  104. Isabel | 16/02/11

    *the first word. sorry!

  105. Creepy Doll | 16/02/11

Brrrr! She looks like a ghost!

  106. glj | 16/02/11

Celia just because the agency says that doesn’t mean it’s fact. what sort of distorted reality do you live in? where no-one ever lies!?
no way is she a size 4! i am and i’d look like a monster next to her

  107. ParkPlace | 16/02/11

A very pretty woman who has obviously lost way too much weight.
Who is deciding that this is what a model should look like?
I’m glad for her to have won, but it unfortunately is sending the wrong message in my opinion.

  108. rachel | 16/02/11

I really don’t know what to say. Aside from the obvious scary skinny description she looks really old and beyond her actual age. A bad look for her overall.

  109. Matilda | 16/02/11

I think make-up and hairstyle add to her looking very skinny. Apart from that she’s a great model, I’ve seen her in lots of campaigns and she’s so versatile. She’s a model, so yeah, she’s skinny. You ought to read her wiki page, very interesting.

  110. meg | 16/02/11

I honestly don’t think she looks too skinny. I think it’s jus tthe angle and the incredibly pale skin that gives her the ‘death’ look. IMO, she looks good.

  111. Celia | 16/02/11

@glj: you can only compare yourself to her, if you’re the same height otherwise it’s useless…
@those who say 34″ is a size 2 or less: sorry, I forgot, that vanity sizing is common in the united states so that all the big girls feel better about themselves … *sigh*

  112. Lucydi | 16/02/11

I love thin..but this model actually looks malnourished and unhealthy. I don’t know if it is her makeup, skin coloring, etc., but she really looks bad here.

  113. syrah | 16/02/11

vanity sizing is rampant, good point. at 5′11, i wear all kinds of sizes. . .8, 10 and even 12 during a PMS week. that being said, all my LuLu Lemon pants are 6-8. sorry i’m not a size 6 LuLu! same with Euro sizing. . .i have sizes 28-31 depending on the brand. i wish it were regulated, as shopping makes me tired!

  114. Jess | 16/02/11

I would not support Elle magazine for the fact that they awarded a walking-skeleton a beauty award.

  115. Ridiculous! | 16/02/11

OK, these comments have gotten downright ridiculous. The angle of the pictures are unfortunate; and even if they weren’t, this woman is just skinny. She isn’t dying. She is just THIN. I see people this skinny ALL THE TIME at the Yoga studios, people who are into Eastern disciplines, etc. People who eat lightly and focus on other things in life. People who are completely disciplined in all areas of life and prefer to have a light body that doesn’t weigh them down.

These comments are so sad, some of them come across as jealousy and envy, and the ones saying she is sick are just plain cruel. You do not know her, you do not know her life and not everyone has to be CURVY TO BE HEALTHY! So exasperating.

I can’t be the only one who thinks these comments are ridiculous?!

  116. lmd | 16/02/11

    Mickey von Dutch:

Totes am. Naw, but I really do think she has some nice angles to her face. Even though the rest of her body isn’t quite as beautiful.

And to be honest, you really can’t see how skinny she is. Her dress isn’t exactly skin tight. I’m sure she’d look fine if the flash from the camera wasn’t washing her out.

  117. Elena | 16/02/11

This is not just the fash from the camera washing her out. Pictures taken like that usually make you look bigger. So imagine if you were to encounter her in real life. Her face is normally quite full and now you can see all the bones. Now if she was a planes and angle type of girl….but she ISN’T. Well, guess we can add another one to the list of anorexics. Disappointing.

  118. leluelu | 16/02/11

They must have been so confused when THAT went up to get the award. She is such a beautiful model but something is going wrong here. Maybe drug use even.

I don’t mind her weight but she just looks unhealthy in the face, like she needs to drink a gallon water and a get a little vitamin D.

  119. Phantom Fashion | 16/02/11

I used to be that skinny–now I got curves and 10 times the attention than before!
Size 4 or a OO? I say size 2-4 is perfect

  120. MsCotton | 16/02/11

    @Glow
I never said I didn’t think she was extreemly thin (skinny). I simply said I’d rather look like this than be quite heavy (fat) which is just as unhealthy.

  121. Runningonempty | 16/02/11

Oh My God for the last time Coco is Canadian!!! We Canadian’s are generally smaller and skinnier due to genetics and high activity level — much more than you jealous morbidly obese Americans. The women’s clothing stores in Canada (Sirens,Le chateau ect.) generally don’t carry past a size three for that reason. Women are Generally SMALLER here, on average we’re about size zero; so Coco’s appearance wouldn’t phase anyone in Canada. Deal with it!!

  122. Runningonempty | 16/02/11

    faze* typo

  123. lisag | 16/02/11

Why is everyone assuming she’s starving herself? Maybe she just got over an illness… who knows. Anyway, she definitely looks emaciated. She looks like one of those “Dying to be thin” women on Dr. Phil that literally look like they are days away from death. I wonder what’s going on???

  124. Lola | 16/02/11

    And she won?
    Not a good example

  125. Natalia | 16/02/11

OMG… I just saw the face of Death…

  126. glow | 16/02/11

mscotton-the point is I don’t think anyone has heard you say that someone is too thin. I think if Rian posted a pic of a full body x-ray, instead of saying ‘wow, that is too skinny’ PERIOD. You would say ‘well, I’d rather look like that than be fat’. That is my point.
Syrah- I’ve noticed your burrito references- they always make me hungry!

  127. Karen | 16/02/11

This is horrific. This girl needs to get help – definate serious ED

  128. syrah | 16/02/11

Phantom Fashion. . .size 2-4 is perfect? for who? not at my height. i’d be DEAD if i were that skinny. i would call myself skanky skinny at that point. . .

  129. syrah | 16/02/11

What’s “Ridiculous” is that this frighteningly frail/thin look is being celebrated! this is a HORRIBLE message for young girls.

  130. kirby | 16/02/11

    @ Ridiculous:

yes, there are disciplined, healthy skinny people out there. However, in the modeling agency, it is well known that many of the women involved have eating disorders, and seeing as this particular model used to be larger and more youthful-looking and now has stretched-looking skin with her tendons showing through, I would not say she is not in the same group as your yoga buddies.

  131. kirby | 16/02/11

Also, I’m very happy for you smaller, thinner Canadians. Americans are often fat, but not all of us, you know.

  132. glow | 16/02/11

runninonempty-you do realize that not everyone who posts on here is American? In fact, many of us are not. If anyone sounds jealous it is people like you, who are just waiting for a chance to insult Americans.
According to many sources there is a growing epidemic of obesity in Canada, just like many places. Isn’t it something like 51% are obese? And they are not all male.
So continue with your insults & wishful thinking.

  133. glow | 16/02/11

Oh, excuse me.. according to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation, it is 60%, and still growing.

  134. elle | 16/02/11

she isn’t actually skinny, she is considered one of the more healthy girls in the industry… it’s just that she looks weird in these photos

  135. zhnjg | 16/02/11

she’s from my hometown, woot woot….

  136. zhnjg | 16/02/11

and to all my fellow Canadian commentators…please, people. Our accent isn’t “highly distinctive,” nor is our culture. It’s all but American, so push past the propaganda and move on. We aren’t “small-boned,” unless you’re from Richmond–like me–which is 99.99% Asian. I ran into plenty of obese Quebecquois on my vacation in Thailand last week. Don’t be silly and play up your vowels as if this makes us entirely foreign. Et, si tu ne parles pas francais assez bien, je me demande si t’es vraiment Canadien…????????????????Richmond?? Haha, that sums up Canada right there. Coco doesn’t look like anyone I’ve seen wandering around Richmond Centre.

  137. kgirl | 16/02/11

im thinkin ,,, wow! this girl on her mind must say im soooo trendy, pretty, fit girl coz the most brutal honest ppl in fashion gave me an award!!!

  138. carly | 16/02/11

    @Runningonempty

Canadian women, on average are not a size zero. According to the Canadian Community Health Survey 2005, the average Canadian woman’s height is approximately 5 feet 3.4 inches. For a woman of this height in Canada, the average weight is 153 pounds (69 kg).

Also, as a Canadian woman I can attest that stores do carry size 3.

Lastly, as a Canadian woman, Coco’s appearance does phase me. By no means am I a medical professional, but this woman appears to be suffering from an eating disorder, and certainly appears to be underweight.

  139. carly | 16/02/11

    - correction to my prior post:

Clothing stores in Canada do carry sizes beyond a size 3.

  140. Lula | 16/02/11

@Runningonempty What are you talking about, this wouldn’t turn heads in Canada? According to StatCan, in 2004 59.2% of Canadians were overweight or obese. In 2008, the proportion in the US was 68.0%, so higher sure, but that’s still more than half of Canada that is overweight or obese. And Le Chateau and Sirens uses Juniors sizing, which is here in the US too. I think store sizes are so random that they’ve just become useless.

  141. she looks like a ghost | 16/02/11

I feel as though I am looking at a ghost.

  142. Emma | 17/02/11

size zero is the average in Canada?!? really…

  143. Vagabond | 17/02/11

    @ runningonempty….

Please. The “Fat American” line is old and cheap considering that this post has abosilutely nothing to do with that tired “insult”. People are disdained by Rocha not only because of her size but because of her ghostly pallor that seems devoid of any coloring and how overdrawn and gaunt her skin looks. All of these factors combined contribute to a girl that looks like she’s not taking care of herself properly. Moreover, Canadians are not an average size 0, so I don’t know where you dug up that crock of sh*t. I live in East Asia, where the average woman is legitimately smaller than your average Westerner. And there are still few size 0s walking around.

  144. greenandorange | 17/02/11

    @runninonempty

Jeeeez you are making some serious nonsense up about Canadians… As a Canadian I apologize for @runninonempty totally false and ridiculous comments!

    @zhnjg
LOL totally agree about the Richmond Mall, right on!!! Too funny!

I don’t care if she’s Canadian, American, English or from outer space! This is a set of unhealthy photos of a promising model. I also don’t care about the thinness of models; however, I do care when a certain model claims to be setting a healthy example for young girls. If she is so against ED, then she should not promote an unhealthy body.

  145. Kyra | 17/02/11

@ ridiculous…. no I don’t think the comments are ridiculous!! And I can assure you, I would choose to be the size I am now – which has more fat than I would like, yes, I’m working hard at the gym, and concentrating on eating better – than to be the size she is. There is more to life than being skinny. I have lovely hair and skin, good muscle tone and my bones don’t jut out. I’m fit and healthy. I think she is a beautiful woman, but for my personal aesthetic she would look better with an extra half a stone of muscle and a few pounds of fat. I could be wrong about that, but the way she has dieted makes her look brittle and older than her years. I like slim, toned and soft. Which is very difficult to achieve, I know, but I honestly, truly do find looking at a woman who has done this to herself uncomfortable – and I really am not jealous, I truly do think she is ruining herself. I wish her every success, and happiness. And if she and lots of other people think this is the look that is beautiful and they are happy with this, fine. For me, Kelly Brook, Salma Hayek, Tyra Banks, Liv Tyler and Beyonce Knowles are the sort of women who I think are making the most of their beauty.

  146. Creepy Doll | 17/02/11

However I googled pictures of her and wow, she used to look stunning. She’s got a pair of the most beautiful eyes I’ve ever seen… huge and emerald green!

  147. elisita | 17/02/11

poor love. she doesn’t look well here at all. she was so beautiful and full of energy a few years ago when she started.

  148. Dee Twiddle | 17/02/11

I’m so happy we don’t have any of these issues with size 0 00 in Russia

  149. sammyb | 17/02/11

she has lost weight and as someone who hangs out in the same circle of her real friends, a lot of us are concerned that her husband is being uber controlling over how she looks. James has stalked her since he first met her and we don’t know how he got her to marry him.
and to comment on the accent, James turns his accent on and off so im sure she got the idea from him.

  150. toot | 17/02/11

@ Runningonempty- “@Greenandorange: She has an accent because she’s CANADIAN!!! as am I, and let me tell you, our accent is highly ditinctive…”

    As is your spelling.

  151. toot | 17/02/11

Sorry Runningonempty, that wasn’t nice of me. Undoubtedly it was an oversight. It’s just hard not to react comments here.

  152. toot | 17/02/11

… hard not to react *to your* comments here. (MY oversight this time. That’s what I get for piping off!)

  153. MsCotton | 17/02/11

Glow you are wrong as I do find Allegra Versace way too thin that it is ridiculous.

  154. Daniella | 17/02/11

Hey, I am also Canadian. Born on the East Coast, living on the West Coast. I do NOT have this “Canadian” accent thing going on. This is the second largest country in the world, and like in the states there are many, many accents. On the East Coast, some of us sound more (southern) British. I think the one that Americans call the “Canadian” one is suburban Toronto or the Ottawa Valley one.
Also, I think the average Canadian dress size is a 9 or 10. Although, here in Vancouver, it is probably an 8 (due to our very large Asian-Canadian population). Again, very large country up here.
Just wanted to clear some stuff up!! :)

  155. Anna | 18/02/11

Thats just sad! She used to be so good looking!

  156. Kristel | 18/02/11

Love the paleness. Hate the skinniness.

  157. emm' | 18/02/11

she scares me in this photos O.o -.-

  158. Jill M | 18/02/11

i have no idea why all of a sudden all these models look like death to me. maybe cuz im not a model anymore!?

  159. b | 19/02/11

@ dumdum…you called it!!! Lara Flynn Boyle + Heidi Fleiss cross. What happened to her?!?!? I’m so sad.

  160. marsha | 19/02/11

Oh no, it looks like she is suffering from a terrible eating disorder. It’s actually too bad they gave her this award. She used to be so much prettier. I wish her health.

  161. Doreen | 19/02/11

She couldn’t possible win the ‘Best Model’ award!! Boy, this sure sends the wrong message out to everyone. She looks like an old skeleton lady! Totally not cool…she looks sick. Get her some help, fast! She’s deteoriating away!

  162. Runningonempty | 19/02/11

My goodness! people really can’t get the message punched into their heads that us Canadian’s are completely different creatures!!! I don’t know what the rest of you people are talking aboot, going on and on aboot how our dear canuck Coco looks too skinny. You obviously don’t know anything aboot Canada, not to mention there’s tons of bogus lies made up on this page from fake Canadians claiming that we have no accent and are an average size ten. Ridiculous!! so let me refresh:

We don’t eat solid food in Canada; we actually live on a steadfast diet of beer, maple syrup and freshly brewed Tim Hortons coffee. That would explain our petite physique. Not to mention our genetic makeup is much different than you robust Americans.

Secondly, our Prime Minister is a giant beaver in a mountie hat that we attend weekly mass to 38 times a week, and he enforces us to stay below a size zero so we can fit into our figure skating uniforms perfectly Eh!. He don’t like them big boned girls!!

Thirdly,Coco would gladly turn the head of any canuck or hoser on the hockey rink to date. You people asre just jealous!!

    Also,

  163. Taschentuch | 20/02/11

This is frightening. She looks like the walking dead. The white clothes and skin do not help either.

  164. Jade | 20/02/11

Wow, runningonempty…were you high when you left that last comment there?

  165. judy | 20/02/11

she loooooks aweful! skinny and dead looking

  166. SupermodelSuzie | 21/02/11

That’s disappointing. I’ll bet she has to drink Ensure to stay alive.

  167. Runningonempty | 21/02/11

@Jade: No, Just extremely Canadian. And maybe a bit too much maple syrup…

You American’s don’t get CANADIAN humour. I bet you’ve never even watched an episode of ”Corner Gas” Eh!!!

  168. Dee | 21/02/11

I agree, this is a very unhealthy message to send. Her face is so incredibly gaunt and not even just in a ‘model thin’ sort of way.

  169. Jade | 21/02/11

Yeah, it’s hard to detect one’s sense of humor through the computer. Well at least when it comes to your first comment that got everyone riled up…Unless they bombard their comment with “LOL” and “JK!” ^_^

  170. zach | 23/02/11

Hey, I’m a kiwi and even I could tell that runningonempty was totally taking the piss.

  171. belle | 25/02/11

    Roswell !!

  172. Endie | 25/02/11

good for her! she looks fantastic and it obviously paid off as she won the award… stop with the hate everyone. I think she looks dramatic and gorgeous.
