Ricki Lake Weight Loss Scans

May 11th, 2007 by Rian | Filed under Celebrity Weight Loss, Miscellaneous Celebrities, Tabloid Magazines.

As promised, I found a copy of the latest US Magazine with the Ricki Lake weight loss story in it and scanned it in for you all.

It was actually a very interesting story and a solid 7 pages, which included a typical four days on Ricki’s diet plan. Ricki claims to have started at 250 pounds and a size 24. Now, she weighs 123 pounds and is a size 2/4.

Now, I have nothing but admiration for the woman - losing that much weight is an amazing accomplishment. And she looks fabulous! But I can’t help but question her claim of weighing 123. I know the camera adds some weight and all, but she really does not look like she weighs 123 at all. 140, perhaps. She has muscular legs some meat on her upper arms.

Anyway, click here to read the full seven pages of the article.

lol her torso looks kinda disproportionate in that mag pic.
Kina like her upper ribs are way the hell out..lol
or mebbe shes just sucking it in real hard

  2. Slurm | 11/05/07

She’s 5′4″, so I have a hard time believing that she is 123, like you said, she looks more around 140. I know someone who lost 120 lbs over the course of a year through diet and excercise, so I know it’s not impossible. I just wish celebs would be honest about their weight, if they’re going to talk about it at all.

  3. Tucker | 11/05/07

ahhhh, so close to being first, now my day is ruined

  4. bitbit | 11/05/07

She’s supposed to be a size 2/4?? She doesn’t look like that at all. She’s thicker than me and I’m a size 6/8…

  5. daria | 11/05/07

She’s 5′4″ w/ small-medium bone structure. She’s probably 123 and a size 2/4. I sincerely want to see pictures of you people at her age in a bathing suit on the cover of a national magazine after losing the equivalent of a whole person. She is never going to look like an 18 yr old model with perfectly taut skin. Look at Star Jones. She’s 5′5″ and 140 and she is essentially Nicole Richie but with hanging skin.

My mom is 5′4″, 144 and a size 6. People have varying body types. She’s definitely at the lower end of what she should ever be judging from her face.

  6. Allison | 11/05/07

Her diet seems…expensive. And hard to maintain.

  7. Tres Chic | 11/05/07

    GO RICKI,GO RICKI,GO RICKI!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and as far as her not looking 125lbs,
MEMO 2 THE PEOPLE ON THIS BOARD:
    EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

one person could be 5ft 4 and 135lbs and look fat and another person could be 5ft 4,135lbs and look SLIM!!!!!!!!!!

    EVERYBODY IS DIFFERENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Kalisto | 11/05/07

Good for her! She looks fabulous.
But I too have hard time to believe that she weighs 123 pounds… I don’t know anything about sizes (I’m not from US) but 123 pounds… she doesn’t look it. I am 140 lbs and 5′5 and I look about the same size (but I’m trying to lose :) )
Nevertheless she looks very-very good and fit. And happy.

  9. elle | 11/05/07

Is 1200 - 1400 cal a day healthy? Does anyone know how low we are allowed to go and still be healthy on a diet?

  10. Kate | 11/05/07

I am confused about the American sizing system. I’m 5′6 and 121lbs and always assumed I would be an American size 6 and thought it was crazy that a size 0 even existed (because the equivalent dosen’t exist where I live). just how small is a 0?

  11. hi | 11/05/07

^You could probably fit into a size 0 depending on how big your frame is and how much body fat you have. I fit into a 0 easily and I’m 5′4″ and 115 lbs (but my body fat % is pretty low b/c I work out a lot.) Size 0 is generally something like 32-24-34 according to a store’s size charts, though my waist and hips are 25 and 35 inches if I measure myself. I think stores just make their clothes larger so more people can fit into smaller sizes.

Anyway, I was defending Ricki in the other thread before I read the article, but she DOES look larger than 123 lbs. to me. Maybe she has a ton of body fat and very little muscle. She looks like she squeezed her body into that size 2-4 Herve Leger dress, though!

  12. charl | 11/05/07

About the corectness of her weight number.. Isn t she like REALLY short though??

  13. emma | 11/05/07

what is up with that chin. she looks better with more meat on her bones. ugh not liking this look.

  14. emma | 11/05/07

    a uk size 8 is a us size 4
    so a uk 6 is a us 2
    a uk 4 is a us 0
    and a uk 2 which i don’t think exists is a us 00

  15. shady | 11/05/07

123 sounds right people forget that’s she’s REALLY short

  16. eden | 11/05/07

while i’ll commend her for losing the weight…at this rate, chances are she’ll gain alot back, or struggle for a very longtime with maintenance. this is because she clearly knows NOTHING about nutrition. 1,200-1400 is fine for losing weight but not for maintenance, and NOT when you’re going on 2 hr hikes where its possible to burn 1000 plus alone for someone her “claimed” size. right now she’s semi-starving herself nutritionally. she’ll find out the hard way.

and about her being 123…no, rocki, no ricki, NO. i don’t buy it. i’m 5′4. 127, and look a whole lot smaller than her. and i dont significant lean muscle either. her legs and arms are just entirely too stocky to be the weight she claims. when she weighed herself that morning of the shoot i bet she had been barely eating for the past few days in an attempt to look her smallest, so maybe the scale said 123, but that was probably just due to lost water weight. sure i could not eat for 5 days and “drop” 10 pds on the scale, but it’d be 10 pds of water and gycogen stores, which basically translates to nothing. not real weight….she is most likely 132. and if she were so acceptant of her new weight. why does she admit to being obsessed with the scales fluctuating numbers?

  17. Deedee | 11/05/07

    I agree with
“GO RICKY GO RICKY” hell yea dude she looks good, i hope she keeps it up and man all i can say is u gor girl, wish i had the drive…..but i dont… and she looks tiny sum women on this site need, um how do i say it counseling, an lots of it jealous hoes, have a great day

  18. Swanhilda | 11/05/07

About US clothing sizes–they have clearly changed over the years. Back in the mid-1980’s when I
was at 117 pounds, I was a solid size 6. Now, at around 130 pounds, I’m a size 4, and even sometimes a 2! Manufacturers know how size-obsessed we are and are making clothing larger so we can claim we wear a smaller size. I can’t wait, in a few years I’ll be 10 pounds heavier and wear a size 0.

And Eden, I totally I agree with you.

  19. corpuskristen | 11/05/07

Umm…..I agree that she is not the size she states. The thing is she mentioned she wore a size 27 jean. I wear a size 27 jean and weigh the same as Ricki BUT I am 5′9″. The whole sizing system here is messed up and I am so frustrated that people who are larger than me can find clothes to validate their idea of skinniness. Ricki needs to start lifting weights and lose about 5 more pounds of fat before she starts bragging. I know it is mean but maybe I am just mean today. lol

  20. Samantha | 11/05/07

I really think they need to do something about the whole clothes sizes issue. Here in the UK I can range from a 6 to a 10 depending on what shop I’m in. What is up with that!! and it sounds like it’s the same with you guys in the US.

I don’t think we can judge what clothes size she looks or weight she looks from a picture. She probably looks a lot more petite in person that in a big body shot on the cover of a magazine. Although I have to agree, she does look like shes sucking in a LOT in that photo

  21. TimTams | 11/05/07

My mother is 50, small/medium framed, 5′4″ and weighs 119 lbs. In comparison Ricki appears to be a good 20 lbs heavier. Either she has a hugely high body fat percentage, or the 123 lbs claim is a bit of an exaggeration to add to the sensationalism of her being “half” the size she used to be. Not that I’m saying the change isn’t huge and I think she looks infinitely better. It requires a lot of willpower and determination to lose that sort of weight. I am just doubting the validity of some of the claims. Perhaps she is much shorter than 5′4″? If she’s closer to 5′0″ then 123 lbs would sound about right for her build and current size.

  22. katie | 11/05/07

Im 5′6 and weigh 125 pounds and in jeans im a size 28/ 27 so theres no way shes a size 26

  23. Brenda G | 11/05/07

    samantha
there are shops that you know will either make the clothes very small (mainly designers) and i have never understood why
and the high street have some shops you just know make their clothes too big matalan, new look, primark, dorothy perkins, monson etc but there are those that are true to sizes i.e. zara, mango and topshop
though i have been told that zara and mango in spain and italy have smaller sizes because their women are just smaller than us brits who are meant to be the “fatties” of europe (which i think is total bull) you actually enter some boutiques that import from spain or italy fashions primarily (i’m a UK10 )and i get told they have very little in my size

  24. emmie | 11/05/07

Oh my lord people stop worrying about whether she is exactly the weight she says she is down to the to ounce or crying that you are that size and so much thinner than her. . . people’s egos are so fragile. It cracks me up.

And yes everyone by now also knows that stores vanity size. Size means nothing. I can wear a 2 at the good ole Gap. But when buying Chloe or Marni I “graduate” to the equivalent of atleast a sz 6 if not bigger. So get over your size obsessions. people should just buy clothes that fit them!

  25. emmie | 11/05/07

Samantha — just read your comment and yes, sizes majorly range here. I joke that I can wear a size 2 to a 10. I can wear a 26 in James jeans but have to swallow my pride and buy a 29 in Acne or Cheap Mondays.

corpuskristen- “ricki needs to start lifting weights and lose about 5 more pounds of fat before she starts bragging” The woman lost half of her body weight! Give me a freaking break and get over yourself.

  26. me | 11/05/07

I am also very confuesed. I live in denmark, and here there is size 34, 36, 38, 40 and 42

    34-36 is xs-small-small
    38-40 is medium
    42 is large

I wear a danish size 34-36, and it is the smallest you can get! but in other countries they have really small sizes like in the USA. I get so frustrated, because there is some woman who are bigger than me in the US, and wears a freakin size 0!! here in then denmark you can barely fit into to a size 36, but in US a FAT women can just fine get in to a size 0. OMG! I really think people make sizes bigger, so people think they are petite when they look that they can fit a size 2 or 0. then their buyers gets happy, and wants to buy the clothes!

  27. Christina | 11/05/07

i’m depressed….i weigh 115 and an 5′2″ and she only weights 8 more pounds than I do and she has 2 inches on me. maybe we’re all delluded and look like her in our bathing suit. She looks pretty big….my guess is she weights 135 ish….or maybe the camera does pack on 15 pounds. But my jeans are 26 and i can barely fit into them at this weight. I have to be 110 to be able to fit into them and 107 if I want to fit into them comfortably. So how can she at 123 fit into a 26? I commend her for losing the weight but i think she still looks pretty big.

  28. tim jones | 11/05/07

She looked really hot at 160 and above and she is beautiful now. She seems, for me at least, to look great at really any weight. Good for her.

  29. emmie | 11/05/07

me - why does it frustrate you? just curious. , ,

and I’ve probably written this before but concerning the whole size 0 thing — I work in fashion as a manager/buyer for a high end boutique. Most high end American designers do not make sz 0, that is left for mall brand chain stores who have vanity sized so much that they keep needing to make smaller sizes. Most designers I write orders from make their clothes in sz 2 through 10.

    2-4 is xs/s
    6-8 is m
    10 is L

  30. *dizzy | 11/05/07

thts so good tht she lost all tth weight!! tht is amazing
but ermmmm…..i swear she doesnt look like a size 2/4?? or is tht just me :S

  31. adriana | 11/05/07

Since when is your pants size a badge of honor? They’re just clothes.

  32. Persephone | 11/05/07

I agree with Swanhilda about the sizes. They have changed over the years.

Personally, I don’t think Riki is wearing a size 4 but maybe in some stores she is.

  33. sabine | 11/05/07

[shrug] the dress size thing is always bunk…
and we all know stores pull the whole “smaller sizes for larger people” thing constantly
It CAN be frustrating [esp when i go pants shopping..i hate that…6 in one store, 4 in the next..]
But whatevs. If people aren’t smart enough to actually weightthemselves, find out their frame size[which is hellu easy] and then eat healthy so as not to become a glutton, then whatevs. They can parade around in their size 2 outfits thinking they look great. it’s not like it really matters.
    ON RICKI:
no man she does look good. She definitely needs to find a better eating plan for sure because she is pretty much starving herself skinny but she still looks fantastic for how she DID look.

  34. Michelle | 11/05/07

I agree with you eden…she is starving herself..I took a nutrition class a few semesters ago and was told that 1200 calories Is what non active woman should consume at the least. If she Is hiking for 2 hours she should be consuming more then 1200 calories. She probably will gain It back because she’s starving herself.

  35. ashley | 11/05/07

    size 2/4?? hahhaaha OKAY RICKI

  36. Lauren | 11/05/07

Hey now, I think she looks quite excellent. Especially if you compare her to what she was.

And I think 123-124-ish sounds about right. For one thing I’ve seen this magazine in real life and she doesn’t look NEARLY as airbrushed as most of the covers I’ve seen. We tend to forget that our perceptions of how much people weigh have changed a bit because there’s always someone behind the scenes just touching it all up a little bit.

Plus, she can very well be a size 2/4, especially with our rapidly changing dress sizes. I am 138 lb. and 5′5, which would make you presume I’m about a size 8/10…well I have a 26 inch waist, making me a size 2. Weight doesn’t matter when it comes to dress size. Just kick that idea out of your mind. It’s all about body composition.

  37. kelly | 11/05/07

Shes real short i think…cause she dont look no 123

  38. Claire Z. | 11/05/07

1200-1400 is not at all necessarily starving yourself. that’s what I eat a day you’d never look at me and say I was starving myself. everybody’s resting metabolisms are different. Some women have to eat as little as 1000 calories a day not to gain weight. Also if Riki’s not going to the gym so much, it probably is about right.

  39. shosh | 11/05/07

Hey you guys, stop being so negative. With a nutritionist-based food program that has portion control, Riki will definately maintain her weight loss, her food program is probably very healthy and she has plenty of money to afford it. She looks GREAT!
    Nice legs!!

  40. carmen | 11/05/07

hmmmm - I’m just tired of fat celebs going on about how happy they are in their own skin and looking womanly, feminine yada yada yada then before you can say jenny craig drop a ton of weight - appear on the cover of some tabloid rag - in ugly swim-wear and photo-shopped to within an inch of their lives.

Sad fact of making it in hollywood, showbiz, media - thin is in - you can never be too thin.

Ricki’s weight loss really shows in her face, women of a certain age i.e over 35- that they don’t substitute a fat arse,back-fat and pooches for that don’t-look -at-my-haggard-old-face-concentrate-on-my -size-two-arse.

  41. Michelle | 11/05/07

take a nutrition class then you will learn that 1000 calories a day is starving yourself Claire. She admitted to hiking 2 hours and with that you need more calories then 1200 a day!

  42. Bobo | 11/05/07

    She looks incredible!

  43. hotnerdgrrl | 11/05/07

This is a wonderful story, and all the negative people out there who are making cruel remarks about Ricki should be ashamed of themselves.

Ricki Lake accomplished a remarkable feat by losing so much weight without surgery or fasting and is an inspiration. She wasn’t just overweight, she was obese. Obesity is a serious problem for many people and her story will give them hope; it will be the light at the end of a tunnel of hopelessness.

Can you even conceive the monumental task of having to lose over a hundred pounds? My G*d, you lose 20lbs over a few months and you still have 80,90 more to go. No wonder some people feel despair and gain their weight back.

I lost 40lbs and it took freaking 6 months of aerobic dance/weight training/pilates every day.

Your metabolisms will slow down and then you’ll see. No one ever thinks it will happen to them, but it always does. Wait until a hair sprouts out of your chin….mwaahaha!!!!

  44. Claire Z. | 11/05/07

actually, michelle, I regularly meet with a registered dietitian and I work for the Journal of the American Dietetic Association. I admit that it’s a low count but I maintain that for some women it’s a decent amount. :)

  45. hotnerdgrrl | 11/05/07

Claire Z. is right and Michelle is wrong. :D

  46. hotnerdgrrl | 11/05/07

Whoops…started writing that last one before I read Claire’s last post…I must be psychic, or smart like Claire. :D

  47. may | 11/05/07

anyone who allows themselves to get that fat should be ashamed, not people who make negative comments because she still looks gross.

  48. Claire Z. | 11/05/07

heh. I’m not trying to be strident or anything but my own personal weight loss and experience talking with nutritionists has taught me that nothing is right or wrong across the boards. I can tell you sometime about the time my eating-disorder therapist advised me to quit going to the gym for a while.

  49. Michelle | 11/05/07

1000 calories a day Is Very Very low. I will admit when I am wrong and sense you work for the journal of the american dietetic association then you do know more then me. :) My Nutritionist Is the one who gave me that Information so I blame her. LOL Thanks hotnerdgrrl but actually my nutritionist Is wrong. LOL ;)

  50. hotnerdgrrl | 11/05/07

Well, as a student of Philosophy, I don’t think anything is right or wrong across the boards. However, I tend to side with empirical evidence and logic for the sake of expediency.

I had an eating disorder…I actually had all of them (except for Pica, unless chewing a pencil counts).

My compulsive exercise phase (3-4 hours per day/7days a week) made me feel really damn superior before I figured out it was compulsive. :(

  51. Claire Z. | 11/05/07

i was a binger myself. that was why i started seeing the experts.

  52. mona | 11/05/07

She looks great - is is soooo freaking hard to lose that much weight!
    And btw, when I’m at my SKINNIEST - 135 pounds - I still have to wear a — size 12 !!! It’s because I’m 5 ‘8 have long legs and wide hips.

  53. Gigi | 11/05/07

I’m 5′4 and when I weigh 123 pounds with muscle, I look a lot smaller than she is. She has to be at least a size 8 and 130+ pounds.

  54. violet | 11/05/07

Remember people look heavier in photographs! And some photograph heavier than others for some reason. Ricki probably looks like 123 pounds irl.

I recently worked on a local fashion shoot and I was shocked at how much bigger some of the models looked though the camera. And it was different for every girl - quite shocking really.

  55. Rigzy | 11/05/07

    I’m 5′4 and 122, I really hope I don’t look like her!

  56. Meredith | 11/05/07

Christina don’t feel bad about yourself. You might have a different body shape than her. She looks like she has a lot of weight in her hips and thighs like me. I’m 4′11 and 122 and I have a 27 inch waist but 38 inch hips.

  57. angie | 11/05/07

thanks for posting the article!! i think she looks great, who really cares if it’s exactly 123 pounds or whatever, she lost a ton of weight and looks happy and confident

  58. Fliss | 11/05/07

I agree with the frustrating sizes. I went into a shop and picked up an Australian 10 in 3 different clothing items and 1 fit (good), 1 was too small (made me feel fat and the other was huge (pissed me off as I had to find a smaller one). I wish that they would standardise clothing.

By the way does anyone know where you take a hip measurement from? Is around the hipbone or the biggest part of you?

  59. hotnerdgrrl | 11/05/07

Hips are measured across the widest part (unfortunately).

  60. LaLa | 12/05/07

I’m confused; I weigh more than her and wear a size 2-4. But I’m shorter than her and she looks bigger than me. But I was watching Celebrity Fit Club and Maureen McCormick weighed two punds less than me but looked considerably bigger. Hey SkinnyGirl, why is this?

  61. Fliss | 12/05/07

You prob have a higher muscle mass and/or higher bone density. Where you carry the weight also affects how slim you look.

  62. Emily | 12/05/07

Um, my mom is 5′3″ and around 125. Her proportions are not that different, but she doesn’t work out.

  63. Julie | 13/05/07

    Size 4/6? Oh pleeeeease!

  64. Scarlet | 13/05/07

the sizing just isnt consistant anywhere!

    Here in the uk i’m a size 6/8 (top/bottom)

when i was living in the US i was 0/2 sometimes 4…i’m not skinny either, only 5″4

i wouldnt have said Ricki was a size 2/4 but who knows, she looks absolutely brilliant! healthy diet too

  65. lagirl | 13/05/07

I am laughing my ass off at the comments right now!!! When I got the magazine I looked at my husband and had a total “girl moment” and asked him if I looked like Ricki Lake! I am 5′4 117 and work out almost everyday. I am glad I wasn’t the only one that freaked out! I can’t wait to tell him!

  66. Rosi | 14/05/07

I saw the magazine, and even in the inside pics, her waist size looks thick, not defined, and definitely not a size 2/4. That would mean she has a 23-24 inch waist, and it definitely looks thicker than that.
I’m 5′4 and weigh 125, and have a more defined waist, about 26 inch and wear a size 5/6. Her arms also look thicker.
I also noticed she wears loose shirts/dresses that hide her mid section. Even the bathing suit in the cover looks like a little dress, to hide fat. If she were a size 2, she can easily wear a bikin and not have to wear that.

  67. lex | 15/05/07

I’m completely amazed at the measurements someone gave for size 0 in the states. That’s roughly an 8 (US 4) in the UK…

And Topshop sizes always come up big on me. H&M is smaller, usually.

I know people Rikki’s size and height who weigh about the same. You’re forgetting she’s going to have a heck of a lot of loose skin…

  68. hotnerdgrrl | 15/05/07

First, photographs make you look wider….about 10lbs wider. Second, women have unique body types. At 5′8 and 138lbs,my waist is 23inches. When I was 165lbs, my waist was 26inches. I just have a smaller waist no matter what my weight.

I’m a pear, so my ass/thighs get bigger/smaller while my upper body doesn’t really change significantly.

My Mom’s an apple, and her hips are like my waist. They’ve never been more than 42inches no matter what her weight.

Third, when a person loses a large amount of weight they usually have loose skin. This is probably why Ricki chose a one-piece, since she is an apple and most of her stretched-out bits are around her tummy.

  69. dandy | 17/05/07

can i just say, unlike you guys, ricki doesnt seem obsessed with her weight. if u look at the article she admits that she likes herself in some of the pics even when she was a little heavy. so why would she bother lying about it??

she looks healthy and gorgeous (always has been, but even more so now) and she has nothing to hide. shes fairly short and petite which is why she doesnt take big sizes.

even if she isnt the skinniest celeb out there shes radiant and happy and being able to look back to times in her life even when she wasnt that thin and feel ok about herself, to me, makes her one of the best role models.

  70. Jazzy | 17/05/07

Wow, I am so extremely proud of her. I mean it amazes me when you have a situation like RIcki’s where her weight has been a struggle for her for so many year can still have the knowledge to change. When she was overweight, all you would hear is “she is fat” “she needs to loose weight” and now that she have chosen to be healthier you hear”oh she is starving herseld” “she looks bad” I don’t think she did i naturally and so on. Ricki did not loose weight because she gave a shit what we think, she did it because she wanted to be healthier and happier for herself. That is what’s wrong with society today, we want to choose how much someone should weight in order to consider themselves beautiful, what complexion their skin should be and what texture their hair should be. More or less, it is not society’s right to approve or disapprove with anything in anyone’s like. If something makes you unhappy, change it. It somthing brings you pain, resolve it. If like decides what you should be say FUCK YOU…

All you people need to STOP criticizing her for whatever size she may or may not be. She’s obviously worked hard on herself and good for her! If you’ve never been heavy all your life or at some point in your life, you do NOT know what a thrill it is to even wear sleevelss shirts or swimsuits or jeans. I have been all over the place with my weight and when I was much heavier it sucked and I felt bad. I give kudos to Ricki for looking good. She deserves praise, not all your bullshit comparisons!!

Some of you people are insane. The whole point is that she lost an amazing amount of weight, whether it was 127 or 110 pounds. Geez, losing 50 pounds should be praised. I think she did an awesome job, and I hope this can motivate other people to try to become a little thinner. All of the other celebrities just make most of us feel like shit, but this story could be an inspiration. Especially since now days all we ever hear about with most celebrities are how skinny they are and all that crap. It’s never that an actual large person lost so much weight that she is now deemed thin. Congrats to Ricki Lake. I hope she keeps up with it.

    corpuskristen…is retarded.

is being skinny so damn important, that what SOMEONE ELSE says they weight or wear makes you feel bad about your own skinny ass?

Eat a sandwich and shut up!

Is that mean enough for you?

I think it is great that Ms. Lake loss her weight in a healthy way and feels good about herself. People who say she does not look what she says she weighs are insane.

People are different and no matter what size she is, love her for her accomplishments. If one can’t say anything good, then don’t say anything at all.

Leave your own insecurities in your bathroom mirror.
