Here we go again… yet another celebrity is “coming out” about an eating disorder they had while they were a teen…
Brittany Snow, (from Hairspray and John Tucker Must Die), claims that she once thought dieting was her “best friend” and got down to 85 pounds at age 15.
It all started when she began work on the soap opera Guiding Light at age 12. Brittany noticed that most of the actresses on the show were on diets themselves. So she started a diet herself - the “Eat Right For Your Blood Type” diet. She lost about 10 pounds and immediately started receiving compliments.
Soon it became an obsession of sorts. Brittany couldn’t get enough.
“It kind of progressed into this thing where I needed to always be dieting and losing weight and more weight,” she says in the site’s interview series Half of Us, which addresses mental health issues and ways to get help. “It became my life and I didn’t have any friends and this was definitely my best friend and I held on to it really tight.”
At 15, Snow was stepping onto the scale 10 to 15 times a day and weighed only 85 lbs.
Brittany finally decided to get help after she started cutting herself. She admits it was a cry for attention but learned to deal with things after rehab.
OK… this is clearly a publicity stunt. I mean, who cares? It was over 7 years ago!
So who is next to come out of the “teen ED closet”? Anyone want to take a guess?
And for the record, it’s not that I don’t believe all these celebrities about their previous bouts of teen ED’s. After all, I don’t know any one person who isn’t eating disordered in some way or another. But why do they feel the need to come out about it years later? All it does is fuel young girls into wanting to copy or be like their idols, IMHO.
